    Yeah cheers all

Officially knackered now! If that was a “chilled” ride for the benefit of the newbie, I don’t think I wanna know what a “not so chilled” ride is

mboy – good stuff! It’s not every day you will get the opportunity to meet someone like me :D

    Likewise CG.

mboy – put your foot down, you’ll get there quicker! It’s not every day you get the chance of being led around trails by two gorgeous girlies

Appealing to my shallow side I see!

In that case, will have to see what I can do. Though don’t you dare disappoint!

Useful for fixing your bike in the dark, but definitely not for riding bikes on.

BTW, They’re less than a Fiver inside Tesco stores, £9.99 online is a ripoff!

May try and get my arse down to Swinley for this one, but not promising. It is almost 2 hours away after all!

Are you still intending to head down the FOD on Saturday?

It’s often possible to score a cracking set of speakers for minimal outlay. For instance, a couple of years ago Mission were bringing out a new range, I managed to bag a pair of the outgoing range (which were What Hifi 5* rated) for £99 down from £249.

    Here’s a few suggestions:

Bought my speakers from the Superfi shop in Coventry, and they were very helpful. Might be worth checking out Richer sounds too though.

worst year of my life …. so far

    Ditto :(

Don’t think I know anyone that could lay claim to 2008 having been a good year for them! Worst year of my life too.

So, I am now mega positive, cos I don’t think it’s possible for things to be worse! So cheers to everyone, Happy New Year, here’s to a good one.

…….Well I was going to say that but didn’t want the other ladies to be offended! I do think I am unique in many ways though and I am a bit anal when it comes to colours clashing. And yes, the colour thing extends to bike stuff as well I’m afraid :D

Now’s probably not a good time to admit I binge on Ice Cream and chocolate all too often then :?

That and I’ve colour coordinated the saddle, grips and pedals on my new bike (all of them white) to contrast (but not clash) against the black bars/stem and seatpost, with a silver frame.

Another reason to get a Mac too, they go with everything! Unlike my PC which of course clashes terribly :P

Went out yesterday for 4 hours, had a good time. Got home, got showered, face started hurting. Basically I’ve got quite bad windburn, where my face is all dry and sore!

Was supposed to be out today too, one look outside this morning and seeing the temp was minus 3, and it wasn’t happening.

Thank you RudeBoy, I could not have put it better myself. Your experiences mirror mine. 8)

    And mine!

I’m no fanboi, but it just has to be said that Mac’s do *most* things better than a PC, and significantly more reliably.

Sure, you pay a premium for that, but I’d expect to quite frankly! Of course that doesn’t stop me wishing that Apple will license OSX in the near future for 3rd party hardware manufacturers to use on their machines.

*I say most, cos I’m not going to argue that Mac’s are better for games than PC’s, they’re clearly not, but then most people I know don’t play games on their computers. Those that do play games generally have a dedicated console.

Mine is black, not very original but I know if I’d have chosen a colourful one I’d hate it if it clashed with my clothing – it’s an aleigh thing!

What you mean to say is that you’re female!

Says the guy that can’t have coloured bike bits for fear of clashing!

Just been for a ride round Wyre today. Got to say was chuffed that for the mostpart the trails have held together very well, and were pretty dry. And the bits that were muddy weren’t too bad either.

Is this ride happening on Friday then? Cos I fancy coming along. But I’ll need to know where/when etc. I only know how to get to the main carpark at the visitor centre in Wyre Forest, so if it’s not there I’d need directions.

Whoever’s organising, can I get your email address please! Cheers

How “chilled” is chilled? I fancy learning some routes round Wyre, but am totally unfit right now, wouldn’t want to hold anybody up.

Conor, I’ve noticed you’re very dismissive of everyone else’s thoughts and attitudes! Why so?

From my point of view, it would be hard to do any less riding than I’ve done this year, so even getting out once a week/fortnight will be a vast improvement.

I’m in the same boat regarding the job and starting afresh though.

Much as I disagree with Conor’s dismissal of London totally, I can’t say I’d choose to ride there if I was going somewhere specifically for a good ride for my birthday!

Abroad perhaps? My birthday is the middle of summer though, one of my best days riding ever was my birthday a few years ago in the Alps.

Failing that, I’d get up to Scotland and take some trails in up there, or do a trail centre or 2 in Wales maybe. Day out in the Yorkshire Dales perhaps?

If it was of any interest, I could show you a few trails in Forest of Dean, but undoubtedly there’s people on here that know the area better than I do. Mind you, if you’re promising cake and beer, I’ve got 3 and a bit months to learn more trails off by heart! ;-)

    Hi mate

I’m super slow (due to unfitness at the moment), but I know enough trails there to make a 3 hour ride feasible (though might be 4 given the mud and my unfitness levels!).

I can see if a couple of my mates that know the trails a bit better than me would be up for it too if you fancy?

Yes, definitely, nobody can say there isn’t an aspect of their life they shouldn’t improve, even if it is totally selfish!

Mine are to ride lots more (been a bit lazy this year), get fitter, and to not waste the end of my 20’s (30 is not far away now!) by not partying enough. In 2009, to quote Prine, I’m gonna party like it’s 1999! :-p

    Step 1: Find big hill

    Step 2: Ascend big hill

Step 3: Descend big hill very quickly using brakes to slow you down

    Step 4: Repeat if necessary

You’ll find that a bit of speed will help get them bedded in in no time, as it burns off any residues left on the pads or the rotor. A bit of mud can also help the bedding in process, but too much mud can eat through brake pads in no time.

Believe the Airbike battery is 3 18650’s wired parallel inside a case. Would be plenty easy enough to buy/make another battery.

That said, an email to Planet X would also probably result in an answer!

Found a bargain the other day in of all places, Halfords!

They stock Clark’s cables, and do a set of fully sealed/sheathed outers with good quality inners, more comparable to XTR cables than XT, for under a tenner. Depending on your bike too, there’s nearly enough outer cable included for 2 bikes!

Bought an Airbike SL2 from Planet X for £125 about 10 days ago. Can’t say it’s quite as bright as a Hope Vision 4, or a Lupine Wilma on full blast, but it’s not far off. It also only cost £125!

It’s got a good flood to it, but it’s not ridiculous. Smooth spread on the beam pattern too, no real noticable “rings” or “spots” to it, just a bright centre that fades gradually to the edge of a pretty decent beam pattern.

Really impressed with it, and for less than half the price of a Hope Vision 4, I could get another to go on my head as well, and have a total of 1400 Lumens for £250!

The only thing is the handlebar bracket isn’t as good/convenient as a Lumicycle/Hope/Lupine mount. It’s still less of a faff than zipties though!

It surprises me that practically nobody on that forum (EvilZone) seems to comprehend that what they do is actually illegal.

I can vouch for the Genesis Altitude. Just got one, very nice bike. I’ve not got a full Genesis bike (bought a frame and built it up), but the spec on the full bikes isn’t bad (though I managed to build up a better spec for cheaper by buying bits off here or ebay).

The Altitude 30 gets a full XT drivetrain and Reba Race 120mm forks for just under £1600, or for just under £1100 the Altitude 20 gets a lower spec, but the same frame which you’ll keep and upgrade over time.

The Genesis is more “XC” than a P7, On One 456, Dialled PA etc. But it’s still designed around a 120-130mm fork. Frame weight is quoted at 4 1/2 lbs, which seems about right. Certainly it’s a good deal lighter than a P7/456/PA. Cotic Soul would of course be another similar frame, though you’d have to build it yourself of course.

Sorry, I’m sure it wasn’t meant quite how I understood it, but that’s made me chuckle!

It’s definitely good that you have an “understanding” girlfriend though ;-)

Check out the Trek and Specialized bikes in that range. Both these companies have been in the WSD game for a while now, and seem to have a range of sizes to fit even the tiniest of ladies.
