I’m 5ft10 and bought an 18″ before they started making a 17″. On really steep stuff it feels maybe a tad big but never tried a 17.

Does for me. It’s an hour drive from where I live and I still go most weeks because there isn’t anything better

    Do you want rear sus?

I have a dartmoor phantom 4x frame for sale in the classifieds

No, raw so you can see welds etc, lacquered so it stays shiny.

    Sounds good to me.

Leisure lakes in dav is my most local really (30 mins away) and I can’t think of a single thing I have bought from them ever. Mainly because they stock very little and it’s always “we can order it in”.

If I wanted to order something in I would go on the net and order it in to my own house

Is it actually raw or is it lacquered? On a fully raw frame wouldn’t it need constant polishing? I would still heli tape at least as braided wires etc will still rub the metal

First time I did follow the dog it took me an hour and a half and I pushed my bike up the fire road and threw up an hour in. But I carried on, finished it and enjoyed it.

I was ashamed at how unfit I was though lol. I did more cycling, mornings before work for half an hour three times a week and a few more attempts at follow the dog.

Last week I went, managed the fireroad and did it in just under an hour.

Just keep riding, you will get fitter and faster and be amazed how quickly it happens

Sorry I meant its all I really ride trail centre wise, although living in rugby I do struggle for natural stuff close by. Hmm new thread time

Gxp for SRAM. I am in the same predicament about to order the xo carbon DH cranks for my five and needing a new bb to go with. Hope with an adapter is an option I am thinking of

That’s cool. Cannock is my most local centre (still an hour away) but its pretty much all I ride. Personally I have no issues with braking bumps. Maybe thats my lack of knowing better but they never seem to get in my way

Thinking about it. I have the DH bars, aren’t they the havocs? Anyway, I have the wider Easton carbon bars.

+1 for the havens. I have them and they are a great light bar with a lovely shape and feel

Seems a good move to me. Getting a big name behind a product launch has a massive effect on sales, publicity and gives a halo effect to a brand.

Fair enough they may not be for the crowds on here, from reading several threads it’s pretty clear there is very little in the world of bikes for the people on here as most things popular or trend driven seem to get slated, but it will certainly do halfords well.

Plus it’s not like clothing or anything where volumes are massive and getting something wrong costs a lot of markdown, I imagine it’s one or two bikes per store, plenty of time to sell them, sit back and enjoy yet more good publicity. Halfords have already used every opportunity to say how well they are doing at present.

Camping in the uk, bikes instead of cars, petrol cans come the shortage etc

Would this work? What does the m985 part mean? Isn’t 985 the race stuff not trail stiff or does that just apply to cranks etc? Would this be ok with slx shifters?

Yeah we did the bit past the golf course and finished with the really steep track to the viaduct. Something I would have papped myself over at the start of the day I got down with hardly any braking at the end. Loved it

Muddy, it’s up in yorkshire, we did a route from near Hebdon bridge? There was a great rock paving section and then a pretty steep descent to the car park. Was a great day.

And yeah, I meant I have been looking at the short cage shadow mechs, not just shadow in general. There are so many model numbers I gave up though lol. And when it’s ten speed the choice seems more limited. If anyone can advise the best one I would be grateful.

Price wise yeh they have a bit of a premium but they also offered a lot of options up front which meant less spent on buying bits later and trying to sell second hand parts off it. Bars and stem and seat post etc. Plus I got two pay rises and a bonus within 4 months so figured I deserved it hah

Yeah was looking at the shadow mechs last night. May get one

And as for the flat trail sorry, it was a beginners course what can I say

Just a little update, had the bike a month now and love it still!! Done follow the dog several times now but desperate to get further a field. Did a beginners skills day up in Yorkshire which was brilliant, I am sure it will be well below everyone on here but it was great for me to actually have someone show me, talk me through and then feedback on my technique. Did climbs, descents, step ups, corners, ride position etc etc etc.

Have bought a few things for it, new podium point one pedals arrive next week and my gamut dual ring arrived last night.

All in all still very very happy!!!

Me early in the day still not bending my arms enough! That’s my downfall constantly! Years of bad habits to try and get rid of
