ah think i’ll maybe sell it then. I’ll stick it on here when i get some pics. Its at my old house in Newcastle though so might be a few weeks before i can post it up. Got Marzocchi marathon S forks on it but i also have some project 2’s as well. Oh and its a 17″ frame i think.

Anyway pics and details will be posted up in a few weeks :-)

Edit – i’ll make a note of anyone on here who’s interested and email details / pics when i get them sorted.

good plan, i’ll do that, especially if it reduces the wind noise. At the moment if i drive round with the windows down it sounds like there’e some little peruvian bloke sitting on the roof playing his pan pipes :-)

how do you mount discs on the old bikes? I’ve got a 97 explosif i fancy doing up but would like to stick discs on if possible (obviously just the rear’s a problem as no caliper mount)

EDIT actually that might not work as i think you need to use your old computer as well :-(

there is a way to do it, i had the same problem last summer and there were some instructions in the help bit on the apple site. You’ll lose all your play lists and song ratings i think. It involves something to do with putting your ipod in disc mode. Have a google around and look on the apple help bit. I’d try find it for you now but in a bit of a rush at work!! I’m sure someone else will post in a bit though

i have tried it (well at the velodrome a few times but not on the road), but couldnt really see any advantage of using it on a commuter bike, especially as its pretty hilly round here. Unless these guys do a lot of track riding as well and like riding fixed all the time or something.

i just leave mine on all the time, but live in a relatively low crime area. To get them off they’d need to force the lock on the carrier, and the locks on both the roof bars. Although they probably arent that difficult to force…

that video looks a bit ‘squashed’ sideway – peoples heads appear a bit long and the helicopter at about 37 seconds seems tall and thin.

Still v impressive, but i wonder if its making stuff look a bit steeper than normal

stick with it, i put one on the road bike. Was pretty sore the first couple of rides but now i can easily do 80-100 mile rides on it no problem.

and why do some rings not fit HT-2 cranksets? I’m getting confused looking at them now :-( Current setup is an XT HT-2 chainset with 4 bolts, but some of the 4 bolt ones on CRC say not compatible with Hollowtech 2 chainsets

god does no one on this site know how to use a toothbrush :P

Project – You’ve got whats called a dry socket, antibiotics will sort it out but if you are still having major probs ring the emergency number there’s probably a clinic on today and you can get a dressing placed in the socket which will give quicker relief. Otherwise as long as you’re fit and well, just painkillers – alternate ibuprofen and co codamol (provided no allergies to these, and no contra indications to either of them eg serious asthma and ibuprofen). Obviously read the packagaing and dont take more than the max dose. You can take ibuprofen and co-codamol together as they work differently and are chemically different. Best take one, then 2-3 hours later take the other. Salty mouthwashes as well (teaspoon salt in some water swill with that round the extraction site). No smoking as thats more likely to cause post op problems.

Mr Nutt – 1000mg is well within the safe daily dose for an adult so yeah ridings fine, but if you’re in serious pain then find the local out of hours emergency number for your dentist / PCT. (usually on the answerphone at the dentist you go to)

The key question is though, have you both been good enough to get a sticker :-)

    junkyard…

I am completely NHS, and we dont exclude the ‘unhealthy’, i was just pointing out some of the problems in the new contract and reasons (given to me by private colleagues) why they went private. Apolgies if i maybe havent explained it well but patient care is usually always high on every dentists list, as no one wants to go see a bad or uncaring dentist.

^^^ we can and do do that although most people will just go for the basic option. A lot of dentists would rather just work with all the latest materials / methods etc all the time as it gives more job satisfaction. They’re the reasons my private dentist colleagues always give me anyway!!!

    Drnick..

BDA is imho a toothless wonder really. I also dont earn anywhere near 100k as all the figures quoted above are before practice overheads, and as i merely work for someone else as an associate (can’t be bothered with the hassle of running my own place) i have to pay 50% of all fees to the owner to cover my nurses, receptionists wages, materials and eqpuipment. So i’m on about 55K here in the lakes, but have a much better quality of life than in the city so i dont mind or i wouldnt have moved here! And i also agree that 55K is still a very good wage.

I was just trying to point out some reasons why some practices have gone private. If you’d been working under the old system and were then offered a new contract which meant your business would suddenly be losing about 20-30k per dentist working there (4+ surgeried not uncommon in a single practice) then its quite a big chunk of profit.

Also another reason is that with the cost of the latest materials, equipment and higher quality lab services (for crowns / dentures etc) then its not always possible to use the latest and best stuff on NHS patients, so some dentists would rather charge more and see fewer patients, but spend more time with each one and use the latest / best materials and techniques to provide a better quality of care.

but the new contract is rubbish and a lot of dentists went private for good common sense business reasons!

    – new contract pay varies accross the country. I moved to cumbria (an area lacking in NHS dentists from newcastle (loads of NHS). Now i get paid £4 per unit of treatment less…. multiply that up by a target of 7000 UDA’s and its a £28k pay cut i took to move to an area with greater dental needs!!
In some areas of the NE dentists were getting £24-£25 per unit… and in some ares of cumbria its as low as £18. Guess which area has fewr NHS dentists?

    – New contract penalises people who look after their teeth as they pay £44 quid for one filling. Yet people who need 10 fillings pay the same. Dentist gets paid the same for one filling as he does for 10 as well, so why would a dentist want to work under the new contract if he’s in an area of high clinical needs. Sometimes after overheads (materials, utilities, staff wages) are factored in we would be better giving the patient a tenner and not even seeing them. Its quite common for me to see patients needing 4 or more half hour appointments…and get paid £60 by the NHS in total for 2 hours work. I always say a fee per item system is fairer as it encourages patients to actually look after their teeth! In the new system we also get patients declining a filling (eg if they just have one thats needed) saying they’ll wait until they need another one as it’ll be the same price!

In answer to the original point about kids dental care though, some PCT’s are not allowing dentists to offer child only NHS contracts. They either have to be full NHS, or none. Its not always the dentists choice, but depends if the PCT will allow them to run a child only NHS contract.

or just buy the seperate tools? 3 hex keys and a jewellers screwdriver. Usually lighter + more compact than a multitool with things you dont need.

although that minoura thing ^^^ looks nice and small!

i find this stuff is good and easy to use (just add the right number of drops / capfuls to your camelbak). Works out quite cheap if you get a big bottle, sometimes on offer at CRC. Does make the water taste v.v.slightly salty…but apparently this depends on the initial composition of your local water so might be worht trying the small pocket bottle first. Anyway hardly any noticeable taste here in the lakes, and TBH i dont mind a v. slight salty taste.

i thought you were a dentist doctornick????

Simba, if you stick your gob near the screen i’ll have a look and give you my professional opinion!

Basicly keep it as clean as possible (like cleaning any food / plaque from around there or in the cavity after you eat anything) and should be ok, but if it starts to get sensitive, or is difficult to keep clean then go see a dentist to stick a temporary in.

Maybe try one of the temp filling kits from the chemists? But the success of those depends on the shape of the cavity – they work best on simple holes on ths biting surface of the tooth. If its a corner of the tooth thats broken it wont work very well.

    another question…

The DVD’s i need to copy are dual layer. When i reburn it from the ISO can i split the ISO from these into 2 single layer DVD’s as they are data and not a film? (would it still install from the discs and just say ‘insert disc 2’ or something at the end of the first one?)
