FuzzyWuzzy – A couple of well chosen pieces, that is all – the rest is carefully sourced junk shop/skip finds/made by me. The thing is, the expensive JL stuff really makes the rest look like its far more expensive than it really is. Smoke and mirrors.

Hora/Junkyard – the thing is, as dating websites become more popular people go out with their friends to have a nice time safe in the knowledge that they don’t need to try meeting new folk as the dating sites fulfil that role.

Dwarf – I spent a bit of time looking at the competitions profiles, and then did something a bit different! My profile is open and honest, doesn’t have a list of likes and dislikes and is longer than a few lines. I’ve chosen a few things that I am passionate about and written about them. I’ve made sure that what I have written includes my personality if that makes sense. I’ve also chosen photos of me that aren’t torso shots, just regular photos!

As for messaging, I make no reference to a girls looks and use phrases like ‘you sound interesting’, or quote some bit of their profile that I like back at them followed by ‘sounds like a good start’, or some such.

Only time will tell if this approach works….somethings got to, right?!

No experience to speak of yet….i’ve just taken the plunge and registered on PoF. Not really interested in ‘fun’, just want to meet a normal, well adjusted woman who shares my love of bikes, music and interesting cultures. So far i’ve found 2 who might just meet the requirements. First date on Friday with the one i’m most hopefully about. Massively nervous as i’ve never done a blind date before!

That’s normal, it’ll take a good few days for your body to re-adjust, but once it has you’ll sleep like the dead!

Halfords are doing an offer on the Autoglym stuff at the moment. Shampoo, polish, and gloss protection coat. Gave it a go last weekend, very impressive. All 3 for £20.

I saw this and was about to post. Blacked out windows down to 17% visibility, not sure, but fairly certain thats not legal. Can’t make it out, but sounds like he’d stopped in a bus lane…then opens a door with out looking… then claims that the cyclist had ‘lost control’. So what, he opens the door into his path anyway??? Look after yourself out there kids.

Shibboleth – Yawn. What I was trying to convey to the OP was that it didn’t take long for the cat to recover. As the OP stated – “cat haters need not respond”. I also don’t see the need to resort to “irresponsible xxxxwit”. You need to get out into ‘your’ woods and chill out a bit.

My cat had one of its claws removed…hasn’t seemed to of affected him in anyway long term. The claw has now grown back and he is back to full killing/climbing strength!

Fantastic cars! I’ve got the VR6 Storm having always wanted one – its not disappointed. They handle really well – I’ve never noticed any traction problems. The sound of the VR is infectious! As is the acceleration. And the handling! They’re also remarkably practical – I can easily get two bikes in the back. They’re pretty straightforward to service and maintain. Fuel economy isn’t bad* – on a long motorway run I can normally get north of 30mpg – problem is, did I mention that the noise and acceleration is infectious?! Do it. Buy one!

Points to watch for: The electrics are a weak spot. Check the spoiler, sunroof and heaters all work (they’re not big jobs to fix). The timing chain is meant to be good for the life of the car, but some owners get them replaced – give the engine a listen.

This is the font of all knowledge:

You can get to London and back in two hours from Peterborough. I would recommend that. twice.

A classic green Corrado Storm here too. Mines got 135k on the clock, its in pretty decent nick for the age. I love the sound of the VR engine at 4000rpm+. Not fuel efficient, but I can easily get 2 people and 2 bikes + kit in there! Perfect car!

You could add a couple more sections I would have thought, both relating to the benefits to the company of having staff cycle to work. Firstly the health benefits to their staff – healthy worker bees are more efficient, less days off due to illness etc. Secondly, it will improve their image regarding sustainability. Is there car parking on site? Is it tight? Perhaps by encouraging people to cycle this might free up some spaces? You need to tell them why it is of benefit to them.

OP – Footflaps has the answer – toughened outer pane, laminated inner pane. You can get a new sealed double glazed unit fitted by your local glazier. The glazing spec above is what is recommended by the police in the Secured by Design criteria. It will cost a bit more than a bog standard unit, but well worth it for peace of mind.

As above, practising on a gentle gradient helps. I try and think of it a little bit like holding a car on the clutch – its a balance of the right pedal pressure to counteract the gradient. Feathering the brakes can help too.

Will all your furniture fit? Possibly not a big issue, but you might want to budget for a few new pieces. Is your loft, garage, shed full with stuff in boxes? Where will that go? Skip?! HTH

Induction hobs (not the crappy old electric hobs) are great. They are seemingly just as quick and responsive as gas, safer, easier to clean, more efficient and imo look smarter. There are a couple of downsides. You can’t flambe/ignite the contents of the pan from the direct flame in the same way as you can with gas (Good excuse to buy a blow torch!) and your pans must be ferrous (all of them). As for the cleaning of the induction hob/glass top, just use one of those paint removers – the stanley blade type. HTH

Yes, pinch to zoom is very specific, but as mentioned above, its the only sensible way to zoom on a touch screen. As was much lauded by the Apple lot, its intuitive! What about dragging a finger up and down the page to scroll? Could that action be patented? Or indeed panning left or right once your zoomed in? Surely the way in which we interact with devices (be it pc’s, tablets, phones or just about anything else) will inevitably become standardised (kind of like a mouse generally has some buttons on it and a scrolling wheel) once the most desirable method for doing so has been established for a given media. Sure, things will evolve as firms innovate with new tech, breeding a new standard, and yes, the code for that can and should be protected, but not the action in itself.

I’m not a big fan of these myself, but my step dad has a lexus and it’s eerily quiet. Can’t remember which one he has, its the big luxury barge one! Whenever we go anywhere I can’t quite believe the engine is on when we pull off. The silence continues right the way up to license loosing speeds. Its also uber comfortable. Might be worth a look.

A truly horrific disease. We lost my GF’s dad to it earlier this year. Horrible. He degenerated from a highly intelligent, articulate, communicative man to a weak, frail corpse, unable to talk. It still haunts me now. I hope you’re bearing up ok.

My OH commutes into London 2-3 times a week. The cost of a rail card for a year is close to £5k. The train is overcrowded, in-frequent, un-reliable, stops after about midnight and expensive. Instead she takes the bus. Granted, it takes a bit longer, but it stops in multiple places in London, you’re guaranteed a seat, it runs through the night and the years season ticket cost £1k.

In my book anything that involves a panel of judges awarding points for how well something is executed shouldn’t be an Olympic sport, far too subjective for me. So that’s show jumping, synchronised swimming and diving (imagine if diving was just, who could get from the diving board into the water the quickest!).

Woody – what chain device are you running on that? Thats exactly the same as my Lava Dome, tried fitting a Superstar device, but the seat tube is to narrow? They’re great to ride aren’t they?! Don’t sell it!

What car did you get in the end Peter? I didn’t want to start up the ‘yay or nay’ thread again as it seemed to have gotten a bit ridiculous! Hope you’re happy with whatever you went for in the end – enjoy!

Haven’t got any pics with me, but have just finished building a 95 Lava Dome up. I picked the frame up fairly cheaply off of Retrobike, along with some triple butted P2’s. The rest is a mix of bits from the spares box, mostly XT, 1×9, along with some old Hope hubs on mavic 719’s. Just bought some conti Travel Contacts for it. Use it for commuting mainly, but going to fit a rack and mud-guards for a bit of light touring. Absolutely love it, great fun to ride and nice and light.

Beetles are boxer engine configuration which gives them their sound. Not sure for reason of air-cooled engines in general sounding different.
