As said above, it’s a nice easy download online from the microsoft website, if she is in education she should be able to get it free through her institute. If not you can get a free month trial anyway for her to try it out!

OK so plenty to choose from as have just come back from spending an incredible season in St. Anton

Highlight: Night hike at full moon, up from St. Christoph to Galzig, steaming down on fresh pistes, beautiful scenery and down by 12:30 to meet the rest of the gang in Picadilly. Or some of the awesome powder days experienced on Rendl or over at Stuben. Or perhaps the ‘Taps Race’ day, a small amount of skiing, great friends, food and apres.

Lowlight: All the hungover 7:30 starts (hard life eh!)

Things learnt: How to ski powder well. How to snowboard (not so well). That I will be coming back for another season next year ;)

Congrats Flashy!! Only a few years and she’ll be joining you on the slopes :D a little longer and she’ll be flying past you 8O

The Alps are looking superb on the webcams – I’m off to St. Anton for the season (as I’m sure many of you will know – only mentioned it a few times  ) but the resort has gone from green to white overnight so very excited!

A lot of landlords will take the mick and try and get a full deposit. I moved out of a house in June where the landlord wanted £6k plus deposit for damages, he made up numerous points and was trying his luck. In the end we settled for a split of the £250 deposit per person and he jumped at the chance of getting that. We could have had the full £250 but not worth it and the final settlement was relatively fair and easy. There are a lot of dishonest landlord’s out there. If you can form a logical argument and mention court, it seems they back down, as they know they’re trying it on.

Also once both sides submitted dps claim, it took 3 working days for money to clear into account.

Moving to St. Anton for the season a week today

I’m heading to St. Anton in just over two weeks to do my first season.

There are still apparently a few jobs about on natives and even snowheads infrequently, as people have referred to. Also contact the hell out of companies if you want to do it this season. Even if they can’t offer a job, be 1st reserve for inevitable dropouts!

Most chalet style jobs with UK TO you get; 1-2 meals a day, lift pass, ski/board hire, shared accommodation, flights/transfers and ~£350/month pocket money (France tends to be slightly higher with some companies due to associated living costs being higher).

Go for it and get applying/bumming!!!

Sunny by Level 1. If you haven’t check out the rest of level 1’s stuff.

There’s also quality level 1 stuff i.e. eye trip:

Brain farm’s videos are all good stuff if a little old (art of flight/that’s it that’s all).

If you don’t mind boarding there’s various stuff like twel12ve/burton’s standing sideways:

And a few good oldies like GNAR (full film online) & Claim:

    GNAR The movie

Some stolen from the Ski/Snow 2012/13 thread but all worth a watch, albeit some a little older.

This did 5 hours to start, down to about 4 now (bought in January). Charging fault developed after about 3 months (need to warranty it in a year – just a pain going without a laptop).

I’ve had good Toshiba’s and bad before. If you want longevity you need an apple  (can of worms…) bit more than £300 too.

Sitting here typing on that exact ASUS (x53). It’s not great.

Speedy enough for standard use, big enough HD etc. HOWEVER it is impossible to charge. The internal charging plug is loose (not a problem with the charger) which means that I have to tease it into the right place for charging and if you want to move about it’ll be another ten minutes to get it in the right place. Crap build quality IMO.

Wallop – think you can email oakley re: authorised dealers. Surfdome’s a reputable retailer so will be genuine. Think they may be tied in to twoseasons as well which would only reiterate that they’re a solid retailer.

Re: lenses/goggles, I found freezepro great in August; A Frames with persimmon lenses for £40. Just trying to decide whether to get fire iridium lenses as well or not (£48)

Changed my mind, added it to the buy list after that’s it, that’s all (can’t believe I haven’t seen this!).

Torsoinalake what do you make of The Dream Factory? I watched the trailer and wasn’t bothered on it at all?

Michaelmcc, ace, Level 1 have smashed out another great film (downloaded and just finished watching) just prefer eye trip but sunny is great – I do like the travelling circus/line boys as well who feature in it a fair bit.

@michaelmcc that’s really bizarre! Not like they’re K2s & Sally’s or anything, not overly common skis. How did you find them? Other than the COREupts on Ice? Caspers do seem great fun so far!

Edukator – good work! I’m in two minds between whether to get waxing iron/edging tools etc. or not as I’m doing a season starting tail end of next month. New kit is nice :)

Forgot to add new boots as well

    EDIT: MichaelMCC

Got some Line Prophet Skis with Marker Griffon bindings (skis £165 from edgeandwax, bindings £120 from my-race (gloucester ski slope)) All new.

And some COREupt Caspers (£80 from Sport-conrad delivered) with Squire Marker 11 bindings (£64 from Snowinn with some discount) all new.

Tried the COREupts on the dry slope 3 times this week, trying the lines out tomorrow

I wouldn’t say easy, but neither hard.

Did it the other week, it takes patience, and make sure you pay attention to ribbon wire connections – I left one loose initially and my digitizer didn’t work. Came back to it and all was good.

I found the tools provided absolute crap, like rounded heads etc. so spent a fiver in Maplin getting some half usable ones, which made life a lot easier. The glue used for the screen adhesive is pretty poor too. I can pull my screen out now with some teasing, by hand.

Videos on youtube make life a lot easier.

    CFH:

Itunes if you can run an itunes app on your android tablet, or VLC player.

This is speaking from Ipad background – I have itunes and VLC player on my ipad, VLC player app will pretty much play any video format.

If you want to DL from the net, and transfer to tablet, then depending on wanting to stick to legal or not; itunes for legal, isohunt for not. No way endorsing torrent-ing.

I’ve been watching Level 1: eye-trip, Twel2ve, Art of Flight, Line: Travelling circus (webisodes), Burton: Standing sideways, and GNAR (online) lately.

michaelmcc cheers for the video – bought it from itunes earlier and watching now, it’s great.
I’m enjoying the soundtrack and filming more than other films like twel2ve, standing sideways etc.

Wallop, no, not local to freezeproshop, just used them for goggles before. Didn’t even realise they did the boots – coincidence!

I got a pair of ‘oakley a frames’ with persimmon lenses for grey days for £60 odd quid, they’re still for sale on the site.

    here

I’ve got some oakley frogskins (sunnies) for brighter days and will probably get another lens for my a frames for bright days too.

Yep all done and dusted, ready for the season. Going to be playing at Tamworth and the nearby dry slope to bed them in a bit and make sure any niggles are ironed out before the season starts.

Really impressed with them, one flick of the latch at the back and boot position changes to make walking a doddle.

Wallop try freezeproshop. When I bought some A Frames 6 weeks ago they were very good value.

On another note…Bought some of these today and got them fitted…

Very comfy out the box, bit of molding and they seem good to go. Skis are in the shop having bindings mounted and then I’ll be testing all the new kit at Tamworth soon

Bouht an Asus something or other x53e (off the top of my head) in January, £400 supposedly down from £650, I5 processor, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM etc. however I WOULD NOT buy it again, I need to get round to warrantying it as the charger insert socket is loose and it’s an absolute pain to get charging, i.e. 1 minute to get the charger to charge properly and then you have to keep it deadly still to keep it charging. Not impressed. Been like this and progressively worse for 4 months, going to back it up on Sunday and take it back to Comet this week.
