Buy from Taiwan via eBay – <£25.

Cyclistbike on eBay is the shop I’ve used, very good, in Taiwan.

Came from two different sources, Merlin and a guy in the Far East I’ve regularly bought kit from. Maybe will give it another shot but it broke on a race last week and spoiled my night, maybe not the part of the bike you want to try and save too much weight.

Oh and I got the gold one for extra tartage points so I probably deserve the bad luck.

Two individuals who only come here to trade parts have a disagreement. Couldnt you both maybe just go play with the traffic or something?

Beavers are terrific but I wouldnt reccomend trying to use them tubeless. Nothing I did would get them to work, pity.

I did the same, moved all my kit over to a new 29er frame and bought new wheels and forks. It all works, dont worry about gearing, bars and all that, its not a big deal, change later if you must. Clee Cycles are doing Crest on Hope for £270 if thats in budget. I’ve always had Fox and DT forks, got a Reba RLT 15mm from Merlin for about £350, fantastic fork.

McQuaid is the loyal lieutentant of Hein Verbruggen who very definatly was in charge during the Lance years and remians honorary president of the UCI.

McQuaid was President of the UCI Road Commission (1998-2005). It happened on his watch and like blazers everywhere all he really wants to do is cover his own back.

Time to wind up the UCI and start again.

It certainly wasnt magazines or “the industry” that made me switch across. It was lining up at events earlier this year and seeing all the quick guys on big-wheelers. The penny really dropped when I did a multi day event in the summer with a pal I’ve always ridden at the same pace as……him on 29er, he was just drifting away from me every day, and as the week went on and we got more fatigued it was more and more apparent how much more beaten up I was. Lot of that is subjective of course but my Garmin tracks tell me I’m 4.5% faster on my local XC loop on a 29er Ti hardtail than the same in 26″.

I wouldnt mind people asking if I will end an auction early if they actually gave you a price? Every time I sell I get some spiv asking whats the lowest price I’d take for it. I’ts the highest price I want thanks very much. Stopped answering them now,

Paul Kimmage giving him both barrels

But the piece was spiked by the newspaper’s lawyers. Later that summer, I wrote at length about Armstrong’s return to the Tour de France and it happened again — two weeks work, spiked by the lawyers. So it has been pleasing this week to see his face in so many newspapers. The cancer Jesus exposed. Justice finally done.

I dont sign up to this roadie/mtb unfriendly/friendly thing at all…..its very often the same people. Have had some of my best social rides on long, fast road sportives, they can be very hard days on the bike, people understand they need to work off each other, physiaclly and mentally. Had one of my best days on the bike on this year’s Dragon, joined up with a lad at 100km when we were both flagging a little, we had a chat and a laugh for the second half, picked up some others, both came in in good times and in good cheer.

Road riding is hard though, harder than mtb I reckon. Nowhere to hide is right.

Exactly wrecker…..Lifer why dont you take yourself out of the student union and down to Sierra Leone, ask a few folk what they think of the British Army and Royal Marines.

Every person joining up is responsible for perpetuating our various wars around the globe.

See, I spent most of my time on operations in the Former Yugoslavia providing, as the mission statement went “security in order to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid and the conditions for a wider peace.”

What were you doing when you were 24?

If he’s not suited to it he can leave any time during basic training. RTR are a cracking outfit as are the Cavalry. Not sure how many bits of heavy armour we’re going to have in a few years but driving a tank is just about the most fun a lad can have.

Who else on here has an H License?

So in the end I gave up, flogged the Beavers on here and bought a single Mud-X for the back, will percevere with the old Ron on the front.

The Mud-X went straight up by the way, even on a very wide rim, didnt even need Fairy Liquid, just track pump. Noticably heavier than the Beavers but needs must.

We used http://www.i-d-systems.co.uk/folding-doors/ who are the UK agent for Sunflex of Germany.

Cant recommend them enough, we’ve had them on the back of our house for 6 years and they look as good as new. Properly Germanic quality, they are big heavy things but the sliding/folding action is great. They even come round every couple of years and service the seals, I dont think they’ve ever charged for that.

If you do it make sure you have them flush with the floor so you walk straight in and out without stepping over a ledge, you get that full inside/out effect especially if its from your kitchen.

How often have you cleaned/serviced/regreased it in this time period? have you jet washed it or submerged it?

    Never and no….its my commuter.

My LBS going to fit something workmanlike with sealed steel bearings.

My LBS used to be a bit meh, bit disinterested. Then an Evans opened up round the corner, the shop gets a bit of a makeover, and a much more welcoming attitude from the staff. They still cant stock everything that Evans does but I try hard as I can to give them as much business as I can, always use their workshop, buy tubes and lubes there. I’ve got a good relationship with the guys there now, they always try and find a spot to get my bikes fixed and I get a good natter about all things bikes. If I pay a little bit more there I don’t care, just what a LBS should be. Thats Two Wheels Good in Crouch End, North London.

Great big Volvo XC90 7 seater. Second one we’ve had, total of 8yrs now and I’m bored of them. Super-practical for kids and dogs but never invested in a towbar so bikes on the roof gets tired as the kids get older and their bikes bigger.

Only about 30mpg too so going next year in favour a BMW 5 Series Touring….that’ll do about 54mpg I think.

Main reason I got another 4×4 was my wife loves the high seat position. It doesnt feel relaxing to drive to me, I cant wait to get back to a normal height car. And I love BMWs.

Buy a pair of army surplus goretex trousers for £5 online. They’re designed to go over combats so get them small. Cut them down yourself or get a sewing shop to do them all nice and neat. I dont really think you need anything else.

Dont know your route but flying Singapore Airlines in Economy or Business is the answer where practical. Lovely staff, good food and the best in-flight entertainment around. More bang up to date films than you can watch in one flight, tons of games for the kids to play. It isnt stellar parenting letting them sit glued to a screen for 13hrs but it’s the least painful option and you can return to being superdad once you land.

    Biscuits?

against people who were doping as much as he did

No, everyone assumed he’d been doping, just as everyone else was. What came out this week was the sheer scale of a doping operation, organised on an industrial scale for the benefit of Lance Armstrong. Anyone that didnt toe the line was threatened and bullied.

He’s a thoroughly nasty piece of work and shouldnt be role model to anyone.

    +1 what druidh says

You can go down the lawyer or union route if you like but bottom line is you work in a environment with pay incentives and yours has just been cut. Have a talk with your manager about it, he might agree that you have been hard done by or he might have some pointers for you as to how you get better paid.

I’m fingers and thumbs, no way I’d make a decent job of anything homemade sadly. Light wheels, light tyres…..light tubes I could do but I want to run at about 20-25psi so they wouldnt help me.
