I was in Austria recently where 4g is prevalent. It’s fapping great. The maximum I saw was 42Mbps and 22Mbps was probably the average as I travelled about a city.

As other state, the radio network (or last mile) is the limiting factor and this is going to be pretty poor until the rollout is complete. Don’t expect to be able to travel around and pick 4G up everywhere yet. If you want to use it as a fixed line replacement service you might be OK depending on location.

I’d say go for it but don’t trust the coverage checker, make sure you can take it back / refund if the primary location you will be using it turns out to have shite coverage.

My day job is telecoms and have been working with EE for the last 8 months helping them build their new LTE network. They are well ahead of the curve on 4G. Orange and TMUK subscribers will likely be able to roam from the 3G network onto the 4G network and vica versa.

One limitation of 4G at the moment is that to make a voice call you have to disable the 4G data connection and use 3G – so you wouldn’t be able to surf on 4g while talking to someone on the phone. This is just a temporary thing until equipment vendors and operators work out how to do some more complex stuff – like make a phone call 😀

I am questioning if they are trying to do me for disks and pads by implying an MOT fail

My last service sheet says pad thickness 6mm, (new pads are 12mm) the car has covered 1750 miles since then. The disks look fine to me.

No problem spending money on my car but I do have a problem with being ripped off which is what I think they are trying to do.

I’ll get a second opinion from another garage.

the disks are a bit rusty but the braking surface is nice, shiny, not pitted or scored

The car is due for a service in about 1000 miles. If my mechanic says new disks/pads are needed I would go for it without question but that is because I trust him.

I reckon these guys are trying it on so will get a test somewhere else.

so next question – if it passes at 2nd garage can I tell 1st garage to whistle for the test money?
If it fails at both i’ll obviously pay both garages for the test.

Under vehicle checks

flexible brake pipes and any other metal brake pipes visible beneath the car are checked
discs and drums (external only) checked for condition and contamination
brake back plates and caliper securing devices are checked for condition and security

I bled my brakes at the weekend and even though I took wheels and pads out for the bleed then thoroughly cleaned the disks afterwards they still squealed like piggie.

cleaning the disks with muc off brake cleaner didn’t cure the squeal – if anything it was worse.
sanding the pads with a coarse grit sandpaper cured it for me.

so if you do clean your disks you might need to sand your pads. to me it seems like the pad surface and disk surface bed in together – if you reset one you better reset the other.

looks like junior only has one brake – lever on the right = back brake in US – yes?
wonder if that is intentional or just the way his bike came. I guess there is less potential for OTB with rear brake only.

removing both brakes really would be bad parenting 😈

What do you want out of life?

Do you want a steady income and perceived job security (any company can fold or be bought/sold..) plus time for family and lower stakes.

Maybe you want to take an educated gamble, make the jump and do something that could prove benefits for you and your kids for years to come OR could turn out to be a nightmare and leave you financially short until you get back into a stable salaried job again

I’ve just experienced first hand how being in a company from the start then being snapped up by a bigger fish can be a real life changer. Some people lose their jobs and start over again. Some who got in early, got $$$ as share equity was released and are well set up for many years to come.

Do due diligence and look at the business model.
Check your current employment contract for competition clauses.

Try and find a balance in his offer between salary and equity provision in the new business – you might be able to get a similar salary but have an ace in the hole with some equity that could be worth a lot in years to come

If he offers a better salary and equity it would be a no brainer for me.

I don’t fly BA now after some of their staff recently decided to strike over pay and conditions and caused untold people lots of grief and heartache. BA handled it terribly.

Years ago I snogged a pretty air hostess on London to Chicago which was quite good service as I really am quite unattractive. I flew with them all the time in the hope it would happen again.

my 5 year old son loved both (especially science museum) and it was free admission

I replaced the DVD drive in my bran new MBP with an SSD – re-installed OS-X on that and then made some pointers for documents photos downloads etc so they sit on the HDD

so operating system and desktop are on SSD
documents, mail, downloads etc are on HDD

it works really really well – Apple should offer it as an option.
The DVD drive goes into an external USB enclosure so it’s still available – I haven’t ever used it though

southe korea / north korea flag mix up was pretty special

My local LLoydsTSB has nice cashiers that smile when I’m either making a deposit or withdrawing (oooh matron!) and that’s enough for me.

For phone service you would have thought one of the online banks is geared up best.

Also if it’s saving your after have you looked at cutting out the banks and doing peer to peer lending?
You can get a better rate if you take a few more risks.
