A bit more than I’d intended to spend… it’s the ‘Race’ build from Bromley Bikes with additional Reverb, CK headset and Hope/Stans wheels.

I have nothing constructive to add to this thread, except to post a picture of my new Yeti ASR5c in order to prove to the OP that his reasoning is therefore incorrect and the correct number of bikes is still N+1

I had a bit of nightmare round 18/19 miles and dragged myself home in 4hr 51.
Very glad I’ve done it but will be sticking to bikes for any future events – my knees are properly screwed now!

I am right now and will be for the majority of Saturday….

Counting down the minutes until 09:45 Sunday morning in deepest darkest South London, when the gun will go and I’ll attempt my first marathon.

Really looking forward to it… although I’m a bit worried about how hot its going to be.

(Meesterbond how you feeling about it?)

My first one too… currently alternating between very excited and bricking it. Wishing I’d trained more, wondering whether every little twinge or slightest ache is going to cripple me come Sunday… the usual!

I’ll be pacing round the house tomorrow though. Just want it to start now!

Pick up new bike on Saturday.
    Run London Marathon on Sunday.

Probably won’t fancy a ride after that.

I’m 5’10 with a 32″ inseam (or thereabouts) and a medium w/ 90mm stem and an inline post felt fine on a 2 1/2 ride on an ASR5c

Had to replace one on our 5 Series last week – £521. Dunlop Maxx GT Sport in a bizarrely lowest of the low profile runflat made from rubber from a single tree deep the rain forests of Borneo or something.

Jaw hit floor when the missus told me how much they charged…

Excellent – I think I know where you mean. Last time we dived off left into the trees too early down that fireroad.

    Many thanks!

While there’s a Swinley thread open, can someone try and explain to me where the start of Deerstalker and Labyrinth are? My usual loop finishes at the manhole cover on the fireroad above the jump gully, if I go down towards the jumps there and up the other side, round the reservoir I eventually come to a big clearing… from there I’m lost!

I’m in the process of changing my TNT 5 Spot at the moment and have settled on a Yeti ASR5c. Took one out for the day last weekend and it was the most fun I’ve had in ages.

I had a shortlist of 4 or 5 at the beginning of the day but after trying the Yeti I’m not even going to try the rest.

I’m training for London at the moment, 2 1/2 weeks to go and I’m out with a fluy, coldy bug which is really frustrating.

The plan looks good, couple of thoughts though…
I wouldn’t worry too much about the speedwork or doing the LSR at a ‘pace’, let your body tell you how fast you can take it and just get the miles up without killing yourself
I’d probably look at a longer taper (2-3 weeks perhaps?)

    Good luck!

In much the same way that a first pressing of Sgt. peppers lonely hearts will never be worth mega money cause there are millions of them.

Actually the first mono presses of Sgt Pepper are pretty rare… one in mint condition with all the cutouts and suchlike fetches hundreds despite there being thousands sold.

Agree with the overkill comment… we’ve got Sonos throughout the house which we’ve built up over the last 2-3 years. A great bit of kit, couldn’t be simpler to set up and the ipad / iphone app is actually better than the dedicated controller (the old ones at least).

We use it with a Napster subscription which (although it’s been a bit flaky recently) is usually excellent… About £5 a month I think.

Also, if you’ve got a decent hifi already, use one of the small boxes (ZR90’s I think), stick it through a DAC and it’s practically CD quality.

I work for a less well-known insurance company. It’s mental. Everyone’s f*cked. Just knackered and stressed. Lots of politics and fighting at the top.

Seriously thinking of jacking it in and going contracting for 6 months.

What geetee said above… I’ve tried various B&W models, standmount and floorstanding with my MF amp and without exception they’ve sounded dull and lifeless.

Nice watches… the SMPs in particular sits really comfortably on the wrist. I’ve had an auto Seamaster Professional for a few years and it’s been absolutely faultless – 2531.80.00 model if memory serves, picked it up secondhand for about £700 in pretty much mint condition.

One thing though, watches are rarely a particularly sound investment. They do depreciate heavily and there’s a very active secondhand market for them if you want to try and pick up a bargain. Autos hold their value a little better than quartzes – I don’t recall ever seeing a manual SMP though.

The Bugle is my favourite comedy podcast, otherwise ‘The Radio 4 Friday Night Comedy Podcast’, ‘Fighting Talk’ if that floats your boat and the Kermode Film weekly reviews are usually worth a listen.

Definitely give the Bugle a go though – John Oliver and Andy Zaltsman talk a lot of bull**** about the week’s news.

As above – Tesco £5 job works just fine.

For wax I just use Datawax[/url]… the green stuff’s fine for multipurpose use. I get through about a quarter / third of a stick per wax.

I don’t think there’s a whole lot Biffy Clyro could have done to stop it – provide you don’t change the words much and pay the appropriate royalties you can record covers of pretty much anything.

That said, I’m sure they won’t be too upset about the extra cash and exposure it gets though…

Very interesting review – nice to see something so balanced…

I’m assuming you’re coming from a standard (?) Mojo, if so, why the change? seriously considering a Mojo sl as the next bike but wondering what the benefits of the HD are in the real world (given that I’m really not that gnarrr)

I fly with BMI pretty regularly – roughly fortnightly I’d guess and always get allocated seat F. The row varies but I’m always next to the window on the right hand side, never the left.

I’d avoid Adidas Kanadias… great off road, but on tarmac they’re lethal – completely unpredictable grip. Perfect for running round the local park but I have to run very carefully to get there.

Cheers for the offer, but I’ve got another bike I can use – this one was a bit of a project that didn’t go quite to plan…
I’ve emailed Intense – really don’t expect anything from them as it’s not their problem in the slightest, but no harm in seeing what they suggest.

It’s an Intense Spider FRO – having done a bit of research, apparently the frame comes with a max rider weight of 180lbs.. fully laiden I reckon I’d be about 190-200lbs so was probably pushing it. That said, it was two very light rides (once round the park to set it up and once round Swinley) and one slightly tougher in the snow at Whinlatter at the weekend – no crashes though and I don’t think the wheels left the ground except to put it back on the car.

I value my teeth enough to retire this one and put it down to experience. Anyone want to buy a lightly used Fox RP23!

Might drop Intense a note and see if they do anything like the Turner new for old scheme?

Well, I scraped a bit of the paint away and it goes through to the metal so it’ll definitely go on the scrapheap. Previous owner says it was in tip top shape before being powder coated so looks like I’ll have to put it down to experience and write it off – should be able to get a few quid back from the shock.

Think I’ll be sticking to new frames with warranties in future.

    meesterbond

Can’t say I really fancy riding it so I think it’ll be written off…
May scrape the paint off and see if I can see anything underneath – it was powder coated just before I bought it so I guess it could just be a crack in the paintwork.

The housing market is so regional it’s difficult to say. We’ve just sold two properties in SW London had 20-30 viewings before we got an offer. Plenty of supply and buyers can really take their time viewing everything before making a decision. Plus it doesn’t help that at the moment you need a big deposit to get a decent mortgage.
Both of our properties were bought near the top of the market (2006 / 2007) and both made close to what was paid for them… one 10% over, one 10% under.

As for the recession, at the moment in the City, there is scarily little sign of it. I know of a number of companies who’ve been paying out selective mid-year pay increases in order to retain specific individuals, results, in the main, are pretty good and it just doesn’t feel like it did back in late ’08/’09.

Off to Chamonix again in January – must be the 5th year running I reckon.

Runs Whistler a close second as the best place I’ve ever ridden.

If you’re careful and drain it into a pot or something, then yes it’s perfectly possible…
If however you start removing bits then put the forks down to change the music then you’ll have to replace the float oil as it will have leaked all over the bench.

    Hypothetically speaking.

Lange and Sohne start at about £10k – don’t think they do anything in stainless steel any more, so I imagine that’s out… They’re really in the Patek, VC level.

Personally, I’d look carefully at IWC – very classy and if you’re after something slightly more dressy then the Portofino range is lovely.
I’d be a little wary of Panerai – not that they aren’t great watches (I’ve got one myself which I love) but the 44mm ones do wear quite big and the 40mm Luminors (personally) don’t look right (too tall). If you can try one on (or even better pick up a Marina Militaire copy to wear for a few weeks first) then do.

Otherwise, JLC, whilst a bit more expensive, are very smart – manufacture movement across the range. Glashutte Original always seem very well put together – part of the Swatch empire, but very much at the higher end – the bracelets in particular are a step or two about Omega and Rolex.

Finally, Zenith have started doing some very nice pieces again…not sure of the prices, but seem to remember they weren’t excessive.

I picked up an Intense Spider FRO for a pretty reasonable sum from the classifieds a month or two back. Climbs really well and although I’m still adjusting the suspension etc I’m already loving the VPP…

I’m not sure there is a ‘best’ out there, but it’s started me thinking about a Tracer when I come round to replace my 5 Spot..

I’ve been riding a Lib Tech TRS with ‘Banana-tech’ and ‘Magnetraction’ and probably some other jargonny tech for the last couple of years and I love it.

Takes a little getting used to – on piste there’s not a massive difference, can’t say that it carves any worse than comparable non-rocker boards (my previous DWD one for example)… straight-lining over flats is a little disconcerting at first as it tends to wander a little more than you’d expect.

In powder there’s definitely a little more float, the nose seems to stay up with a little less effort, but it can’t compete with a genuine powder stick (a Fish or Moloko for example). What it does give you is the ability to have one board do pretty much everything very well…

Places like Blowers and Watches.co.uk will sell stuff on your behalf, but will take a generous cut.

Personally I’d use the Sales Corner on tz-uk, although you used to need 25 posts elsewhere on the fora before you could access it. The people who post on there are in the main a pretty trustworthy group and you’ll get a fair price.

Breitling are now selling watches with a manufacture movement in the new Chronomats, although they do command a slight premium over their usual blingy offerings… about £3k extra if I remember correctly.

They are still selling ETA based watches for a lot of money as well though.
