Brilliant! Thanks Jekkyl. New was only reference to rebuilding of the currrent i’m afraid. Although always seem to find new off piste stuff when i’m there. Recently moved from Cumbria to Bedfordshire and Cannock is a godsend. Thanks again
Cheers Prawny
mekkenollyFree MemberDoing the reverse to my horror:-( Moved to Cumbria a few years ago and have had an amazing time. Half an hour from some of the best riding in the country. Unfortunately, life has pretty much dictated that we need to move back to the south east to be closer to family etc.
The selfish in me is heartbroken(kayaking, biking, climbing etc are all lifelong hobbies.)But am grateful for the time we’ve had here. Home down saarf is approx. 8 miles away from Chicksands/Woburn, which are great but feel very much like the booby prize at the mo.mekkenollyFree MemberThanks, but being a bit of a tart and want one that fits onto the direct fr. mech hanger.
mekkenollyFree Memberblanket bombing and western military’s acceptance of collateral damage is equally hard to justify.
“We haven’t seen blanket bombing since Vietnam. In fact the use of targeted weaponry has meant armies/terrorists now chose to fight and shelter in civilian areas. There is far less collateral damage and civilian casualties today than there was for example in WW2, 15,000 French civilians died as a result of misguided Allied bombing as part of the Normandy landings. 15 million Russian civilians died in WW2”
I used the term blanket bombing to illustrate the inevitability of civilian casualties being caught up in military targeting.
Is even one loss of innocent life ever justifiable?Heroism has always been a celebrated character trait
“Not sure how you would imagine that cutting the throat of another human being who is trussed up like a Christmas turkey whist wearing a mask to hide your identity is in anyway an act of heroism ?”
I don’t personally find that heroic. just as many friends that have served with the military don’t find their experience of ending another’s life heroic. My opinion though is that both ‘terrorist’ and soldier find themselves at that point in their lives for not dissimilar reasons.
mekkenollyFree MemberYou’re brave Op! You have awoken the dragon so to speak. Can’t offer any better advice than above really, other than what is it’s inherent worth to you?
I too asked for advice re selling a bike on here. The responses ranged from helpful to vitriolic, but it did help me to reach a satisfactory conclusion in the end. In future I would suggest not using words like worth/what or advice on this forum as they seem to encourage distemper in some. Good luck!mekkenollyFree MemberSurely it’s just an urge to fight for a cause? The barbarity of his actions are hard to swallow, but would suggest that blanket bombing and western military’s acceptance of collateral damage is equally hard to justify.
Heroism has always been a celebrated character trait, and one that governments capitalise on to feed the military with willing bodies; fighting for what they believe/told is ‘right’
I think that we (the west)have to take partial responsibility for propelling this notion and fueling what is occurring in the Middle East at the moment.mekkenollyFree MemberRHLSTP is very funny at times. Music wise, have really enjoyed Blue Marten podcasts; quite an eclectic mix. Solid Steel podcasts are worth ploughing through as well(there are hundreds!)
mekkenollyFree MemberNot really following you Chekw. just wanted to reassure the op that his child’s behaviour was not particularly unusual or anything to be alarmed at. Your suggesting that it is?
“Only if they are playing with toys otherwise kids would be bored stiff if they talk to curtain or wall. They only imagine when they are playing or just finished playing with toys or friends but certainly not out of the blue”
Sorry, but I strongly disagree with that. Infants’ brains are awash with trillions of connection between neurons(2/3 times as many as the adult brain)The ones that stay are strengthened by repetition(learning etc)They simply don’t have the experience or capability to make a distinction between what is or isn’t play at that age.

Sorry Chekw, would disagree with that statement. For a child at two years old their grasp of what is reality and fantasy is still very fragile, and as such one commonly spills into the other.
mekkenollyFree MemberAre you looking to buy complete? or frame only and build up? Would definitely consider the Whyte 905. Had previous year’s model and was fantastic. Also as a leftfield choice the Mondraker Vantage; bit of a Marmite looks wise but uses their “Forward Geometry” concept.I haven’t ridden one yet but own a Foxy which shares geometry etc and have been blown away by the performance of it. it’s also available frame only at around £350-400 which would leave you a grand for better spec than complete bikes.
mekkenollyFree MemberImo it’s perfectly normal behaviour for a child of that age. As others have said above,it’s tied in with development of imagination etc.
We all have an inner dialogue don’t we? We are just conditioned from a young age to internalize those dialogues due to social constructs etc..
I would double check the cupboards etc for The Babadook, just to be on the safe side!
mekkenollyFree MemberIf you need any advice on guerrilla marketing, feel free to message me
mekkenollyFree MemberThat last vid was very poignant Goatboy.Worth a thousand words.
mekkenollyFree MemberAs i said earlier Thomthumb, have lurked for years. Initially for bike related advice. Found it more entertaining sitting in the stalls, chewing sparrow hearts, watching the big guns go at each other.
mekkenollyFree MemberThanks for your apology Njee it means a lot. Was just looking for an answer to a question. If you’re ever up this way and fancy a ride out on some less traveled trails, give me a shout. I promise i’m nowhere near as pompous/annoying in real life!
mekkenollyFree MemberMr. P, I woke up to a dearth of emails this morning from countrywide. Mainly inquiries about the bike. Some wanting to know how I can live with myself for having the tenacity to post a classified link on a chat forum.
If I got around £250 for the bike Quirrel. I would be only to pleased to be somebody’s Goatboy for the daymekkenollyFree MemberAre you for real Njee20? You responded to my initial innocent question with the suggestion that I was being underhand in some way(“Thinly veiled”). It wasn’t the case;I was guilty of being naive to the unwritten rules of this forum re. selling etc.
I have only been polite if a little goading towards you despite your unhelpful/friendliness(“knickers in a twist princess”,”parasite” etc) I was grateful of the advice i’ve been given and have taken it on board.
I’m afraid that you have to take equal responsibility for the perpetuation of this thread by your Jack Merridewesque behaviour(The main antagonist in the book lord of the Flies).Like any social grouping there is a heiracy (both perceived and actual.) You chose to “kill the pig” rather than show humility and fuel a Stw feeding frenzy. That sort of behaviour although recognised as a base human trait, does little to forward humanity- It is a problem all to prevelant online and is essentially bullying.
I would say that if i were to meet you for a pint and ask you the same question, your answer would’ve been a stark contrast to your typed response. Thus keyboard warrior.
As I said earlier in this conversation, thanks for your input. I do feel bad that this thread alone has “irked and pissed you off” within 24 hrs. I would suggest you go and have a w*nk or something; relieve some of that pressure!mekkenollyFree MemberI could almost fulfill both criteria if you think it may help Quirrel. I own a ‘chavvy’ dog(large Staffy). Also have a bald head and my knowledge of Patois is extensive.
mekkenollyFree MemberIt’s a good price for something I personally find indispensable. Have had two over the years(first was lost unfortunately!) Ex. windproof and good showerproof(do keep clean though and reproof)Proof enough? Be aware like most Montane clothing it does come up small(44″ chest and rec. size was xl, bit too snug!)
mekkenollyFree MemberSorry Crankboy. Didn’t realise you were interested. Am at work at the moment, could I hav your email and will ping some over later this evening?
mekkenollyFree MemberIt’s all good Piedi, I can hold my own. Just keyboard warriors with nowt better to do. I appreciate when posting on forums you’re open to flaming etc. Thanks for your constructive approach to my orig question
mekkenollyFree MemberThanks again dude, duly noted. I suppose they say no such thing as bad publicity!
mekkenollyFree MemberThank you for clarifying Sob alias/Gofasterstripes. Wondered where the hate was coming from. Ducking bonkers. Just wanted some advice. Am all up for a bit of bantz(sorry). Just seems like a lot of sycophants jumping on the bandwagon without really makin informed judgements. Had cleared out my shed of spare parts will probably hold off listing for a bit! Not a trader, just Skint and wanted to finish a build for my partner. Have responded to a number of posts in a helpful manner recently. Will continue to try and rise above it
mekkenollyFree MemberNo Tom, have lurked for years. Part of my new year new me (blah blah)was to be more sociable and less of a cave dweller. As you can see from the above, that’s going really well today ;-)
mekkenollyFree MemberHora price is negotiable as stated in orig post. I do have some funky specialised disco slipper sz 11 I can chuck into the mix if interested. Am assumming you re not taking the pee, although the wow! Did make me wonder…
mekkenollyFree MemberThanks Soobalius. Just want to sell a bike to finish another bike for my partner. Forgot how wondrous this forum is. I can see why TJ left now ;-)
mekkenollyFree MemberGlasgowdan I’m afraid you’ve arrived rather late to the party. Never mind, there’s plenty of room for a l’al ‘un.
mekkenollyFree MemberThanks, but i’m no parasite Njee just wanted some advice. Your tone throughout has been pretty negative which is why i responded accordingly. if you look at my history it is fairly balanced between selling/general chat. Thanks for the advice though, will bear it in mind.
Good day to you all and thanks for the advicemekkenollyFree MemberI’m obviously not very well versed in the nuances of ST forums. Just wanted some advice on how to sell a bike that i’ve got up on the classifieds. i’m not a big seller, just enjoy bikes. I put a link up to the sale as thought it would save people trawling through classifieds to find my ad. Seems a bit precious to me but hey ho i’ll know for next time.
mekkenollyFree MemberCokie: I live in Cumbria(South lakes)
Take on board comments re. price. Had stated offers around £300 posted.
Njee, thanks for your input. You appear to be carrying around a lot of anger. It must be a right bloody minefield for you navigating the internet; if you’re moved to action every time you read something that offends you. Unplug yourself and go and get amongst it.As I said in title- “advice on bike i have for sale” If you’re ever up this way I offer free hugz to the disillusioned.
Gouranga!
