It appears to me that the shop has done everything it can to resolve this. You my friend, are acting like you have been down the pub for most of the day.

Take a deep breath. Calm down. Work out what you have to do to make all this go away. Posting your rants on the internet is not making things any better. Stuff like this happens all the time in life.

Unfortunately a google search for J C Cycles brings up this thread.

So, anyone out there got anything positive to say about J C Cook to offset the rants?

I had this problem when I tried tubeless. An uplift day sorted them out. Get em out for a full on sloshing session.

Remember the stem cap is not load bearing – it should be used to take the slack out (i.e. clamp the fork in snug) before using the stem bolts to tighten up for real. The stem should be taking the load. If your stem cap touches the steerer, then you wont be able to take the slack out properly.

I suspect the hint was made while he was asleep. Or drunk. Or watching Top Gear. Remember, clarity, eye contact, and simple words.

Usually one hint is enough – secret present buying then takes place and you get a nice surprise. However, keep going on about it and he soon decides its not worth the effort and spends the money on a new bike instead.

My lbs sourced a truvativ bach guard for about £8, and a 36T deore chainring for about £15. Combined with a medium cage rear mech and shorter chain the chain never skips off anymore. I find I drop the chain all the time with a triple.

Hmmm. Appears to be an orderly queue for those fox forks on bike radar. I guess its something to do with the price.
Sorry, but I have bought and sold a couple of things here with no problems but always with someone with posting history on the normal forums. I stay away from first posters and people who only have activity on the classifieds.

Havent they just release a 2-step coil version, with 2 coils. You compress and lock one out thus reducing travel? That would imply the existing, single coils cant do 2-step?

Also, I thought you got 2-step *or* u-turn, not both? Doesnt make sense to have both.

The levers should look the same right side up and upside down (if that makes sense). So you should be able to swap left to right and right to left no problems. Even if there was a problem swapping hoses over is an easy job for a bike shop. In summary, you should not have a problem. Go for it. No problem.

There was a thread here a week or so ago about making a compressor out of a 2L coke bottle, two old presta valves, lots of duct tape and some 5mm tubing. Pump bottle up to 40psi, then release pressure into the tyre. Genius bodge and it works!

…actually, you might want to look for a place in Swindon old town. Its not your typical housing estate.

Wroughton – from a bike perspective you have the ridgeway, the croft trail and Swindons finest descent, ladder lane, on your doorstep. And its all downhill to the station. Not the prettiest village but it might be worth a look. Its also a twenty minute walk to Swindon old town which is the only area in Swindon to maintain some kind of character (with the added bonus of Red Planet Bikes).

I have been with them for about 8 years with no issues. When sky started doing cheaper deals I called them and the price magically came down. Cant remember the last time we had an outage.

Buy a chain guide if your chain keeps falling off. Buy a bash guard if you keep breaking chainring teeth. I get the impression you havent tried to ride a downhill course yet – I wouldn’t go spending money on something you might find you don’t like.

Don’t be seduced by the temptations of upgrades… not yet anyway.

Archos 70 @ £229 is the only one to catch my eye so far. Advent Vega has good specs but is £250 and not readily available. Its also a 10″ screen and weights quite a bit.

To be honest, if its just surfing whats wrong with a cheap netbook type thing?

Mine understand that if the tooth fairy hasnt left money, then they need to shout on dad to look for it. The number of times that damn tooth fairy put the coin *at the wrong end of the bed* is just shocking.

Reminds me of a bloke at work who found out that his mate got 50p a tooth whereas he got 20p. His mates mother eventually worked out that children do not have 40 teeth.

Flared drops like the midge bar. Set up right and you spend most of the time in the drops.

    metal_leg

I think the only one designed for off road drops is the gryphon. You need to get enough height on the bars to allow you to be in the hooks all the time. Shallow flared drops are more to do with off road comfort than aerodynamics. Remember you need to place the levers much further round the bars than you would on a normal drop bar and as a result the height difference between riding on the hoods and the drops is very little.

You might find even a smaller lbs is able to help with the paperwork. (e.g. Red Planet in Swindon) I get the impression its not all that difficult.

Managed schemes will skim at least 10% from the bike shop.

I have a drop bar road rat – I like it but tyre clearance only goes up to 1.75 (and thats very tight).

Nothing more than replacing an o-ring on the compression damper. I still think your oil level has dropped because of the upside down storage and oil has escaped out the top, not into the lowers.

As with most things, this job is easy if you have the right tools. In this case a 24mm socket and some circlip pliers.

    metal_leg

If you mean the o-rings then I hear halfords sell a bag full for a couple of quid. Sorry, I dont know what size you need as I havent had to change mine. If you do have lots of oil leaking into the lowers, then it will be the seal at the top of the rebound damper not the moco unit.

Try an oil topup first – the seals are probably fine and its the upside down storage causing the oil loss. I only had to top up with 5ml to get mine working again.

Its actually really easy to take it apart and put back together again.
Easier guide than the rock shox manual

24mm socket, 5mm hex key, and circlip pliers! This was the first time I did a fork too.

I stripped mine down and did the service as the lockout was not working. Its still wasnt working after the service and I realised I had not put enough oil in the motion control unit.

I just sorted the same problem on a set of RS Revs. Oil in the motion control unit had dropped into the lowers. Hardest part of the fix was getting the fekin circlip off and on again. Must buy proper circlip pliers.

Well, I ordered the seal kit from bikegoo anyway. I have to admit I was tempted just to leave it as is. £13 FOR A BIT OF FOAM… 🙂

My local club do an "easy" 35 miles on a Saturday morning at approx 16mph. More experienced group leaves from a different point but everyone meets at a cafe. Sunday sees a group do a short 50 mile ride with an option to break off for about 80 miles. 18mph average. No one gets left behind.

Average speed in a pack is faster than on your own so I think you will be fine. If the club is any good then they will look after you.

OK – so I am assuming a standard oil and dust seal kit will work. Funny this doesnt appear in the service guides.

    metal_leg

Hmmm, so why do all the seal kits include an oil seal?

Looks like bikegoo do what I am after but I have never heard of them before…

No luck from the lbs so far. Local tip seem to have a portacabin set up for the sole purpose of ebaying bikes.
