I fitted a load of these about 6 years ago with no problems as a cheaper alternative

They dont connect to a central hub as such, but you can program each valve seperately on the valve head, and you can get a small remote than allows you to change the temp up and down if necessary. The remote can link to multiple valves, and you can use more than one remote for different floors / areas.

can also program them from a laptop with the USB stick accessory.

Thanks, this place is great for answering questions that although seem simple to people who know the answer,  are a puzzle to the average man who is just curious as to how things work!

My daughter will be a bit disappointed about my mole theory being wrong though.  Maybe I won’t tell her the truth just yet…

So basically it would get red hot, melt through the earth to Australia and we’d be overrun with giant electrified mutant super moles!

I love STW I knew you’d have the answer, my 4yr old will love that as she was also asking me why I was taking the photo!

Thanks. Yeah a letter would be easier so I’ll do a ‘nice’ (ie not arsey) letter for her just saying the minimum term has passed and she wants to give her months notice of cancellation. Then see what happens. I’ll stick a copy of the contract in with it and the 12 months bit highlighted.

Hmm don’t fancy 4.30am wake ups,  bird mites or loads of bird poo so ordered some bird spikes to fit where they have access before they get the nest made. There’s a big wood less than 25m away lazy gits

Descent in zwift will be a fair bit faster than real life anyway as you don’t have to slow down for any corners or traffic.

I’d ride uphill for an hour, i often do it on Bigring VR which has loads of HD films of alps passes. But i love hills and hate stuff like riding round the London map

PC is just a refurbished Dell desktop so probably hasnt got a mega power supply in it. The 1050 only needs 75W though and i’ve read it can be used from a 250W supply as long as you arent really pushing the whoe PC really hard, which hopefully Zwift shouldnt do?

Are there any cheaper low power cards?

not in a massive rush to get one, only really want it to make Zift and another trainer video program run without juddering as much. All i’ve got at the moment is the built in HD4600 intel graphics.  Might hang on and see what happens over the summer to prices.  Price at moment on amazon is £113 for a KFA2 GTX 1050, or £106 for an open box one from amazon warehouse. Dont realy know a lot about graphics cards so not sure if thats good or bad!

^^^ ha yeah that would be a clever scam!

i did think about appealing it myself but tbh i dont have the time or interest to faff around with that, i thought £19 was fair enough for an obvious parking overstay (they had number plate recognition cameras so knew the exact entry and exit times)

i used this company a couple of years ago:

    Home

pay them 19 quid and they’ll get it cancelled (at the time the website said if it couldnt be cancelled thay’d pay the fine, not sure if this is still the case!) Anyway, i thought the ticket would have to be paid as all the warning signs were obvious about max time, and my wife had dumped the car for 2 hours in a max 45 minute stay place. They got my ticket cancelled, was happy to pay them 19 quid for it rather than the £75 fine.

If you want to do races with big groups of people on the screen at once then lower end specs might struggle, if it’s just you riding your own thing then should be ok.

One nice thing about zwift is that it taylors the graphics and options to suit your laptop, so you can’t go to the menu and try the highest possible graphics level (available to those with proper gaming spec machines!) So you never really think “aww bollocks I wish I’d got a better machine “!

Also when you are riding even on basic graphics it’s still fun and if you’re anything like me, when you’re sweating away chasing someone up the radio tower you don’t notice the grapics too much anyway!

    What macruiskan said.

From my extensive ‘how it’s made’ viewing he is correct.

In the final rolling they can’t set the rollers close enough together to get it that thin, so they take feeds from two separate foil rolls and roll them together under one roller set to its minimum thickness, then separate the two sheets once it comes back out.

Where the foil touches the roller it produces one surface, and where it touches the other foil gives it the other finish. However sadly I don’t think Mr how it’s made voice-over said which one was made by which so we can now argue about that!

BigringVR is still free at the moment. HD quality videos of lots of mountain passes.

Edit – Sorry ignore that, I thought you had a trainer that adjusted resistance automatically

Would this sort of plug be ok bonded in with something like tiger seal?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8mm-x-4mm-Hole-Plugs-Plastic-Blanking-Inserts-Masking-Finishing-White-/221925765410?var=&hash=item33abce7122:m:mwI2Q7zqm6410DYALlH_C0w

Might look neater than screws but not sure how well they’ll stick in. Holes are 3-4mm diameter, so those plugs should wedge in ok but will the tiger seal be ok to use with them for a proper watertight seal?

Will that sort of plastic paint over ok as well?

    Thanks

yeah i’ve heard skiing is generally just on easy slopes and gets a bit slushy later in the morning.

Wife just fancies a few mornings as she hasnt been on snow for years, and would be good to see how kids liked it before we book a winter hol which costs loads more!

We’ll be in a van and got heating so cold shouldnt matter. Will check out the Bourg st maurice campsite as well.

I’ve just started using one called routeCourse, let’s you plan a route using your phone and can then send it straight to your garmin without having to use garmin connect, or plotting a route on the device. I’m just using the free version at present but will probably give them $10 for the premium one as it has a few useful extra features.

^^ best check with agent then, sounds like you could be ok after 7 days as spawnofyorkshire says. I know with the one we looked at they wouldnt take it off the market until contracts done.

we had this on a repossession we put an offer in.

as i understand, because they are acting on behalf of a bank who need to get the highest possible value for the property they have to do this.

If another higher offer goes in they will then publicise this offer, so right upto exchanging of contracts it will still be actively marketed so you could end up going through all the conveyencing then have a higher offer put in just before you exchange.

Who’s it’s for? Some companies have Sunday’s as part of the working week some don’t. Lots of little contractual differences.

Its Northern Rail, job just says train driver, Barrow in Furness. Doesnt state if its passenger or freight.

One issue at the moment is that the application site says you must be within 45 min commute, i’m currently about 53mins away but would be prepared to relocate if successful. Dont know if this will get my application rejected fromt the start though as one if the first few questions is ‘are you less then 45 minutes away’ :(

do you do the workouts in ERG mode? I’ve found if i try to spin up before the short 10 second sprints it doesnt work very well as the trainer just alters resistance while i’m spinning the power up.

Only tried it once mind so maybe i’ve just not got the technique right!

There’s no screw to pressure the roller onto the tyre, the contact relies on rider weight on the saddle. Basically the arms holding the quick release aren’t supported so if you remove the bike they just collapse down onto the floor. If I stand up and put a lot of power down, especially if resistance is cranked up then as I’m not weighting onto the roller I get slippage.

There’s a few trainers with this design that don’t actually force the roller afainst the tyre with screw adjuster

You don’t always need a fancy laptop for zwift, I’m running it at high 1080 resolution on a £200 aldi laptop i3 4010u 4GB ram and it’s fine.

It did get a bit jerky one ride when there was loads of other riders on screen same time as me but if I drop the resolution to 720 it was smooth again.

Graphics are nice but when you’re working hard I don’t really notice much difference between 720 and 1080 resolution.

Unless your laptop is ancient maybe just try it with zwift?

ive had to do this twice, done it 2 different ways.

    1) if its something you can buy in the shops eg a yale system then you can probably download the installation manual which will tell you the master reset proceedure so you can then just disconnect wires without tamper alarm going off for ages (it will go off when you open the cover to do the reset proceedure)

    2) if you cant get manual online, and i’m guessing you know the user code (to turn it on and off) as you said you’d had to silence it before then – mains power, off ear plugs in, up ladder to outside siren, open that, tamper alarm will go off, get someone to silence that with the code, disconnect siren battery in the outside box, then back inside the house, open up control box inside (might be seperate to the keypad if its just a small keypad near a door), disconnect battery insde control panel, remove any fuses on the board or disconnect any mains wires and make safe.

^ true, but i always lack motivation on flat routes so i tend to pick climbs (when using the Bkool Sim, which i normally use). I find i get a better workout session if theres a big hill.

Grest Dun fell, (848m) is highest tarmac road in uk I think, it’s just north of Knock in NE cumbria. Knock is about 180m so it’s a nice long climb, could probably combine it with hartside as well. Road is a dead end at the top though as it just goes to a radar station. It’s a bridleway but tarmaced and no cars allowed past the halfway point (just for radar station access) so it’s a nice quiet ride.

    Edit. Beaten to it!

Kirkstone pass from Windermere is also a nice long climb. One of the best 100 mile rides I did was windermere to great dun fell over kirkstone on way out and back over shap on way home which is also a longish climb.

‘Scope’, the charity shop have a free will service offer at the moment.

Look on their website or pop into a shop.

I’m guessing they are hoping people will leave them some money in wills.

We had an email about it and have got someone coming over to draw mine and wifes up next week.

Which cycle do you want, eco or standard. I think intensive might kill my gopro.

Actually I’ve noticed the upper arm rotates a lot slower than the lower one, might see if theres a lump of sweetcorn or something stuck in one of the jets
