    Also Shimano chains are crap

    when you don’t follow this:

you can’t rejoin those with the pins already in the chain, you have to use a new black pin which is slightly bigger.

Commuting by bike can be dreadful in the winter – we all know that (but the REAL MEN do it anyway!).

But now, everyday I go through the woods on my way to work I am the happiest man on the planet! Birds singing, woodpeckers woodpecking, dog walkers don’t give a damn s*it where their dogs are… Oh, wait – delete the last one!

How to find out if it’s dry without going out?

Look at the number of “Uh! Oh! You lost your KOM!” notifications recieved…

    The job’s done.

No tools other than 5mm allen key. And helluva elbow grease – that loctite they used was like concrete!

I checked the bolts and nuts and I think that Shimano changed the design or something – having any tool for them would be absolutely useless, as there is no recess to engage it! Instead the nuts have got two little anchors that fit in the slots on the chainring – this keeps them in place. Have I discovered America? :D

    gun?

    Angle grinder.

Some useful advice here, as usual!

Thanks guys! I replaced the big chainring some time ago – just an allen key did the job – I didn’t even have to remove the crankset! But I expect some problems with the middle one… Cheers! :D

It’s CrossMARK by Maxxis, not CrossMAX by MAvic, buddy

Crossmarks front and rear – when it’s dry this is the best set I’ve tried. Fast, grippy and… Did I say “fast” already? 8)

Few pics of what they planning for the next Nat XC race Newnham, Devon.
Always a good course down there!

I wonder if they’re gonna keep these features for the Bont 24-7

I hate crosswinds. As much as the headwinds can make you cry – they are more less predictable. No such a thing with x-ones…

That’s because Ikon’s are not for mud riding! 8)

…This makes the ball of your foot go cold…

Isn’t that desirable in “summer shoes”?

I’ve had some Shimano’s, Nike’s and now I’ve been using Mavic Pulse (for almost 2 years now) – very comfy and well ventilated shoes.

I have no showers facilities, not even a decent changing room – so I had to work out what works best.

To keep you smelling fresh: buy one of these “trekking towels” and a pack of baby wipes. Quick and easy. Muc-Off Dry Shower, or something like that is great too, but more expensive.

To keep clothes fresh: 1. no cotton, 2. hang them somewhere during the day.

I hang all my stuff in the corner of the company’s warehouse. Keeping good relationship with the warehouse keeper is the key! 8)

NEVER leave anything rolled up and locked up.

I used to have LX, with the “servo wave” levers. Man, it was powerful!

That was my tool of choice the other day, when removing seized centerlock rotor…

I like my Lezyne MiniDrive XL on the helmet. Stick the extra battery in your pocket/camelback and you’ve got pretty long time to play in the dark!

I slow down and assume something is about to jump out and kill me.

    +1.

Occasionally I do some stupid stuff, then I’m thinking how the hell did I went intact and how bloody stupid I was… But that’s the lessons.

I’ve got the Halfords one. Bombproof.

The only glitch is that in order to screw the hose properly onto the valve I need to turn the whole pump – not just the hose… 8)

That Topeak one mentioned by jsyng has been working good for me for the last 10 months. “Cheap and cheerful” option, but pretty damn good for the money! I paid £13 in Halfords.

What you need to do is get a KOM on a trail that has the trees harvested on it soon after and no longer exists, unbeatable KOM

Or pray for a massive tree to fall down right on the entrance, so the only way onto the track is by crawling under – I’m still proudly holding the crown

OS Mapfinder seems pretty good too – I purchased 3 tiles around the neighborhood, each tile is 10km x 10km. I find the app a bit easier to navigate than View Ranger, but that is very personal thing.

It’s all fixed now! Further investigation led me to a conclusion that my reckoning about the cause of the failure was right…

Anyway, now I’ve got 180mm on the back. The same model, but bigger. I put 1.5mm washer under the caliper, carefully matching the pads contact area with the disc. It’s spot on. And the brake works so much different! No fade at all, even on the steep bits where previously there was no brake at all (just the burning smell…). I’m well chuffed now!

I just need to re-learn applying the rear brake, as it’s quite easy to lock the wheel now…

Not to mention how much more careful I am now with applying the lube and other “bike cosmetics”…
