I’d be interested in the Fall and Stones albums – drop me a note with what you’ve got and what you’d like for them – email in profile (I think).

If you ever get round to making a list of what you’ve got I might be interested in some… although probably not Level 42!

Record Collector magazine advertises collections in the classifieds, there’s still a market out there for it.

Don’t know about the SEs but I used to have a Custom 22… really lovely guitar, incredibly versatile, wish I never sold it.

There’s all sorts by the look of the Solwise website… I went for one with a couple of ethernet and 6 power sockets as I’m a bit short of power points in the room I’ll be using it in.

Excellent… two Solwise plugs ordered. If they work ok then I might go for the wireless one as well.

Personally I tend to buy and sell any secondhand watches on tz-uk.com. You do need 50 or so posts to use the sales corner, so might not be convenient.

    Get one.. brilliant fun.

Had my 911 for 2yrs – still (sort of) looking for a bike rack for the roof!

I got the dealer to throw one in when I bought it a couple of years back. Quite a practical car considering…

Main drawback to Sonos is the cost. If you’re building up gradually it’s less of an issue but to do the house gets pretty spendy.

Otherwise, I love it as a solution – really flexible, excellent apps on iPhone and iPad (better than the expensive controllers to be honest), hooks up to Napster, Spotify, Last FM etc really easily.

re. DACs, the Muscial Fidelity VDAC is pretty good and (was) reasonably priced (about £150 IIRC).

    Squarepusher to the thread please.

A claim to fame, I’ve recorded with Squarepusher…

Admittedly we were 14 and it was for some pre-GCSE school project and he was just Tom back then, but all the same…
    Sickeningly talented even then.

Yep – the ‘flappy paddle’ auto box, or in Porsche’s case a ‘pushy button’ box. No idea why Porsche decided that they’d put the gear change on the front of the steering wheel rather than the back like everyone else.

I’ve got a tiptronic box in my 997 and it’s perfectly fine. Probably not the ‘drivers’ choice, but that’s personal preference.

DAB really isn’t the future, it’s ancient technology (in the whole scheme of things) still has poor uptake and even those with a vested interest in it succeeding think the 2015 FM switch-off date is highly ambitious.

Buy one if it does what you want it to now, but I don’t think FM will be going anywhere in the near future. Personally, I’d expect DAB to be obsolete before FM is.

Anyone got one in a colour other than boring black?

I’ve got an ASR5c in slightly less boring white… running it with 120mm Fox Floats which seem to suit it pretty well.

I haven’t seen Jaeger LeCoultre mentioned much yet – I picked up a Master Compressor Chrono earlier this year from M&W at near half price… 41mm and wears pretty close to the wrist so doesn’t feel too big. Really nice watch.

A week in Les Gets at the end of March… can’t wait, even sent my board off to be repaired a couple of weeks back – completely trashed it in the trees in Courmayeur last year.

No new toys this year, although probably need a new helmet

re. Rockers, Cambers, Combo boards, it seems to be about 80% marketing and 20% substance. I ride a LibTech TRS which is a rocker design i.e. if you look at it side on it’s a bit more banana shaped than a cambered board – the bit between your feet curves down rather than up, think of a stretched out U shape rather than a soft ‘W’ (A better description)

In reality in powder it does seem to float a little better – the nose comes up more easily than my previous, longer board… I don’t think it carves quite as well on piste and if you running flat it definitely wanders around a little more… fun in lift queues the first few times you use it. The differences really aren’t night and day though.

To be honest, have a look at the specs, make sure you’re chosing the right type of board (freestyle, freeride etc) then pick the one with the best graphics.

My old bike shop claimed they completely stripped and rebuilt everything that came in as the QC from the factory couldn’t always be relied on.

Definitely Canyon at that price… particularly if they’ve got any left in the sale.

We’ve got Sonos throughout the house, 5 or 6 boxes – built up over 3 or 4 years and whilst a little sceptical to begin with, I love it.

Good points – so easy to set up, as close to plug and play as I’ve found. Sounds quality ranges from decent using the ZP120s through to absolutely excellent with the ZP90 through a DAC and Amp. We did a back to back test with my CD player through the same amp and speakers and the difference was (disappointingly, given how much the CD player cost) minimal. Interface with Napster, Spotify, Last FM etc is excellent and works seamlessly with iTunes. iPhone / iPad apps are free and as good as the controllers (much better than the old style controllers in fact). Now works with OSX Lion too.

Bad Points – it’s not cheap. Having said it’s plug and play, when I merged two iTunes libraries, I had some difficulty getting to recognise the whole lot, although that’s more my fault than the system.

Can’t say I’ll be rushing out to buy it… everything since BSSM has sounded the same to me. UMPP and Mothers Milk were the high points.

Was the second disk of Stadium Arcadia any good? I never made it that far.

I really want a time trial / Tri bike. I’ve never ridden a TT and only do 2 or 3 tri/duathlons a year.

    Completely unnecessary.

    ASR-5C, 5’10 – Medium
    Stem’s 90mm I think
    Reverb Seatpost
    No warranty issues
Only slight regret is not heli taping the frame before the first ride – there’s now a few cable scuffs which won’t come out…
Running F120 forks which seem perfect for the bike. Only change might be some lighter wheels – the Hope/Stans are fine, but tempted to go lighter.

D – a Minervois, rather nice and slipping down rather easily

The missus is out drinking, the boy’s tucked up in his cot so I can fire up the proper stereo for the first time in ages. Bliss.

For myself, even if I had millions available, this would be my watch of choice:

Why? Because it’s a robustly built watch that appeals by it’s sheer simplicity. It does one thing. It tells the time clearly and unambiguously. One second’s glance will tell you what time it is, which is why I’ve got the B&R replica, and I’ll probably get a £50 replica of one of these too, as the £5000 it costs is out of my reach.

Given that there are hundreds of watches with that clear a face and similar stylings costing a few hundred quid or less… why would you buy a fake?

    meesterbond
    Full Member

I could probably sell most of my watches for similar to what I paid for them, maybe even make a few quid on a couple, partly because I got good discounts when I bought most of them, but mainly because the price of Swiss watches has gone through the roof and continues to rise. Rolex seem to have twice yearly increases, Panerai went up across the board another 7% on the 1st August after a 7.5% rise in January… An Omega Seamaster auto that cost £1250 3 years back now goes for £2300. The only change is a slightly different escapement, but Swatch need Omega to fill a slightly different market segment so rather than change the product, they change the price. Same with Breitling, stick in a manufacture movement and they’re £7k. Crazy money.

Unless you managed to pick up a cheap Double Red Sub or an early Daytona, I’m not sure they’d class as a particularly safe investment though. Yes, you can make money but I’d suggest it’s often through luck rather than judgement and if that’s your motive then there are much better places to put your cash.

Its auto. Aren’t Tissot and Omega the same innards?

Both Tissot and Omega are owned by Swatch Group who also own a company called ETA who produce movements. Until recently, ETA movements were inside a huge proportion of mid (and although they’d only reluctantly admit it) quite a few higher end watches.
Basically a company (like IWC for example) would buy the movement in kit form (called an Ebauche I think) throw away the bits they felt they could make more accurately, refinish and rebuilt the movement and install it in their own watches.

The movements also come in a number of different qualities depending on the tolerances etc…

So whilst the movement in the Tissot and the Omega may well come from the same place (to be honest, I’ve no idea what, if anything, Omega do to the movements) they’re not likely to be same.

Seems expensive for a Tissot… also, is it Quartz or auto. If Quartz, then seems very expensive.

If it’s COSC certified (did it come with COSC certificate?) then it should be accurate to -4 to +6 seconds a day so yours would be outside that. Even if it isn’t tested to that Standard then it still sounds a bit high.

If you got it serviced at Omega and it bothers you, then I’d contact them and ask them to have another look at it.

I can heartily recommend Chris Kerr[/url] in Berwick St…

Considerably cheaper than the ‘Row (as an example I paid £1450 for a three piece suit last year although it may have gone up slightly), properly bespoke rather than Made to Measure. I had three fittings / measurements and I was delighted with the outcome.

He’s made quite a few suits for Vic Reeves, so isn’t averse a bit of tweed!

Unilet in New Malden every time.

I still travel over there from Essex to buy hifi, the service is so good.

I’ve always found Walrus to be rude and pretty unhelpful… stock some very nice gear, but very much for the valves and turntables crowd only.

When I was formally accepted, I had to sign a contract of sorts committing to raising the funds etc etc. Assuming you’re not being asked to sign anything upfront and not paying anything upfront then I don’t see why you’d be committed to it.

Even if you were, place are like gold dust and I’m sure you’d have no trouble offloading them!

Unless you’re really set on running for one charity then apply for several. I ran for VICTA last year, they had a relatively small sponsorship requirement and they had some 300 or so places.

A colleague of mine applied to three last year and got accepted for all of them – she then found a couple of other people to take the spare places (although they had to satisfy the charity that they’d raise the required funds).

A new federation… judging by our current popularity that would be us and Wales. Actually, Wales didn’t back us either so it’s just us.

FIFA’s clearly as corrupt as a corrupt thing (although we’ve been guilty of a few Mulberry shaped encouragements in the past so we’ve not exactly got the moral high ground here) so the only way to change is from within. We need to work at getting our standing up within FIFA and that’s only going to come through working much more closely with UEFA and stop this little Englander, hard-done-by, it’s our ball and we’re going home mentality. Stick by Platini and when he gets the top job next time, hope we can have a little influence.

Whoever thought getting up and trying to postpone the ballot really is a prize numpty though.
