Niterider Sabre[/url] Has been with me for over 2 years now. Very light, very powerful, charges quickly, string bracket and despite “few” no-mudguards wet rides it has never let me down.

If it’s not on Strava – it didn’t happen.

I love every single issue. Quality writing, very inspiring stuff. None of the “how to ride” and “the best riding shorts” nonsense.

That horrible feeling of water starting coming down into the gloves after the jacket’s sleeves finally gave up… 8O

Last night I tested Sealskinz Ultragrip GAUNTLET version, in pretty much very horrible weather (strong winds and horizontal rain). The ride lasted about 2 hours, I was absolutely soaking wet except for my torso (good jacket) and my hands! The longer “sleeve” on these gloves do make a difference. Pain in the **s to put them on though…

Thank you! Now all I have to do is clean the bike…

I started running in my local woods a week and a half ago. I love it to bits! It’s mainly night running at the moment, with just one nice daylight outing last Sunday.

    I even entered a 5k trail race tomorrow night… 8O

It is pretty nice feature! My daughter likes it too – it add a fun factor to the walks, when she checks if we are following the arrows.

Another really lovely loop is in a bit different part of Dartmoor – starting in Dunsford, Bridford Wood, then it takes you to Castle Drogo area and back. It includes one of the hardest off-road climbs around – Fingle Bridge bridleway! Really nice route, let me know if you want GPX file.

I’ve done it in wet and it was wet, but rideable.

In the summer it’s just unbelievably awesome!!!

    Trail or fell?

At the moment just my local woods, which are my MTB trails (plenty of good singletracks, roots, rocks and steep ups and downs). And mainly night running at the moment ;-)

If I get a bit more confident running down the steep bits I’ll give a fell running a try!

I’ve gone through two sets of Sealskinz Ultra Grip (the first one was left on the car’s roof after all the kit was packed after a ride on Dartmoor…) and they are good for a while.
When it rains heavily you’ll very quickly find out that the bottoms of the sleeves on your jacket give up – the gloves start filling up with water…

I recently bought the “gauntlet” version and it removes that problem perfectly!

EDIT: totally not recommended for riding on a trails with thorny brambles!

The only working solution for MTB: Crudcatcher on downtube, Mudhugger on the fork (or some motocross-type front mudguard mounted under the crownrace) and Sealskinz knee-length socks – I tried it yesterday at Haldon, where most of the blue trail was an ankle-deep stream. Great results!

Put them to the washing machine for a quick spin, then let them dry overnight.

I’ve got a set, accompanying with a down-tube mounted crud-catcher. Has been a strong bit of kit! The front one has been with me 2 years, the rear 1. The only modification required was to the front one, to make it fit onto a reversed arch fork (Stanley knife to cut new slots and Gorilla tape to cover the original ones). They change your bike to something pretty ugly, but at the same time change your mud riding experience to something very pleasant!

The only issue is that because they are close to the tyres they like to catch twigs, making your bike sound like a motorcycle.

could just trundle out towards the coast as far as you fancy enjoying the view

This actually sounds quite good! I remember last time I was there in the Summer I though about doing it one day – so here it came! 8)

    Thanks for the advice!

I got a pair from Superstars, Switch Ultra hubs laced on Alexrims Evo Super Comp rims, in 29er flavour. Very solid wheels (only issue I had was with a rear axle adapter breaking, but it was due to a faulty spacer – a sharp edge was working through the material…), flawless tubeless set up and the weight: 1575 grams!

    I paid £160 on sale.

The merino baselayer looks almost identical to my Endura Baabaa, for which I paid way over £30 few years ago. And it feels very nice! For £15 it’s a bargain!

Thanks guys! I’ve just got that idea which will make me a millionaire soon!!!

Expect a NEXT BIG THING that will revolutionise cycling: be it MTB or road.

Reverb-like cranks… You can reduce the lengths down to 40mm – this allows you to ride in the middle of the ruts that were previously rideable only in a “balance-bike style”, or extend it to 250mm to ride up the vertical walls!!!

    Kickstarter link to follow! :D

After seeing a group of elderly roadies Sunday in a cafe all in Lycra, I’m thinking perhaps looser-fitting overshorts should be a legal requirement in public

I can’t agree more with this!!!

And I do as chakaping said – wait for a PSA here and buy some quality shorts for £25!

I’d already dismissed Quadlocks as the solution medoramas. Thanks tho’

I suggested it only because I recently acquired one and I have not used my old Garmin ever since!

Is there a good budget bike light that does not have an external battery pack?

NiteRider Lumina 750 – it’s not just decent, it is very, very good! Pair that with a Lumina 400 on the helmet (the helmet bracket comes in the box with the 750, but not with 400!) and you’ve got a properly reliable and powerful setup for Winter for very little money (in a good light’s world)!

For solo riding the LOW settings on both is sufficient for 95% of fast XC riding. Goes up to MED on scary stuff.

I can’t understand some people in the office moaning how bloody tiring their job is – to make some phone calls, send few emails, scan some documents… All that in air conditioning environment, with nice comfy chairs, unlimited tea/coffee breaks, etc…

I use these plastic adapters too, for family rides – can’t fault them.

My wife signed up to one of those properly controlled diet/exercise systems. She makes her own meals based on very strict ingredients lists, quite often very ridiculous – the amount of butter in some of them would kill me in a day! No salt, no sugar. On-line meetings once a fortnight. She has lost over 3 stones in 2 months, I kid you not!

I posted similar question some time ago, but this was regarding their Aspen tyres, eXCeption series. And I had no luck with it, even with a compressor and with a “tubeless-experienced” friend’s help. Tried the innertube trick, all the tricks with the tyre lever… It just didn’t work.

Got the TR Crossmark and it went up straight away, with a track pump – even without any attempt of pre-seating the bead! (it was the same wheel!) So from my experience it is worth to pay a bit more for TR rubber, to avoid disappointment and money wasting.

Isn’t walking faster than using a 22:36 anyway?

I don’t think it is actually! For example one part of the annual MTB event is South Devon “Devon Dirt” goes up a pretty long and steep climb called Lenda Lane – I normally ride it up on 22:36 and overtake the walking co-riders quite significantly.

Sometimes that “one cog” is a difference between riding up or walking… On yesterdays ride I had a couple of climbs (loose gravel/rocks), where my thumb was trying to “shift up just one more… please….” despite being on the 22/36 already

What about a good old Crossmark 2.25″?

I started using the TR EXO versions recently. I’m not an aggressive rider, but after being able to ride up a very steep rocky climb just after rain, I realised they must be good for wet rocks! Previously trying to ride up the same wet climb on 2.1″ Aspen was never successful.

(must say.. haldon, although the trails are a bit tame in some ways has very good loo’s, cafe and if you don’t have change you can pay in the rangers office)

And if you don’t pay for whatever reason and someone checks the tickets, you’ll get a polite notice to pay £4 within two weeks! That’s the parking services on the top level 8)
