those bikes aren’t stolen, are they….

That’s what his new “Bike business” is – stealing them, mixing up all the components at random then a quick lick of blackboard paint – job’s a good ‘un innit!

Rocker & chainstays measured in furlongs – still, not bad looking

I tend to do it at every set of lights I encounter on the commute to & from work, standing up, sitting down, one handed scratching my barse – then I tried doing it with the “other” foot leading out of curiosity & had to dismount rather sharpish… i was so upset I haven’t attempted it again since.

Fleetwodd Mac have announced some extra dates FYI

Cheers for the heads up on that – I think… oh well, at least the missus is happy about the state of my bank balance :|

nbt – report the ebay ads & they’ll be removed, they don’t allow selling tickets anymore, hence they started stubhub (anything to make it harder for them…)

Yep – that’s pretty much it, vast quantities of the available tickets (many in the better areas) are never released to the public at face value but instead sold as “premium” seats through the same official channels that handle the “normal” tickets – Ticketmaster “platinum” is one such example, then there are other resellers that handle big quantities of tickets for all kinds of gigs & get a guaranteed cut of the more popular events which they obviously hump up the price of considerably… that’s even before you get to “tout level” with folk setting up multiple accounts on multiple windows & mashing refresh furiously like everyone else! It’s a pretty shite state of affairs in general & puts me off even considering going to many gigs in the first place.

One point of note however, with the general increase in face value on tickets – there’s often a ton of tickets left unsold nearer the date as greedy bastards try & triple their money on average seats. If there’s anything you really want to see, set up a stubhub alert – sometimes ordinary folk genuinely can’t make it & advertise the tickets for reasonable prices just to get their money back…

I have 2 pairs of their hubs built into wheels for my disc braked road commuter (1 pair were on the original wheelset as I later discovered & another pair I built myself) – 1 rear has had the freehub bearings replaced (by me – £3.50) after ~2500 miles in all weathers & the other pair are nearer 3500 miles of the same treatment with nary a grumble from anywhere, cheap / light(ish) / reliable – pick 3!

Depending on what model you’re after, sdeals had some in stock for not much cash last time I looked – failing that ebay usually turns up a bargain or 2 from far east suppliers, I got a pair of 711/712 for around £70 a year or so ago, around 400g for the pair.

As mentioned up there ^ the Tune hotels are decent & pretty cheap – stayed in the one at Liverpool St. & Kings Cross – Liverpool St. one has a great location.

For food – as above + loads of restaurants take the Taste Card, you can usually get a free month trial on their website which gets 50% off food in many places.

This thread has cracked me up – i’ve left a few dead otters in the work bogs the dimensions of 2 pint cans of lager stacked one on top of the other which have been spoken angrily about by my colleagues, so pwoud.

Best one ever was in Dubai airport after drinking/eating nowt but cheap cocktails & seafood for a full week at the end of a trip to Sri Lanka with nary a pebble to be seen – I was getting my money’s worth from the expensive aftershave testers in duty free when I experienced several tear jerking “contractions” & had to sprint – top speed – to the bogs where I unloaded what can only be described a “Big Innes” – it felt like I was being hollowed out, I have never experienced anything like it nor do I ever hope to again (unless I have a camera to hand) – it was almost level with the seat & looked a bit like Gandalf’s staff. Tried to flush it half a dozen times & it wobbled back & forth waving a me a bit then stood firm – the bogs were spotless & totally empty so I waited until the cleaner was busying himself sweeping up at the opposite end of the bogs then made a run for it (washed hands – didn’t dry) as I couldn’t bring myself to look him in the eye as I walked past… again, most pwoud.

    For reference, “Big Innes”

In April I moved house & went from a 9 mile each way commute to 18 miles each way & I found the decent weather this year helped massively. I started only cycling it on nice sunny days then, sooner than expected, it became habit – now I only avoid the really shitty weather & usually average 3 days per week.

Planning ahead is key – especially if you’re starting out early – decide on a couple of days when the weather looks dry & try to stick to that, few times I really could not be arsed when I got out of bed & then half an hour later sitting in the car, stuck in a traffic jam with the sun starting to appear I was cursing myself!

As mentioned previously – if you make a start at this time of year & persevere, come the spring you’ll be out the door like a greased whippet every morning… and think of all the extra calories you’ll need – there’s plenty in beer i’m assured.

I’ve got a DHX 5 coil on mine & think it’s great – really plush & with the propedal on full it doesn’t bob too much when pedalling (not that I take on too many steep techy climbs to be fair though!), can’t really compare it to anything else though as i’ve never had an air shock on there. I recall reading through a massive Heckler thread on one of the US forums & the general consensus seemed to be the DHX coil was one of the best options with the DHX Air popular too – that was a few years ago though so there may be more up to date options depending on priorities – weight v price v plush etc. etc.

Hopefully he got round safe – I only noticed him at first as he was pretty much sprinting up the hill out of the saddle, good effort that man!

I was down at Glentress yesterday & could have sworn I seen someone (with a race number) whose bike appeared to be held together by the shock linkage as the top tube & part of the seat tube appeared to have snapped clean off 8O anyone any ideas?

I had stopped near the red route detour round spooky woods & saw someone cycling towards me with a seat post & saddle hanging out of their backpack, thought it was maybe a bent post but when they went past I could have sworn the top tube was flapping in the breeze… normally I would have put it down to hallucinations but my mate swore he seen it too – curious how long it was rideable like this & if any balls were torn off if/when it went.

Dromarti are lovely – I picked up a barely-used pair cheap on ebay a while back (badly described & awful photos – bonus) – best made shoes I own embarassingly enough, the leather is about half an inch thick (ok not quite but you get the idea) Seem to recall they went up in price recently from £170-ish to north of £200 8O

Forgot about those Vittorias – they are v-nice too!

There’s a pic in the hallway of Roy Rodgers & Trigger the horse in there – if they don’t let you in with a bike i’d start shouting… or smuggle it in semi dismantled in a big random bag.

There are elevated bike rack things in the station itself – not sure about bike lockers but I wouldn’t fancy leaving anything of value there just in case, probably would be fine though – they’re tucked away from the main area at the last platform.
