Still have a 1989 Scott with a tange infinity frame kept in the shed and has not rusted through yet.. . if you ride it often enough it should have gone out of fashion and look a bit bent by the tie the rust has any effect on its performance.. spend the money on beer and put the additional weight where you can enjoy it most…. anyone know what spray to stop my aluminium frame fatiguing?

Rather weirdly for a resident of North Wales, I know Dieter through a musician friend who works with him on his solo work. He is stonking rich has a ranch ,Ojo de Agua, in Argentina with vineyard and has a steakhouse in Buenos Airies and back in Switzerland he is exceptionally eccentric. Boris is now very much into architectural sound tracks and produced a 10 minute epic for the Launch of some Xmas lights in Zurich. Carlos fell out with them and now works alone.

The recent virtual album Touch Yello supporting the virtual show in Berlin was a bit of a virtual let down the world still awaits Yello's first live appearance other than their occasional art installation appearances to select art shows. They do have a studio album in a can but decline to release it.

It's not about what has been lost it's about keeping what is left that drives many conservationists and protection policies, doing it the other way around needs far more money, something they rarely have much of.

Big Clever cheeky lite to subtly link a couple of bridleways following an old trackway is one thing but there are some who feel they have no reason to even bother to look at rights of ways on maps other than as a hint in unfamilar areas. This type of use is noticed and a number of proposals to build extensive promoted routes in the Welsh Mountains have been killed because of landowners real concerns that it will only lead to an invite to a sizeable number in the increase in trespass. Irrespective of the SFB law about the rights of land ownership in Norman Britain the law favours those with an acre or two.

Smug scottish correspondents should have noticed in the press a recent legal case where a landowner denied and then succesfully fought a court case thereby gaining the right in law to block horseriders from enjoying their Scottish rights where there reduce contributed to a potential degradation of ground conditions. Bad case law indeed if you are planning to wear some gnarly singletrack in on a Ben near you soon.

If you insist on being cheeky you may of course disregard the views of other users about the legitimacy of being there but anything less than courtesy to landowners simply hands reason for the next Tory government to introduce legislation making it easier for landowners to apply for blanket bylaws turning illegal access into a criminal offence.. one other good reason to disregard the anti broon tory boys here and keep the red flag flying.

Gilles has a perfectly valid point there and anyone believing they offer zero impact, you probably migt not do much but the 100 MTB riders who said the same that went that way before you and will come after you will. With most such conservation sites when degradation occurs the person legally liable is the landowner for not stopping the cause of the damage. In Mountain Areas so loved of MTBers often even higher european designations apply which when damage occurs sees the UK government getting a mandatory 5 or 6 figure fine.

The more you ride and create cheeky trails that erode and denude such land it adds to the weight of evidence that will at some point lead to a domino effect of the introduction of draconian anti access laws. .if you doubt it possible just go back to the root of this thread.. the 4×4 drivers had their access ripped from under their wheels, there remain landscape conservationists out there, many in National Parks, who loathe the uncontrolled presence of people in their perfect countryside and seek cause to be able to get powers to both control it and thereby justify their existence.

Having got a whole gamuts of gps devices from etrex to cx60 their were good deals to be had earlier this year as I discovered here, on the Oregon 300 and 400, which i purchased with half price os mapping from field and trek who at the time were the cheapest but the prices were subsequently matched on amazon so it was clear Garmin were having a stock drop, there may well still be some stragglers left.

where as the oregon 300 has the bell but not the whistle of the 400, the new dakota 20 seems to have neither and looks a very good tool at a reasonable price point with the large screen iphone size map screen unlike the squinty etrek displays.

The Oregon is robust i left it on the roof of my car, forgot about it drove down a quiet lane turning into a field. On my return trip i saw my garmin with its distinctive red lanyard lying in the side of the road, stopped to pick it up expecting a calamity and there was not a mark on it. They are waterproof too.

The only thing that has stopped iTunes Music Store selling unprotected music was the record companies. That is now drawing to a close and I ahve been able to swop most of my many store purchases from protected mp4 (.m4p) to mp4 ( .m4a). Many digital music players of calibre that are not shackled to microsoft software now play mp4 such as most Sony Media Players and phones.

Your car player should support mp4. If it does not you can find software to re-rip mp4 to mp3, doing so may reduce the quality of the music but possibly not detectable to a car audio system. You would be better not deleting the original files as they will be a higher quality and keeping a seperate supply of your converted mp3's outside of iTunes and just copying them to your SD card as needed.

I have an excessively large music collection, the material portion of which began swamping the house interior many years ago. By embracing digital files for all new purchases I can keep 90 days worth of music in a box the size of a pack of tabs which is less than the space 4 cd's take. On the other hand as with the Doors Remastered cd/dvd reissue, the recent remastered collection of the catalogue of Kraftwerk and the CD set of each single in original sleeve released by the Clash I went online and bought the physical version in their limited edition collectors editions making a worthwhile item of home decor and eye candy

No I have not but I do know Ian who runs it and can vouch for his integrity. He is a keen and experienced rider, did the trans rockies this year. He has a close association with the team running Coed Llandegla, some of whom have been out there. I have ridden with him a number of times here in the uk he is a good ride companion, and prefers longer rides at a steady pace. They are a relatively new company but has been going to Bulgaria for a number of years. I know locals who have been out to ride with him comment on the quality of the trails are regular riders here in North Wales so I would say that he will know some good routes

the OP quite rightly later though about the IPR issue and asked the rights holder who had reasonable issues, after all its his work and his income and suggests a compromise where we get a badge and he makes money and stimulates economic growth in the jewellery sector….

What is more galling when Cove told Geoff Moorhouse to desist making nice pewter headbadges to replace their flakey stickers and failed to offer an alternative…

As partly responsible for the nwmba map I dont know how the distance ended up coming out so wrong.. however it's not a good winter route the bit between Bwlch Maen Gwynedd and Llandrillo would resemble the Somme right now and it also suffers more than its fair share of dire weather. When we get time there will be an extension of this route heading out past the nps downhill course at Moelfre.

good luck if you try it

Hugh-b indeed, no one knows if these self appointed trail gods who decry the trail centres can even ride over a kerb. I know of several international dh 4x and xc racing stars who regularly ride at Llandegla to work on their skills as part of their training regime. If you trail centres are not your bag then leave them alone, for most other riders who ride them get more than enough fun to justify the trip.

I find riding trail centres avoids otherwise unavoidable exposure the cow and sheep shit in the Clwyds, gates jammed closed whilst socialising with a wide range of friendly riders happy to chat and no random walkers standing in the middle of the best line…. the lone frontiersmen here who only ride natural mostly only ride town parks and tow paths with confidence, they will ride for 3 years then sell their bikes finding they are having more fun playing golf because ultimately everything they can't ride seems to bore them.

Llandegla will open more trail, including a pump track, soon but the reality is they are obligated to ensure these trails are safe for anyone to use. If you want to try something that does not flow and makes you continually have to think where to put the next wheel you know where to look to find it.. the only problem is by defining those bridleways as difficult and challenging will always tempt the councils to make them safer for the same reason the trail centres have to consider the point as well as how they can fund the long term maintenance.

Point goes to JoB it is indeed Rory, with a ridgeback rider behind, picture I believe was taken by Jake Elliots dad and I got my hands on it via Tim. It's a particularly good shot being circulated on Facebook by Tim Davies I thought it deserved sharing whilst the BC Hall of fame thing is going on. Some debating going on about who second schmoo rider is by the schmoo riders. Merion Thomas is one suggestion but he is denying it , Tim D reckons Shakkers always rode odd floro socks and in any case rode for Pedalpower that year.

There will always be those who cant afford what they think they deserve and who will despise those who can afford more than they need. Their envy blinds them so much they neither see that next year the bling bike will be in the classified with over a 50% discount so someone who deserves it may just about be able to afford it. If the rule was we can only have what the trail requires and what we are able to ride then we'd still be on muddy fox couriers or prestige stumpjumpers. You would not be able or allowed to go down to your LBS to gawp at that repulsive nomad or enduro you don't need because as no one else can have own Specialized or Santa Cruz cannot be bothered bringing in just the 10 models that riders could legitimately claim to own.

Likewise the mags would have little point existing and we would only have mlehworld to go to discuss this pointless topic on.. I apologise most sincerely for adding to this thread… however please let us applaud the Hora's of the world for their valued place in the cyclists redistribution of excessive wealth program.

I would doubt that the sign is forgotten, windblow trees create what to the forestry commission is considered to be one of the most dangerous risks to man after their machines in the forest – Hanging trees. Those that just lie on top of each other suspended waiting for their moment to finally comply to gravity's wishes. I have been out with FC and private foresters inspecting prospective routes for mtb races we had identified and they always get jumpy when we go near hanging timber.

The cost of removing such timber will be far higher than standing timber as chainsaw operators are not meant to use saws above shoulder height without additional equipment including harnesses, the effect of removing hanging trees causes the whole thing to constantly resettle, which if not done carefully can lead to injury or fatalities for the felling team. In addition any value left in the timber can be lost if not sawn in the appropriate manner.

Standard forest practise for England and Wales is if the windblow lies within extensive stands of trees then to leave removal until harvesting (There is a vast area of historic windblow blocking our old xc course in Clocaenog Forest right above the new Foel Gasnach Downhill track because of this policy). The only usual exception is if a defined public right of way is being obstructed or the area is well used by the public in which case they have to take the hit of the costs. I would imagine in Scotland where they to take into account the right to roam they would be having to clear every pile of windblow if all of the public took the view of the OP. Not erecting the closed signs on such paths would be akin to leaving loaded shotguns around on the ground, because although many may well leave them alone as soon as one goes off or someone is shot everyone will blame the forestry for not having taken preventative action.

The Basques discovered America first, however they were such a distrustful nation they declined to tell anyone so they could keep its riches for themselves..

Wales was Wales before England was was, It was the early christian monks who endeavouring to try to record it had to find an alphabet and of course as Latin speakers they assigned latin text to transcribe it. it is quite possible in doing so they have distorted pronunciation of the language to a more latin vowel set. It was not that long ago that the texts commenced about the time of William the Bastard. Gerald Cambriensis's tour of Wales was part of the process by which the narrative of Welsh History, Culture and legends was created. The Mabinogion was passed down through generations of skilled story tellers never on paper, The importance of the spoken language has made eisteddfod and the art of verse and singing in person so important in Welsh Culture as opposed to having loads of book festivals.

as Iolo says the beauty of the language is it mutates so that when letters with hard sounding words come together the mutation softens the process for the spoken language but can look a tong twisting adventure when written for an english speaker. eg in Wales Yn Cymru becomes Yng Nghymru a nasal mutation that sounds a whole lot nicer than pronouncing the dictionary spelling

Not having had a set of the cheap ones I can't comment how right ton is but I have heard similar tales from riders with the ones that come standard on Oranges which are the cheap ones.

I have MK 2.4 with the black chilli riding north Wales which is mostly pishy peats and podzol soils interlaced with large amounts of sedimentary rocks , some slabby with sharp edges like slate and others round smoothed like limestone and more than a few tree roots thrown in for good measure. I have had no problems with grip or traction on the tyres. I have also invested in RQ's for a full sus bike but not tried them yet.

The only problem with large body conti's I have had is them rolling around on the road which gives the sensation of a flat tyre and can be off putting at speed however i dont buy mtb tyres to maximise road perfomance and might be fixed by fitting wider rims which i choose not to.

Pigface feel free to misled those fantastic Ross Kemp Tough Cops big crime documentaries on Sky that fill in for the fact they have no programs of interest..

it's not that favellas are no go zones for the police, South American police forces are nothing like our boys in blue other than sharing a name, in some cases they are simply the tyrannical civilian enforcers of the regime in power for when the government wishes to avoid looking like a military dictatorship, the just application of any actual law to all people is not their mission. They will often be partisan and in the case of the favellas, the politicians often do not really want to waste fairly limited national resources helping them become civilised settlements it is often more about building a managed wall around the outside to control their contact with the section of society the politicians are supported by. If law breaks down so badly in a favella it bothers law enforcement agencies, it is more likely to be bulldozed or set alight than have it's ills addressed.

Many Police in South America once appointed have to pay for their own uniforms which creates a kind of culture that they feel entitled to then take advantage of opportunities to recover that investment as a perk of the job, with an addiction often setting in after taking small bribes the passage to complete corruption is a natural progression. The cost to correct this is often so far out of the reach of the better governments they just get to accept it.

The South Americans just put up with it, for any Brazilian you are as likely to be shot by a Policeman for no reason in Rio as you are on a tube on the London Underground.
