mine just started freezing not long after switching it on and loading a game. Ended up with the red ring of death eventually. Can get a kit to rectify it. Fairly straight forward to do, mine was just out of warranty so gave it a try and been working fine since. Can look out the kit link / instructions if you like…

How do people find sealskin socks? Have heard mixed reviews, some say great as keep your feet dry, other say that they will keep them wet as water / sweat cant get out….

Sitting at 30-34 mpg for a subaru impreza 2.0 petrol (non turbo) whether loaded with kit/bikes or just myself….got a spreadsheet with all the fuel i’ve used since i got the car around 3 years ago (how sad I am I!!)

Around 40 average for 1.5 lsi Honda civic before the impreza

This little graph may be of interest to people as well as made it to see how much I could potentially save per month on fuel based on avrage monthly mileage over the last 12 months.

very very sweet light, used on the bars with bettery under the stem. Very clean simple system. More than plenty light for any technical descent or fast singletrack, just spreads light everwhere (in a good way) Battery life is excellent so far. As has been said, can run low or low+1 for alot of stuff and full when you need it. Have orderded an xml torch as a replacement for my current torch and will again be velcroed to the helmet (couple of velcro straps through the vents and round the torch) Will give even range being a tighter spot and should make a good combination. Pleased with build quality and mates have followed suit now…birds start their morning bird songs when we’re all out lol no complaints for the money

nice review of differing loghts and their beamshots

Looking to get a xml torch for the helmet to go with the magicshine MJ 872 1600 lumen on the bars. Any suggestions? was looking at 1300 lumens with batteries and charger from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160599499872?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 which i imagine should be a good pairing with the flood of the bar light. Is it going to be too “spotty” for other use (i.e. as a head torch)of should i go for something with more flood than teh xml for when not used as a bike light?

oh and use an old inner tube as a base to sit the torch on the helmet then a couple of velcro straps through the air wents to mount the torch, works a treat

not sloppy, cant feel any play in it at all. Loud creak, just at the start of the upstroke of the pedal on both sides. Unfortunately mate has borrowed my tools so cant swap/check anything out. Don’t want to miss out on a good days riding…

we hired a 5 door citreon berlingo through holidayautos (ended up being avis) for £218 for the week with second named driver, full excess wavier etc. New car with only 5000km on the clock, easy pick up, no worries on drop off. Was a pick up full of fuel and drop off full of fuel. (some are pick up full and drop off empty which i found a bit strange)

Made the initial booking with them but they then got back in touch and said that deal wasnt available but they had one through another broker for £20 more. Bit annoying at the time but turned out ok when there with no issues.

so RS revelatiuons are looking like a pretty good option then. Next problem would be do I stick with the 9mm QR with the current wheel or do i go for the maxxle and change the front wheel at the same time. Would upgrading the wheel /axle be better for future proofing?? Recomendations on a front wheel would be good as well if its the better option.

yea should be fine over the bridge, there is a hard strip (1m strip beyond the white egde line) and am sure the lane widths will be alot wider than other sections further north. It’s the A9 trunk road all the way to Scrabster. The carriageway does narrow north of Clashmore (about 3km north of the bridge)

They are currently sepcialized chainrings, any issue with sticking in a shimano middle ring or will i get shifting issues?

Is it worth just replacing all 3 for a full new set up and with no worries??…..was looking at raceface evolve or team rings for around £65 – £85 or could pick up a deore middle ring for around a £10…

Not sure exactly where you are from in Strathclyde but there are a few regular rides on http://www.lanarkshiremtbclub.co.uk/ (I was from Hamilton originally). Chaterlehault is worth a ride, few trails over by Motherwell, I believe Cathkin Braes also has various trails. Glentress etc is only around 50min by car away, used to ride there alot. Bit out of touch with any recent changes but im sure some other will be able to give some advice.

had my first beginner kettlebell session last friday after my mate was telling me about how good it was for fitness. Was at the local sports centre where they just started it as a new class so was more about the different techniques than weight. Can say it feels like a great work out, was pretty sore for a good few days after it.

Going again tomorrow, hopefully second time won’t be as painfull lol

Will probably get my own for some extra training at home once i have had some practice with the ones at the sports centre and see what weight suits best.

Any good websites for kettlebell tips?

was looking at the defy and ended up with a galaxy s2. Was tempted with the waterproofness durability side of things but ended up going for the larger screen as use it as a second internet browser in the house. The s2 is a much superior phone and although its less “durable” than the defy, will just look after it better, good case etc etc. Kept the old faithful nokia for when i’m out and about and dont want to risk the new phone as well. The costs were fairly similar between the defy and S2 two, this is my first phone contract as was on payg as didnt use it enough to warrent a contract. Happy so far.

Was also looking at the desire, was told it was better than the desire hd as the battery lasts alot longer.

We did a challenge day for school kids and challenged them to build a bridge from magnets and ball bearings (you get the kits in the shops but cant remember what they are called) then tested them by loading the structure with tins of tuna. They had aroud 5min to plan construct and test. went down well and kids enjoyed it. not sure if its just a talk or interactive but thats one idea that worked for me in the past

went for a leather flip case for my smart phone. theory being provides better protection for the larger screen. Does make the phone bigger in the pocket but worth considering the expense of the phone in the first place

wife who is a pharmacist recomended using it on some very bad grazes / cuts. She had to peel me off the ceiling!!! Man did it sting but was effective in sealing the wound.

Petrol on a rag works as a quick remedy if you have it to hand, autoglym also works well. If claying best to clay it after it has all been removed otherwise you’ll be going through clay bars in no time with contamination. Couple of coats of polish and some wax to seal, makes cleaning in the future alot easier and keeps its looking shiney :)

i’m now a bit sceptical about attaching electronic devices like cameras and phones in pouches to the bike. Had an old digital camera i used to take out in a lowepro pouch attahced to the stem for convenience of taking pics quickly, unfortunately it just stopped working. Could just have been it’s time was up but the constant vibrations may have added to that, I don’t know. Now i either stick the replacement in in a pocket or take a bit more time and get it out my bag.

aquapac and ortleib cases are pretty good, see what fits your phone and how you want to carry it. Can also get some waterproof armband holders

anyone tried the black diamond twilight bivy bag[/url]? Only 220g for a bivy bag at £119, seems pretty light, shame about the colour.

Any other recommendations on which bag to get? Currently considering the Alpkit hunka xl at 525g for £40. Is the rab ranger event at £75 worth the extra?

Oh i’m 6’2″ and fairly broadly built shall we say hence considering the hunka xl for extra room ;)

The siltarps certainly are tempting for the weight, are they fairly durable or likely to rip at the first breath of wind?

A mate was up the other day and Learnie was closed for forestry tree felling just now. Not sure how long its on for. Wouldn’t say it was great, the blue is ok, nothing spectacular, some nice views across the Beauly firth but nothing challenging. Have taken some people who havent been ona bike in years there and they didnt struggle. The orange free ride / jump track (not the tabletops at the carpark) is pretty good, good for inspiring confidence for jumps but woudln’t go specifically for that. Didn’t click with the black when i rode it, i found it one minute your on a rocky descent then next a climb, just couldn’t get into a rhythm (that was a few years ago and haven’t ridden it since)

Golspie is awesome, it’s basically a climb to the top (fairly straight forward apart from lactic ladder which is a technical climb) and blast back down to the bottom. Black is fairly rocky at the top, some nice drops / jumps, technical rock gardens, great views. Joins the red further down which flows nicely and great for inspiring confidence. Berm, jump, berm, jump, and breath, so sweet. Can chop and change the routes as there are various link paths to pick out your fav sections. Would def recommend making the effort to ride it.

Have never ridden at laggan yet but heard its very good. It’s on my to do list. Alot of people really rate the red. Some say the black is fairly technical but good fun once you get it dialled.

Theres also the moray monster trails towards Fochabers, have ridden there once and was pretty good day. Not sure what state they are in just now with forrestry felling etc. Worth checking on http://www.moraymountainbikeclub.co.uk/ for a local forum for some up to date info.

Plenty natural riding throughout the area

Cullen – what trails are at Contin?

What deal did you get for mins, text, gift etc cider? Been looking at the defy for a while but i dont use that many mins at the moment (currently on payg around £20 every 3 months) …. guess that may change with a new phone with more uses… was considering buying the phone only and using it on payg, costs about the same as a contract in the long run without the contract tie in…

Was told in phones4u that the upgrades are straight from the net and that the android updgrade to 2.2 was available now….i thought originally is was supposed to be in Q2 of 2011
