some mastic stuff i've used in the past doesnt really set firm ( it was some brown stuff, not a silicone sealer). I'm no expert though all i know really is how to fill holes in teeth, and i didnt use sealer for that :D

i have this problem, but at least my feet stay warm. I was wondering if the longer sealskinz ones would be better as they'd be a bit less prone to filling up from splashes from puddles / streams.

ah well i didnt actually buy them for the lakes was just using them up (had 3 of them). They were great where i lived previously. Oddly enough though Wheelbase were reccommending them last time i was in so i was wondereing if anyone else had this trouble or if its just me!

i think its locked to the IMEI of the phone so prob cant share them (i'm sure on the website it says if you change phones you need to get a new activation key so cant see it working on 2 phones without 2 keys). I've just bought the national parks set, its a nice piece of software :-)

mine used to slip but i use a stronger spray glue now – Bostik Fast tack. Works much better than hairspray. Can still get them off with the old squirt WD 40 under them and some twisting

nothing to do with employment, but i once saw an ad in the Keswick Reminder which said:

Firewood for sale. Must have own saw and collect from hedge.

Nice way to get your hedge cut for you and make a profit :D

algore – (i'm assuming you work for Gore? if not then ignore this!)

I love the phantom jacket, but it would be even better with a zip pocket imho (either on the back in one of the existing pockets, or on the front) for keys / money.

i'd just give them a call, you *should* have been given an estimate, and we take payment before the flgs are done, but sometimes when its busy reception can let the odd estimate and charge slip through. Best thing is give them a call, they'll tell you what the charge will be and you wont get any nasty shocks when you go back. But should just be 45.60 unless you are on any benefits.

if its NHS its 45.60 for all fillings. Which is a pain for me sometimes as i have loads of people at the moment needing 5-6 hours worth of treatment… all for 45.60 + the 15 quid the nhs give me to top it up! Swings and roundabouts though as some people only need 20 mins work and pay the same.

Thats the big complaint with the new system… regular attenders with good teeth needing maybe 1 filling pay the same as the 'duh whats a toothbrush' brigade!

doosuk is right as well, if you need further fillings within 2 months eg if another one breaks then its free provided its all in the same treatment band. And all NHS fillings are guruanteed for 12 months.

should have got an estimate NHS or private, if you didnt ring them up and ask how much will cost. If its NHS should be £45.60 for the fillings, if its private its oooh look out the window, see the cars in the car park, think of shiny new bike bits the dentist needs to buy and make up a figure haha

bonded amalgs are basically 'glued in' ie you pack the amalgam onto a very thin layer of self setting bond (adhesive). To be honest its a technique that is more useful / essential on very large fillings as it reduces the need for pins or extra grooves cut into the tooth for mechanical retention of the filling (pins and groves can weaken the tooth and pins will casue stresses in the tooth structure).

So if its a small filling no real need to bond them in, but if you ask your dentist i'm sure he'll be able to sort it out for you if necessary. Although there are some dentists who charge extra for this! Not me as i'm nice and it only takes an extra minute or so to do :-)

Theres also other alternatives to large white flgs you might not be aware of – porcelain or coposite inlays. These are stronger and are made in the lab with better materials, but cost quite a bit more depending on quality (eg the CNC milled or cast ceramics like Lava or Empress)

Hard to give you the best advice on here really as it all depends on the size and position in of the fillings, but PM me if you want more info. Although i'm out riding tonight so might be late by the time i reply!

    coffeeking –

technically a better filling if done correctly and should out-last the amalgam ones, but people rarely do them properly. Metal ones expand and contract more than white ones and tend to cause further damage to the tooth and rely solely on topology (shape) to hold themselves in, whereas the whites bond to your tooth and should form a full seal.

well yes he's right upto a point, the metal ones can *sometimes* cause fractures. (although cause is maybe the wrong word, its more to do with the thickness of the remainig tooth and biting forces rather than expansion / contraction of the metal) However they can be bonded in ( a relatively recent method of doing them) which relies less on the shape of the cavity (and therefore means less weakening of the remaining tooth). As to weather white ones are stronger thats still a well argued point. They still dont have the abrasion resistance or compressive strength of amalgam.

Composite flgs are also very technique sensitive – need to keep perfectly dry while placing them, and have to be cured or set (thats what the blue light does) properley otherwise they are very weak and will not bond properley.

At the end of the day its personal choice but 'in general' large white ones WILL have a shorter life than an amalg (theres a few exceptions to this) and thats why i'd have amalgam unless it was a tiny white filling, and the majority of dental colleagues i know (hospital and general practice based) would also agree.

    hairline crack?

    usually this

Depends really how deep the crack is, might just need the crack filling, or could need all the old filling replaced, or if its really bad a crown. Hard to say without seeing it, but normally we just try the simplest option first (remove / fill the cracked area) then try more invasive / complicated things if that doesnt work.

I'd get it checked out as they can leak and you can end up getting a lot of decay starting sometimes.

Send it to me in the post and i'll have it back for you by the weekend :-)

i'd have amalg fillings on back teeth instead of composites (white ones) and i'm a dentist :-) (and so would nearly all the dentists i know!)

wow! For a 'quick play' that looks brilliant to me!

i'll email you the file if its ok, and sort you out with some beer tokens if you want :D

edit: Actually i just saved the image from here and for what i was going to use it for (its just being added to the photos in my digital photo frame memory) then the resolution of the pic you posted is enough.

Can you pop the pics off the page if its possible? I dont mind having my pic up just not sure if my brothers family might object. Was going to delete the flickr one once i'd had some replies and advice.

    Thanks!!

yeah i just tried cropping it so theres only a bit of strap just left in the corner, and the picture still looks ok. I think i could do something with that and as it wont go across such a big bit of the photo it should look ok even with my amateur skills!

Whats good easy to use software (or do good, easy and cheap not go together?!). Dont mind buying something reasonable as long as its fairly straightforward to learn as theres plenty more photos i can try and improve!

very handy for whinlatter, or if you want natural stuff then lots of things in borrowdale / skiddaw area but i can never remember the exact routes so hopefully someone like SFB will be along in a bit…

He might even have stuff in that area on the bogtrotters website

sounds like great fun then, i'll have a look at the ones mentioned. I'm in the lakes so would probably try and enter one in the midlands or the north if there are any.

How long is a lap then usually? And is there some kind of thing you stick on the bike that lets them count your laps? I assume in a team you can use your own bikes (like not all riding the same bike)

    meeeee
    Free Member

so if you have a team of 4, do you have to do 6 hours non stop then come in and change rider, or can you do 3hours and change (so you'd each do 2 3hr sessions?)

Or is it just upto each team how they divide it up, as long as they keep going for 24 hours?

i paid 100 for a small chip which needed filling, and then 130 for another large scrape over 2 panels which also needed some filling(both chips away). I think its about 100 minimum with chips away.

    Perfect results both times though.

Try halfords as well, they do it i think

chips away handy though as they came to my work

i think shops which offer 0% for 12 months or more should mayube offer some discount to people who pay the whole lot in one go?

I mean the finance will cost the shop something so if you dont go down that route then a discount wouldnt be unreasonable? Or even vouchers to spend on other items in the shop.

    meeeee
    Free Member

but using that arguement about the corner shop above, why do people always haggle money off cars then? I mean if you pay full retail for a car people woulf then think you were some kind of mug?!

I think people just like a discount when buting expensive items eg high end bikes, cars etc but no one would expect money off cheap things like groceries

would gaiters help? i was thinking of trying some for this winter to stop water coming over the top of my boots so much.

    something like this…

    http://secure.lakesrunner.com/welcome-to-lakes-runner-online/running-accessories/raidlight-mini-running-gaiter-p-9448.html

although not actually gone into the shop to look at any yet so no idea if they'd be suitable!

depends on if you know exactly what you want or need advice.

If you know what you're after then just google as different shops often have special offers on. Field and trek have some climbing stuff in sale at moment but quite a limited choice, lots of other shops often have offers or deals on eg Rock and Run, V12, joe browns, Climbers shop, lakes climber, Needlesports.

If you need advice on choosing then one of the best places (imho) is needlesports

DMM prowire quickdraws good value at needlesports, if its 50m single rope you're after then Beal edlinger 2 at needlesports (good starter rope, handles nicely) . For half ropes i like the Beal Cobra 8.6, handles really well. Cheapest place i think after a quick google for a cobra is Facewest. Some people swear by mammut ropes though. Plenty of choice. Good starting site for info is Needlesports

no the teslas a white light, bit less blue than some of the LED's around, but definately not yellowy.

I was undecided like you are as well and i actually ordered a wilma and a tesla from the shop and returned the wilma onced i'd fired it up as it didnt seem that much better for the extra cash

    meeeee
    Free Member

i've got a tesla and its great, nice spread with good long distance throw as well. Doesnt have as many fancy features as the wilma like the remote switch and programmable power modes etc but its nice and simple which is what i wanted. Wilmas are good too but tesla seemed better value (i paid £218 last year)

I think i'd get a tesla over a wilma again if i had to choose.

Only thing is… theres a Deal extreme light (DX light i think) which is basically a tesla copy for £50, although not sure about long term durability. Might be worth looking at.

Where are you if you're near me (lakes) can have a look and a demo of mine.

WIlmas are upgradeable, tresla isnt, but dont think i'd be bothered about upgrading anyway as i have enough light with the tesla, and also lupine upgrades (for the wilma) are still £££

CO2 inflator works well, although if you are using stans it can (apparently) cause the sealant to go off quicker, so seat the tyre, deflate, add sealant through the valve and then pump up notmally (will be easy now as bead will still be locked in the rim)
