Grumm, that’s interesting but makes no sense to me… I would have thought a right wing party would have been happy with privatisation?

Guess I need to learn more about politics.

Well, I do dream of the day that we get rid of the Royals, or at the very least change the relationship we have with them to a less fawning, more European style relationship.

Euro Royals are so much classier than ours.

I winder if we could borrow Queen Raniah of Jordan?

That was kinda what I was thinking… hmm 🙂

I recognise this will sound like strange/fanciful advice, but from experience I have found it to be hugely beneficial.

Get yourself into Bikram Yoga – the one done in the hot room, and do it at least five times per week. As a result of the yoga, you will naturally feel inclined to eat a better diet and start making all sorts of positive changes.

It worked for me and other people around me. Strangely powerful stuff.

I recognise I sound like a wacky hippy, but what if it works?

Hmm, everything does point to a mk 3 Mondeo. Will need to hunt down the back of the sofa for more loose change…

Happy to look at an older Mondeo for sure.

Is bangernomics a false economy, or do people on here make it work for themselves?

In honesty I am unlikely to get my hands dirty under the hood…

Not fussed about quirky. I thought it might be good value…

I’m looking at Mondeos as well, but will happily consider anything really.

I need space and for it to be cheap to buy and run.

I just thought something like a V40 might be a good bet – particularly at auction?

I dunno. Just trying to figure bangernomics out 🙂

Yep, one of the pre 2003 ones as I’m working on Bangernomics.

I was wondering if they are typically bomb proof tough Volvos.

Dull is okay. Hopefully dull means cheap to insure?

Nice one, thanks guys. I’ll go and check a few out.

It strikes me that a lot of private people who are selling their cars are being optimistic with what they are worth – or maybe it’s just me looking for an unrealistic bargain. It almost looks like dealers are cheaper at the moment because of the way the market is suffering.

By way of example, I saw an ad somewhere (perhaps eBay) for a 10/11 year old Passat, diesel estate with 120k plus miles for £2.5k. It wasn’t a top of the range model, so that seems a bit high to me?

Brighton is great, but there are small caveats.

There is very little work in Brighton, as it all tends to be in London. What work there is, even if it’s white collar work, is very poorly paid, and as others have said, prices are not much different from London.

I also found Brighton to take itself just a little bit too seriously – it is a great place, and as a result it has started to believe its own hype. I found much better customer service in London, as opposed to Brighton – I thought the situation would be reversed.

But overall, far worse places in the world that you could be.

This thread is pointless without pictures.

Didn’t see her on @wossy so prepared to take those views on board.

Still think she might be fun to spend an evening with, so to speak…

Mate, are you sure actually managed to buy them? Your inability to operate the keyboard properly in your posts leads to room for doubt.

By brought, does one assume you mean bought? And you got it wrong twice!

And “they’re shop”. They are shop. Hmm. Oh, you mean their?

    Sorry – just feeling arsey.

Coasting – let me tell you there is most definitely a winter in Australia. So much of a winter that we go ski-ing.

Agree that it’s a great place, but if you are from the UK and you do winter in somewhere like Sydney – you’re going to whinge and suffer. There is relatively little daylight and the houses don’t have heating so mornings can be very hard on the old getting out of bed front.

Wouldn’t even want to contemplate the cold in Tassie 🙂

As another Aussie, I’d never discourage anyone from going Down Under. It is a great place for sure.

But be wary of rose tinted specs, or of making comparisons with the UK. The UK is the UK, and Australia is Australia.

The bottom line is be clear about why you want to go there – running away is not a good enough or positive enough reason. And remember, same shit, different place.

Happily I didn’t grow up in Bellshill. Just happened to make my grand entrance there. I do hope the Weege has changed as much people say then 🙂 Otherwise the “furren” wife’ll nae be haippy, ken likesay?

I’m not sure how preconceived the notions are. I was born in Bellshill, and have lived in Glasgow itself for a few years. I’m lucky, I’ve been elsewhere, seen some of the world, realised Glasgow’s place in it. I certainly don’t call myself a Weegie as I mostly grew up in the east. I’m neutral about going back – not necessarily my choice, but circumstances are what they are.

Perhaps my notions are just out of date.

I do remember meeting a hard core Glaswegian woman, who epitomised a certain view of the city. She had been to uni, and had lived in Hong Kong for a few years, working as a PA to a Fortune 500 type CEO. She moved back to Glasgow to have weans. All fair enough. She’s never been to Edinburgh, had no interest in going as she didn’t see what it could possibly offer her. Just weird, if you ask me.

I think we are all agreed then – we just need to hope the classes are nothing more than an esoteric way to keep fit.

Gary_M I hope not. I did go to court many, many years ago in Glasgow to give evidence against a scrote who kicked seven bells out of a gay fella in the Merchant City. Having been happily away from the city for many years I probably have an overly dark view of the place – but jeez, it would be nice to dish it properly to a ned in the right/wrong circumstances.

    Lol @ Duckman.

I very, very much hope I never ever need to defend myself in the street, but as they are skills I totally lack at the moment I think it could be a good idea to get a few.

I just a need a new way to get fit and a new challenge – and this seems like a good way of doing that. I like the idea of being a “machine within a few months”.

I guess it does come down to trying a few different things in Glasgow and seeing what works.

I do like the idea of the internal stuff – anything that might help me learn to concentrate better has got to be a good thing 🙂

Focus is sadly lacking in my house 🙁

This is all good stuff. Sounds like any of the disciplines could have a really good fitness pay-off 🙂 Happy days.

Hey Richc, that sounds interesting – please excuse the ignorance, but what is “internal martial arts”. Instinctively it sounds good, but I am a total newbie.

GG – are you in Glasgow? Do you know of anywhere decent that offers MMA? It does sound like what I’m ideally after.

GnarGnar – thank you. That’s exactly the kind of guidance I was looking for.

Didn’t mean to come across as a snob – I just have a clear idea of what I am seeking, and it really doesn’t look like it’s on offer in Glasgow. And I think that’s a shame.

Well, coming to Glasgow from Australia, via London and Brighton, I can tel you in relative terms that yoga is not really available in Glasgow.

Where are the 6am classes every day of the week? It’s not possible to do a consistent daily practise i.e. same studio, same time, same style every day.

    🙁

I have no interest in going to a draughty church hall to take lessons from a middle aged woman called Maureen, who is nice, but doesn’t really get it.

Or perhaps I’m being unfair? You’re the locals, you tell me, please.

And I didn’t say I would get jumped in the Weege, although I perhaps sarcastically hinted at it. Tho it now seems I’ve been verbally jumped, and I thought the Glaswegians were supposed to have a sense of humour! 🙂

Chhers everyone – hopefully won’t be there for too long. It’s just a case of putting our heads down, doing the work that takes us there and riding the bike as much as possible. Will certainly be great to hook up with locals for rides 🙂

Unfortunately the Brigton end 🙁 But not Brigton itself, I hasten to add.
