I really like the slug idea – i mean, how did that slug get all the way up there? It’s not impossible, but certainly improbable – especially as he’s brought half a mouldy cabbage with him :?

Set them on fire, then call the fire brigade 8)

Or every time you exit your flat, hoof them all down the stairs.

No need for cupping, our local boil sucker can do just as good a job.

Depends on how vaguely you pronounce “boil”

That probably would cure all but the very worst bout of 48hr cat aids mind you.

Cheers folks – I was thinking black originally but I do like the silver thomson stuff…

I’ve got a spare black headset I can use too, so that’s another incentive I guess – I’ll settle for silver bars

DezB – we’ve got one of those from Ikea in the spare room, it’s brilliant – dunno how it would fare longevity wise if in constant use, but every person who’s passed out drunk on it says it’s great :-)

As above, go & lie down in a lot of bed shops – we did this last year & ended up with one of these: zzzzzzzzzzzz might not suit everyone but it was the only one me & the missus both agreed felt substantially better to lie on than anything else we tried without going tonto price wise, it’s pocket sprung & has a memory foam layer on top which feels amazing. We got put off the 100% memory foam ones by loads of stories of folk finding them unbearably hot as many don’t breathe very well apparently.

Once you find something you like shop around online – we got ours for just over half the rrp I think.

Wish I was back in bed just now. It’s awesome.

Sorry for the thread hijack – we’ve also just been hit with a couple of quotes for installation that were pretty steep, before we abandon it does anyone know of a reasonably priced fitter in the WOS/Renfrewshire area? (no chimney, so need around 8m+ twin-wall flue & assorted fittings…)

Got a beauty on deliverance at GT culminating in 3 destroyed tubes & a ruined afternoon – the initial jaggy rock burst the tube then the resusltant 30m or so of ploughing through subsequent jaggy rocks before I managed to stop turned the inner tube into streamers. Then I couldn’t get the shitting tyre off (Rocket ron), snapping my 2 tyre levers in the process, then I burst the new tube (twice) with the flat screwdriver on my multitool trying to get it back on. Then my pump broke. Then I tried the spare spare tube that had been lying at the bottom of my bag for ages & flagged down a passing chap for a shot of his pump (broke one of his tyre levers too in fact!) only to discover i’d nicked that one getting it back on too…

I always loved the Klein Mantras too – just sold mine last year after not riding it for the previous 5, was “a bit of a handful” on anything other than light xc… looked good though

I ran the Kenda SB8 on my Charge Filter for a while – really good on road & enough tread for dry-ish off road stuff, pretty light too in 32c flavour if I remember right (I had no punctures in 2 years on them, mostly on road)

thats the downside of stealing it back off the thief…they know where you live

Unless they were nicked from a bike rack or something

Yeah, going down the “bombers” route / car alternator through the window a’la Adam Ant (wasn’t getting his bike back, but it is a good story of comedy vengeance) does sound like the manly thing to do & having had bikes nicked in the past i’d have been tempted to throw someone under a bus if I seen them riding it down the street, however you could be dealing with the sort of shitehawks that would happily stab you up real bad for looking at them funny…

Exercise extreme caution & involve plod if you’re going confrontational, or, go full scale “10 big guys piling out of a transit & straight through someone’s front door” style. No half measures.

That tattoo fixers show has me in stitches – guy on it the other night had one reading “i’m on me holidays” on his forearm, he had it done on holiday so he could simply point at it instead of having to say the words whenever she was moaning at him for being blazing drunk at 10am or whatever…

He had it replaced with a monkey with a pair of leopard print scants on it’s head sticking it’s tongue out…

Neil Young – last month at the Hydro, top class!

Jimmy Cliff – last year at Wickerman, been dying to see him for years & he was amazing.

Fettlin – I had thought of doing just that, the headsets (Cane creek / Hope) both use the same bottom bearing & race (I originally had the Chameleon, then moved all the bits over to the Heckler, over time the Chameleon frame mysteriously built itself back up with similar parts)

If however i’m keeping both frames – for the sake of the couple of hundred quid I’d get back for the (slightly less tidy) forks & other bits, i’d be as well keeping them both as is… which i’m starting to think is actually a more sensible option than chopping everything in & ending up with a compromise between the two… especially if I need to start throwing money towards it to get something nice…

And having recently ridden an NS 27.5 140mm travel number (1×10, 12-42) and a spangly carbon Intense 29er (2×10) as hire bikes I would probably have been happier on mine… although that Intense Hard Eddie was fast, I couldn’t get find my confidence on the bigger wheels at all…

So – in a typical stw change of direction, can everyone now confirm to me that 2 bikes, front wheels off & tucked away at the back of the cupboard, take up pretty much the same (or even less) space as 1 bike stored with both wheels on with a spare pair of wheels next to it?

I think Brendan has riled a few of the “greatest fans in the world” with the “no embarassment” comment – if I were a Celtic fan i’d be slightly concerned that he’s put Effe Ambrose straight into his starting 11 in his first competitive game – an important one at that, i’m a Rangers fan & wouldn’t even pick him for a Celtic team as a joke

Still, should be an interesting season – Hearts & Aberdeen were looking good last season whilst Celtic have gone backwards in the last few years, having seemed to have accrued a 40-odd strong squad of “meh”

    Onward & upwards

On the subject of behaviour – T in the park has had a total of ~250000 people over the weekend – 4/5 home games for either of the old firm (if you use the Seville calculator for Celtic that is  ) & so far there’s been 3 deaths, a suspected rape, an ATM nicked with £50000 in cash in it, mass riots, countless arrests for drugs / violence… at least they didn’t have Coldplay I suppose… so a few bawbags calling each other names at the football starts to look a bit less outrageous.

    Nice breakfast

Nah, there’s a proper breakfast one now

    lovewookie

you can tell a good takeout by how much sellotape they have to use to keep the lid shut.

My old flatmate got a kebab one evening just before the shop closed – I could hear him laughing before he even made it through the front door, we soon joined him once we seen the beast – being not a fan of salad, this thing consisted of a single razor thin pitta bread with enough kebab meat on top to render Geoff Capes immobile for 3 days. There was a good 2″ gap round the box & it took 3 grown men to eat it, stunning.

Cheers for the thoughts guys – I had thought about selling pretty much everything & picking up something like a Soul or short travel FS frame & forks, or selling absolutely everything & buying a complete all rounder, as yet it’s all up in the air!

I would hang onto both but kinda need the space, plus the only thing worse than a bike sitting gathering dust is two… I was leaning towards keeping the chameleon as it’s great fun to ride & doesn’t hold me back any but it used to knock the sh!t out of me after a couple of hours… but as that’s all I get out for these days it might not be that bad.

I might stick them both in the car on Monday & give them both a run out to see which makes the trails come alive more

Whisper it: Edinburgh’s a bit better at this.

And only 45 mins away by train, then once you’ve come to your senses it’s only a morning you’ve wasted

Only kidding, I like Edinburgh – it’s the people that annoy me 8)

I like the Shimano DX (mx30) ones – once you fit longer pins that is – only issue is the pins are only 2.5mm grub screws so after taking a few rock strikes the pins tend to get ripped out taking some of the pedal meat with it, makes fitting new ones a pain in the barse… also because the pins are so thin & long (well, the ones i fitted are…) they will tear anything that gets in their way to absolute ribbons.

Actually, scrap that – I don’t like them that much & you should buy something else

Just back from Finale Ligure last week – like alpin I did a day with Finale Freeride which had some amazing trails but necessitates spending a bit of time stuffed in the back of the defender driving up old access tracks, I burst my hand performing a skillful 20 foot nose manual before crashing into a tree attempting to clear a rather terrifying looking section (ok, I shit myself & hauled on the brakes but was too far gone to stop…) just before lunch & spent the rest of the day gingerly picking my way through the “smooth” bits…

Couple of days later (once the bleeding stopped), I hired an xc bike & got a map of the local trails – there’s loads of accessible stuff if you have the legs for it, I put 30 miles round the Finale 24hr trail & the surrounding area and had a great time, it was warm though…

If you like the retro look, Cyclestore were doing the Specialized 1974 leather mitts cheap as chips recently – not masses of padding, but they are really comfy

I’m recently starting to have impure thoughts of the 7800 Dura Ace – it’s simple & shiny enough to be vaguely retro but still modern enough to be usable without any compatibility issues (unless you’re totally set on 11spd…)

But yeah, 10 speed Record Titanium.

Just noticed this thread resurgence – tk maxx have (or at least had a few weeks ago…) a load of the Giro “new road” stuff in, I got a pair of shorts & a couple of casual styled riding tees which would fit the bill well for touring (I had to size up in the shorts, they are pretty slim), might be worth a look if there’s one nearby

Sorry, but that is absolutely poor form ^

I know, what could he possibly have been gained from passing me & immediately turning off?

In my defence I was heading home, weary after a hard day of pretending to work & having already knocked out 170-odd commuting miles that week on a heavy bike with flat tyres & the guy I drafted was obviously out for a fast run on his good road bike… was barely drafting – just about hanging on, just pacing really

    mcj78

There’s a guy I sometimes see on my ride back home, a few times i’ve passed him & he’s drafted me for a couple of miles then sprinted past me literally about 20 metres before he turns off… why would you even bother?

Disclaimer – drafting is perfectly morally acceptable, one Friday night I was totally burst going into a headwind & hid behind a guy making good progress on the cyclepath for a good 7 miles – even going so far as not freewheeling so the noise wouldn’t give me away, it was glorious. He spotted me about half a mile from my house & gave a pleasant “oh, hello” and I burst out laughing & confessed i’d been hiding there for miles & thanked him for saving me a good 20 minutes.

I’m intending to get one just for a laugh & wind up the missus – hopefully i’ll be able to master it in secret & then start riding it through the house carrying a tray of drinks to entertain & amaze unsuspecting guests – was just wondering if it would somehow dial in my balance to superhuman levels & allow me to wheelie for miles into the bargain

the arya storyline is begining to bug me.

Yeah i’m wondering where it’ll go too – she obviously sought sanctuary with the many faced mob & has gone through various blindings & thrashings to prove her worth, but she seems to be disenfranchised with it all now – she certainly didn’t appear to be prepared to forget her old life when watching the play and questioned poisoning the older actress, she’s no happy with the paid assassin duties & just wants to get back to stabbing bad guys up real bad.

(that guy did look like Kevin Eldon, in his Big Train days – I loved that Virginia Plain Chairman Mao sketch…)

I got a stinker of a cold on holiday at New Year (Malaysia) – took 3 weeks to get back to semi-normality & my sense of smell has been a bit vague ever since, but weirder than that – my farts have also gone military-grade to the extent they’re no longer “funny” when in the company of drunken adult males & my wife actually got up & left the bedroom at 2am one night due to a particularly terrible emission… even the dog started barking at me after I dropped one last week…

I have been doing a lot more commuting miles this year, and eating healthier – so the farts might actually be a side effect of burning off 30+ year old fat reserves
