Thanks, I might give those a go – I was hoping for something a bit nearer to Leeds itself as I only live 3 miles out (north)

Ah, anyone awaiting the outcome of this thrilling episode will be interested to know that a new cassette has fixed all my chain slipping problems.

    Thanks for the help,
    Andy

Thanks, i'll look to get a new cassette then! I bought some new tacx jockey wheels too which don't have any float… that perhaps doesnt help either.

Right, I didn't think the cassette wasn't too bad but its done a fair few miles. It's an ultegra 12-27, how can I tell if it's worn??

The chain was never replaced and was pretty stretched!!

Thanks TheSwede – ironically it didn't slip before I 'upgraded'. The cassette looks ok(although its a 12-27?), chain is a new durace one. Freehub is fine I think as its just certain gears. Whats the wrap around on mech adjusted?? the top screw yes?

    Thanks

Cheers – the ones on chain reaction are the same as on it now – I quite fancy the new looking one + the BB that comes with is the external type I think so should be easier to maintain.

We stayed at the Traquair Arms when doing the coast & castles ride (newcastle to edinburgh). Nice place, good food & had decent bike storage around the back… seemed to be quite a few mtber's in.

haha the lawn mower came 2nd place to new bikes for the last spot in the shed so now doesnt work! The bars are syntace vector 2014 & they are a crazy 700mm wide. I've got a flat bar coming.

& I never said I was an XC snake! hence the flats.. i'm still a wannabe!! any skills courses going in the Leeds area? 🙂

Tried for ages to get the pistons pushed it but they didnt go back very far. It's like the pads are too thick! i've managed to get it so they are only rubbing now and again – i'm hoping after a bit of wear the prob will go away 🙂

    Cheers for the help

"set the caliper in the right position visually, making sure there is an even gap between the rotor and pad on both sides"

Cheers spock – how do you do the above though? gently press the brake lever?

Cheers, I've tried the map on the cube website but it appears out-of-date.

I've emailed a couple of those (thebiketree & velocity) to see if they stock what i'm after.

    Thanks

Cheers, i'm getting mixed messages about the fox forks – some say they are simple to use maintain & others claim that they wear out quickly and need sending away for a service regularly (which I can't be arsded with!). Perhaps I need to go on some bike maintenance course, i'm a bit scared of serviced my own forks at the mo!

    Cheers for the help.

What about maintenance on the fox forks? is it easier or hard than the reba???

    meandyuk

I thought you might say that!! I'm thinking that I wouldn't do the Pro justice though to be honest. I'm still thinking the comp!! I don't want to have all the gear and no idea 🙂

Yeah, i'm happy with the ams comp spec (tbh any better is wasted on me!), the only doubt might be the hayes stroker brakes which ive heard are very all or nothing..

Yeah i'm going to do a good check before it goes anywhere – although from the sounds of it all the major bits are pre-fitted by Boardman. How bad can it be when I get it? 🙂

Great, thanks – i've been to the killingbeck one and they seemed OK so i'll order from there.

Not often but I have a couple of times this year, luckily the bike I have at the moment seems to have quite a tough alloy frame

The wearing issue annoys me about the Keo cleats too, and replacements are like £16 for a couple of bits of plastic! I'm thinking of changing pedal because of it, does anyone know of a roadie pedal that takes metal cleats or stronger plastic that will last longer?

It's true, and annoys me alot! if people commuted by bike more then the roads wouldn't be so busy with angry drivers in the morning, and it'd feel a whole lot safer for cyclists!!
