Yeah that’s whats drawing me towards the Smith’s as you can change the lenses on those…. I don’t think the Oakley lenses quality can be beaten though and i’m not sure if Smith’s will come close.

Front mech size is 31.8 🙂

Good to know you can fit a 42mm tyre in!

Cheers, may give one of these fabric tool keg’s a go then – stick some water in it to start maybe!

Very nice, got there in the end – liking the drop bars/shiny bits. Mines going strong still after a couple of months commuting. I’ve put some 32mm conti road tyres which made quite a difference 🙂 Enjoy!

Well, I think i had zero punctures with the GP4000’s so not needing any extra protection as long as the 5000s are at least as good.

Any other benefits of going tubeless?

Its a trek ALR which will run upto 28mm I think

I’ve done a stupid thing, just realised that i’m away that night…. so I now have 3x tickets going for the Leeds date (next wednesday 29th May) if anyone is interested – decent seats. Annoyed as it sounds like it would be interesting.

Cheers for that, i’ve ordered the 9 speed deore shifters…. i’m pretty sure they’ll work with an acera 9 speed rear mech? 🙂

Ate about 100 of them last night at footy!

I think it will be ok for a 40 – I have the SL with 35/37 and there’s still quite a bit of clearance.

Thanks, we have decided to split our time between sorrento and priano as they seem well positioned and have some reasonably priced accommodation.

Now need to work on the idea of cycling up mt Vesuvius !

This turned out to be a limited edition bolt in Blue and Pink so no new roam yet :/

I’ve never tried Tiagra Hydro but I have a Grail AL 7.0 with the 105 and its been great.

I think either would be fine for a commuter bike. Bigger question is which colour are you going to choose? I went with silver.

If you want to know anything else let me know. I’m 179cm and went with a size small.

Cheers, think i’m gonna take the plunge and give it a go as it is with one of those chain devices.

I’m not sure where to get these cheaper bolts though and which ones I might need – any ideas? 😀

There is a new wahoo device (with coloured mapping apparently) being revealed at sea otter tomorrow, might be worth holding off on the purchase

Ha yeah good shout – I don’t think its the derailler I think its the shifter which is a triple and has hydro levers built in so wanted to keep them.

Cheers – the superstar chain rings look good but £30 – I was hoping to do this on the cheap.

Is there any kind of chain catcher type thing to stop the chain dropping on a standard ring?

Ok cheers. How do I check if the BB is knackered then? could I have over tightened something? It was pretty much brand new

    meandyuk
    Full Member

No, it seems like a good fit and there isn’t any rocking. the BB is a 68 BSA.
I did notice that the left side crank didn’t fit onto the right side spindle as much as I thought but still fine I think

Ordered a jersey – hope the sizing doesn’t come up big as I was inbetween sizes 🙂

I went with the prime race road wheelset – they seemed to get good reviews overall and were mentioned as suitable for CX too so hoping they will be sturdy/well built/tough enough to last.

    Cheers for the help.

I’d have a set of RS81’s for £200 ! I had some of the RS80’s and they were great but sold them on.

I’m inbetween the Cero AR24 evo and the prime race sets – I can get the prime race for £200 today with the discount on Wiggle but can’t decide!

Great yeah the pizza rack looks just the job – it’ll be onto px carbon forks though, i think it’ll be fine? as long as i’m not giving anyone a lift on the front 🙂

“I’m guessing your current fork doesn’t have a forward-facing crown mount, or bosses on the legs, or forward-facing eyelets at the dropouts. In which case you’re going to struggle, I think.”

I think it does have all of those mounts. I’ll check out those suggestions – cheers

Yeah it does look good but its all the frame really, there are some pretty naff bits on it 😉

I’m sure it was saying £16.99 pm yesterday, £11.99 is a but more reasonable so i’ll give that a go.

Same. Got one as I can but now worried i’m going to introduce a load of confusion!!

Anyone know how they compare to Alexa?

    meandyuk

Ah right ok. It was from ‘dealer manual’ for the shifters I have, they are crappy Alivio M4000 shifter/brake lever combo jobbies. Looking to run the deore calipers with them as i’m pretty sure the alivio ones are leaking.

@simondbarnes: thanks, its the gold ones I have but without the ‘groove’ on the head of the connector…

    meandyuk
    Full Member

Thanks, I wondered if I could just use the same ones but thought best to go with the new ones – i’m not 100% its the calipers leaking.

I need to shorten the length of the hoses for a new build, still ok to use the existing ones & connectors? (I don’t know if they wear – that might be a silly question !)

Finally decided on a full monty sl frame and now the 15% code doesn’t work so over budget! ar*e 🙂

Anyone actually ridden both of these and can give a comparison on how they ride? I’m looking to build up a new commuter so I think I should go with the LR frame as i’ll be on road mainly. Problem is I keep getting drawn to the red colour on the FM 🙂

    Cheers

What did you go for? trying to decide myself…. which one is more ‘aggressive’ or more like a road bike??

    meandyuk

I thought they look very similar. I’m also weary on the QC on them and like you say there doesn’t seem to be many around despite being available for a while I believe.
