Id rather use a tool then to not dent the plastic to make sure the threads would be ok, you would also have to use a press to put it back again anyway. worth taking it to the lbs to get them to do it quickly?

Assuming its the same kind of press fit as bb30, I remove mine carefully with a flat head and a rubber mallet so that I dont damage the bearings too much and can reuse them.

You can buy removal tools, the park tool one for bb30 is ~30quid I think which put my off..

edit: after a 30 second google I found this, http://wheelsmfg.com/tech/PDF/pf30-install-warranty.pdf seem pretty inclusive.

second ninja edit: Found these tools

You dont really need a dropper post riding it around the car park at trail centres anyway.

I thought all road mechs (regardless of “speeds”) were compatible? same with all mtb mechs but not cross compatible.

If you are happy with them go for the same again. All I can recommend is mavic open pros, they are heavy as hell but take a stupid amount of abuse.

Having had a few incidents with cows on my bike I try and steer well clear of where they might be grazing at various times of year. If they are in the field I want to go through and there is no way around I tend to do the perimeter fence technique, its just when they are stood by the **** gate that it is sketch and I have to hop the fence.

The worst time was then they saw me from across the other side of the next field, started ‘jogging’ towards me so I sped up towards the exit of the field, then they started to charge me. Never have I dismounted and hopped a barrier so fast, best cross practice ever if it wasnt for the impending death, the cows did ram the gate/fence a few times after id hopped it, glad I got out of their way.

not sure about QR as I dont know the bike, but couldnt you just fill it with grease? or put a bolt in there that is greased to protect the steel?

I’m not local and I’m in. SSCX because I have no hope of riding with a hangover anyway.

I sold my stupidly heavy ally road bike for a carbon fork/ally frame cross bike, goes like stink with slicks on and has completed the fred whitton and the 3 peaks cyclocross, if I could ride it all year all the time then I would.

Unfortunately my local XC races dont allow cross bikes because they are too quick on some circuits, and afan was rough on a hardtail, let alone a cross bike! I do feel like my MTB gets neglected as I never have the need to ride it outside of big trail centres.

or small dia washers inside the mini v arm but over the longer bolt? or as ah said, dont bodge and change the stud.

Cantis are better than red22 hydros at the moment in this weather!

Based on my cantis and being unsure how they mount to the studs (although park tool confirms what I think), longer centre bolt to hold onto the stud? That is a bodge as much as I can think, can’t think how else it could be bodged on I am afraid.

mtbmatt, that is exactly what I have done, lots of lovely lithium grease. There is an awful lot of pitting on the cup, cone and the bearings themselves so not a lot of life left regardless of how much grease I put in there!

Brake cleaner – can’t beat that spray bottle of lovelyness. This is the one I use and you can clean floors, brakes, chains (although not sure how the orings like it) and just about anything you want.

Seems like oliverracing has gotten a new account name on stw and bodged some cassettes together!

Pics definately needed, sounds good though

edit: Clubber, it would be quite easy with a 3 axis cnc to get the spacing correct in the old sprocket to remove the eccentricity but that also means you have to have access to one.

Not these wheels in particular but I did purchase some R500’s for my cross bike (to run a road and cross wheelset) and they have done a fair amount of offroading on some questionably low spoke counts and they are still straight and true and they seem to be the road equivilent. Their cheap stuff seems to be built to be bomb proof and shimano stuff is pretty good quality anyway. More than capable for commuting, probably pretty good for trail centers as well.

Have a look at Haibikes, they do a hard tail electric mountain bike. They work pretty well but are “pedal assist” rather than a motor. A few guys turned up to some local races by me and raced on them, they were a lot quicker up the hills than down them.

Because we dont have a massive engine that is easily capable of slipping the rear wheel in 95% of conditions so we don’t need as big of a tyre at the rear (for grip), our limiting factor is the cornering grip, hence people often use wider front tyres in mtb.

As for the smaller wheel, as the tyre is larger perhaps the circumstance is the same? (not knowing much about mx) If it is smaller then it could be to allow the engine to respond faster to throttle inputs by the rider and to produce better accelerations (see the 29/26 argument when you stamp on the pedals).

EDIT: on the small rear wheel large front wheel side of things check out he Trek 69er and all their marketing hype

Why would you get a xD free hub and then run it 1×10?

SA – they do look fantastic, shame I cant get industrial coloured sharpies.

    RM – ?

Kayak – then it would be so cool with a buffed up clear coat as well

MLC – I also do really like the dimension idea, very unique.

They are not MrS, they are industrial sharpies, can withstand water, solvents, 230 Celsius, chemical baths etc. Probably good enough to defile a bike with.

www – if i were to do another one, that would definitely be it, I am currently set on b&w though I am afraid!

swe – I also like that idea, thats going on the list.

Dabble – thats why I am asking really, not sure what the best way to protect runs would be.

Oli – so many sharpied things that make it look lovely. I also bought a ridiculous 60mm DH stem for it today as well.

I think that the south loop is better than the north anyway, I also adore the blue loop due to just how fast you can take everything. If you go just ride the south and blue a few times instead? I, until recently, only rode the south loop until I decided that I loved climbing and then rode up the pass and then straight up the north loop as well.

Based on what hurts after doing whinlatter duathlon, 3pcx, skiddaw run etc. I would say calf raises are the big thing for me but that is because of how I run (might need to do it for you as well). Otherwise lots of squats, try bulgarian split squats (where you have one leg steadied off the ground behind you and squat on one leg, really helps build core stability, along with raised lunges (one leg on a chair thats against the wall so it doesnt slip) and then you can easily get deep lunges.

Disclamer: not a personal trainer, just what seems to work for me with body weight exercises.

What do you want? I have 1400 recipes.

A good one is beef stew, use shin, ~1kg sweet potatoes, 2 red onions, parsnips, squash, enough rosmary to make you think “thats a bit much”, salt, pepper, ~500ml beef stock, 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 1tbsp of tom puree, leave for about 10 hours.

I have some fantastic curry ones, sweet and sour chicken, a chapter on chilli, breakfasts, coffees, jams etc.

Bacon jam is also a good favourite of mine even though it has only been done once, tastes lovely.

I am looking to build one up under the guise of “My current commuter is too small for me” and it will be an SSCX or SS road bike depending on the wheelset I put in it.

I love riding my cross bike off road and the face of the mamils on 5k full suspension bikes as I ride past them down a descent they are all umming and arring about. That makes me want the cross bike, the single speed is to just make my legs hurt over winter and make my legs look more like a german track cyclist.

I would consider myself reasonably fit and run a 34 up front. My overly fit house mate runs a 36 but weighs nothing although he is considering running a 37T oval ring.

Like joeelston said, run a 32 and you can go one up or down from there, should be plenty

Are the forks identical? If they are return the CRC ones because they are much better at returns (I have returned some shoes under warranty and they were actually lovely about it).

I would avoid dealing with dave hinde again if I were you. I am currently trying to get a refund for some wheels that were built wrong and I am roughly a step away from taking them to court over the matter.

If you do want to take them head on I recommend you go to citizens advice and get letter templates that you can send them (didn’t work for me) or you can start quoting the distance selling regs seen as the forks are unused any normal and decent company would issue a refund with no quarrels, I would not expect the same service from Hinde. If you then don’t get on with the letters give CA a ring and they will talk you through the next steps, after all that has fallen through (which it will), trading standards will get involved to help you try to resolve the matter and make sure that when you do take them to court that your case is as strong as it could be.

Once you are at court I have no idea what will happen, I am not that far down the line with my lovely dave hinde racing products.

Edit: When it comes to charge back as well I was told by CA and trading standards that most banks now only do charge back for purchases over a certain amount, for my bank its £250 so it would cost me money to get them to chase my purchase.

Go faster to begin with, shift weight backwards. My land cruisers aren’t great in the mud and do slip a bit at 80psi but are better than expected.
