Don’t worry, guys! The summer is coming back shortly, as I’ve just fitted mudguards on my bike this morning!

I wonder how would today’s Average Joe on modern XC machine perform if transported in time and place into this race…

Update: After reporting to the council (using their website tool) a woman rang me within an hour asking the exact location and she said they’d investigate this straight away!

I hope they will fine this fella.

I fitted the Ergon grips over 2 years ago and never looked back! Very comfy, solid grip and support. Wrist pain eliminated.

And they were tested on Dunkery Beacon descent on fully rigid 29er – I overtook my friend riding 100mm hard tail (it doesn’t matter he had old school 26er with v-brakes, does it?)! ;-)

Haldon is great, even the main tracks – but the best accessed early in the morning or after 4PM. Otherwise it can get very congested. Especially the Blue run – for some reason the Red is always pretty empty (too hard for beginners and too “tame” for STWers ;-)  ?).

If using the car park in the evening you don’t need to worry about being locked up, as the exit is available 24h (alligator teeth type gate).

Also, does anyone actually run Shimano wheels? I’ve never seen any in the wild, ever.

I do… XT M8000. Vast improvement over Superstar Ultra hubs, where rear axle was snapping 4 times a year!

You’re not doing it no-handed, are you?

Well, you better check what SRAM means in Polish……..

FFS… I trusted you, guys… But you didn’t say that this massive muddy puddle just after a sharp blind corner after the rocky downhill bit in the woods that I hadn’t ridden for a while (due to that bloody puddle…) is still there nice and strong!

2 seconds and the bike looks like after a proper winter ride…

Front Mudhugger on all year round – I took it off for a while a week ago (it was very dry and dusty) but then I realise how much stuff it stops from getting into your eyes, so put it back on.

The rear one is off, but for the occasional rainy commute/ride in the Summer time I bought the 29er version of Crud’s RacePac – currently half price on Wiggle. Very easy to fit and remove when needed. I put it on this morning.

I recently bought Specialized Henge Comp. Very comfy, good looking and cheap.

I used it a lot on a fully rigid, riding fast over some long, rocky bridleways – I think it was more likely that my eyes would pop out from my head than the phone un-mounting itself from the Quadlock.

I’ve got a window just behind me – luckily I had to shut the blinds down, as I couldn’t see what’s on the screen due to that horrible sunshine glare!

Just to make things more interesting… Plugging it in Chromebook – the rides are there!!! But not in the “activities” folder, but the main one…

Connecting to the PC – no rides visible!

EDIT: FIXED!!! I deleted the “activities” folder from Garmin. It then created a new one (the same name) but it works now! I copied some old FIT files onto it and I can see them under “history”.

I removed the Mudhugger and downtube Crud Catcher yesterday.

    It’s raining now, FFS…

Go for a proper muddy ride, so the whole drivetrain is caked with mud. Leave overnight. Clean the bike. Voilà!

This has nothing to do with rights of way, or the right to ride a bike there, so why raise the issue?

I started it as a joke, which seemed to be not understood (that someone wants you to go back riding on the footpath)… ;-)

As a solution would some printed and laminated signage on the all entrances to the woods with a message like this work?

“Beware of nail traps! An individual has been spotted planting dangerous objects on the trails. He has been photographed and identified by the police, who are currently working on the matter”

    A bit of an update…

I did not do exactly what doncorleoni said, but something slightly similar: I released most of the air from the fork (so it reached about 50% sag under its own weight), then I put the bike upside down and pumped the fork few times. I could hear the oil and air getting mental inside, then I put the bike up, inflated the fork, pumped it down few times and… The problem seem to be gone!

However now when the fork is locked (with me sitting on it) the uppers slide into the lowers about 4 mm (previously there was no movement at all), but from there it is a “concrete lockout”. And no “loose headset” sensation. I’ll test it off road tonight! But this is brazzers… I mean bizarre!!!

So does it mean that MTB’king has been officially allowed on the footpaths???

I think the Mudhuggers have grown into the frame/fork on my bike already…

chiefgrooveguru it is a bit of both I’d say, but very likely that the lateral movement is just an illusion. It also happens when the wheel is turned 90° and the bike is being rocked: looking closely on the seals I can see the upper slide in that small distance. And the clunk appears at the end of the extension phase of the movement.

When riding off road none of the clunk can be felt, it’s only on the full extension, as mentioned earlier. And because the fork closes to “proper-concrete-solid-rigid” when braking on my mainly road commute I can experience that a lot…

    It’s annoying!

I’ve got the XT wheels and no tape needed. It was already on, with the valve.

I am a fan of riding with<span style=”font-size: 12.8px;”> rucksack/camelbak. The tools are always there and I like the idea of drinking water without the grinding mud paste in my mouth… Plus the </span>convenience<span style=”font-size: 12.8px;”> of having everything I need for a ride always ready despite what bike I fancy shredding! *</span>

    * it doesn’t matter I only have one bike and my “shredding” is most people bimble-pace

An hour drive down over Exeter you’ve got Haldon Forest too. The official trials are weatherproof.

I was there very early and just when I finished my riding session the Cotic tent was up and ready. I stopped quickly just to have a look on the bikes and have a quick chat with the guy – very friendly fella! Lovely bikes. I shouldn’t have stopped there really – I used to think I’m pretty happy with my current bike…

I bought these two weeks ago. Lovely wheels, all sealed up for tubeless, with valves already on. https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/shimano-xt-wh-m8000-29-disc-qr-qr-xc-wheelset-655861

Those black Marvels from CRC/Wiggle are lovely forks!!! I was tempted to buy the external bottom headset and tapered Rebas for my bike recently, but then I saw the Marvel with 1 1/8″ steerer and bought them instead. Absolutely amazing forks!

I used to have Marvel in 100mm flavour on the same bike, switched later to rigid… The new ones are 120mm, convertible to 100mm – but I reckon I’ll keep them as they are, as it feels great. Plus they look fantastic!

Thanks guys! Of course I meant “torx” while typing “hex” ;)

    <span style=”color: #444444; font-size: 12px;”> If you’re near SR8 you’re welcome to pop round for a cuppa – thanks! But that’s about 6-7 hours drive from South Devon I suppose?</span>

I’ll try an over-sized torx and see where is that going…

Mudhugger, Stanley knife and a strip of black tape: cut the new slots so they sit under the fork’s arch, cover the old ones with the tape and there you go!

Horrible things they are! Get normal cleats and set the tension to minimum – this will give you 100 times more control and assurance than the multi-release ones with tension to the max…

My Maxxis tyres do this when inflated using CO2 inflator – it’s good for setting them up, but then deflation and trackpump-action solves the problem. The bike hasn’t been used for the last 10 days (but I did some trail running, I swear!) and the pressure hasn’t changed – I checked it last night.

I’m considering getting one to clean the bikes and I’m wondering if I put hot water in after, if I can use it to wash my hair?

If you need to pressure wash your hair…

But to be serious: the “watering” setting would be very good for this, but it would be quite awkward to actually do it – the unit, even without the extender, is quite chunky (think AK47 8) ) and it requires 2 fingers to start it (there is a simple lock mechanism).
