If you've not done it before then probably best go kentmere-longsleddale-gatesgarth-haweswater-nan bield-kentmere. Then next time choose for yourself as you'll know what you're in for!
yes there was a video not so long ago of the descent of nan bield to haweswater here
…so if you like the sound of the ullswater path then try:
patterdale-bridgend-boredale hause-boredale-martindale-bedafell knott-boredale hause-rooking-high bridleway north towards lake shore-lake shore bridleway-boredale-boredale hause-rooking (again)-patterdale
that's my 1pworth for an ullswater lakeshore route anyhow! Starts from the same place as the helvellyn route too.
(nice pics Gav – that was a great day out; hello exclimbersshop Chris)
There are a number of areas – eg ullswater, kentmere, ambleside, grizedale, coniston, central fells, keswick, western fells + more. Each has a variety of fab rides. Choose an area!
3-4 hours? Glenridding – Keppel Cove. Check the time when you get to the top of the Keppel Cove path as to get to the summit and back will probably take more or less an hour / hour and a half from here. If time allows then Lower Man – summit – back down Lower Man – Raise – Sticks pass – Glenridding. Time running short? Just turn right and head straight over Raise towards Sticks. Have a goodun
4-6 hours probably. Good mountain route especially whilst it's dry – do the ullswater path towards the end of the day and it might be more clear of walkers. Have a goodun
Thanks for the advice – I'll see what I can do. I have already submitted it to the singletrackworld news address for potential news item. Maybe it's in the pipeline
Ditto for 'they just work' / 'no crash damage'. Less for your knees to bounce off if you're on the front of the saddle and pedalling. Cables easy to fit; cable routeing not significantly different to other shifters.
You might have to work very hard indeed to find one for sale without a bike but the seatpost specced on Mezzo bikes is listed at 31.6mm and is a whopping 550mm long!
I’m a little confused. The main Watendlath to Rosthwaite bridleway goes through that 3 bar gate, and so did I. Describe the bit that is just round that corner?
