Basically the main central bit as honeybadgerx mentions, ideally getting in Wastwater and Haweswater East to West and back of Skiddaw down to the A590. It’s more for planning and maybe eventually some wall art than taking out riding. I’ll check out BMC.

    2) France is great for very cheap motels near motor way exits, they’re often open 24/7 and don’t have staff, you pay with your card on a machine. Having said that depending where you set of from it’s doable in one go, especially if you have two drivers.

    3) Take a day trip to Pila, especially if there’s a few days of rain in Morxine.

Does look a good option! Any drawbacks? Currently got a ST HR upfront, good combo?

You could have the redbull stream as is but supplimented by live feed from each riders pov cam allowing you to switch between the 5+ riders that could be on course at any one time.

I think people have unrealistic expectations of what can be done! I’m sure these same people would also be upset if the live pov stream wasn’t crystal clear and had no lag…

I think the coverage is excellent, don’t forget its free! They’ve made a real effort to package it up as a show this year and I think it’s worked.

I’ve had a pair for a few months now. I went for them because I was going through 5.10s too quickly, a lot of my rides involve hike a bike and I found walking in 5.10s separates the sole from the body, and also because of the water retention issue you mentioned.

I can’t comment on their longevity yet but they really don’t need drying out which should help and their construction suggests they wont fall apart from walking.

Performance wise they’ve been great. Grip is almost as good as 5.10 and the layer of D30 does stop them bouncing about. The grip isn’t instant but once you’re settled in they do hold well. They support well too, I wore them at an uplift day at Caerwys and was happy with them.
I was worried they might get a little sweaty but after a 7.5 hour ride in the heat on Saturday they were fine. They’re also much better for walking in as they have some toe and heel grip.

If you can get to Stif I’d recommend trying a pair on because the fit is a bit tight. I’m a bit worried it’ll be a tight squeeze getting the thicker winter lining on with a waterproof socks – which will definitely be needed as while they don’t hold any water, it definitely comes in!

We went through Slovenia on the way to Croatia, with that very much in mind! Unfortunately we ran out of time so had to pass on riding in Slovenia and cut out going back via Lake Garda.

    haha first world problems!

Getting to plan a trip like this would be a dream!

Personally I’d plot a route to Slovenia (having been on a non biking trip I can say its an amazing country that I’m desperate to plant two wheels on) and back. Conveniently the route would take you right through the majority of the Alps.

If it’s between forks and gears go for forks. You’ll be replacing the gears eventually with wear and tear

Nan Bield revenge ride! First and last time riding it me and a friend inadvertently rode via Garburn pass first and hadn’t packed adequate food for the extended ride. The hike a bike from small water with no fuel became one of the hardest things I’ve ever done!

Good point on the lifts opening. Andorra was only 3 or 4 more hours than Morzine driving from the North.

Much harder to get to and probably harder to do on the cheap but Finale would be good if you had to go earlier and the lifts weren’t open elsewhere.

Expand your horizons. Morzine is great, especially if you want there to a bit of nightlife, but there’s certainly better places to ride.

I’d personally recommend Andorra. Might not be the Alps but it’s just as east to get to and is much cheaper. Soldeu and Vallnord are in my opinion better than the parks at Portes du Soleil and more suitable for smaller bikes. The weather is much more guaranteed than the Alps too.

I can’t speak for the trail riding as much and understand the non DH trails at Morzine are becoming more accessible bit there will be plenty around.

I’ve always liked this costal crew section https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w1hNr6nLtzI

Can’t remember which film it’s from (Maybe Kranked 8?) but the song is originally used in another section of the film, I think it works really well though.

Although I don’t think you can go too wrong with Llandegla or any predominantly man made trail centre.

It’ll depend on the standard of each helmet, a top end MIPS open face will be better than a cheapo full face.

My mrs is very happy with her fitbit charge2. It does seem pretty impressive and is definitely a motivator, but be prepared for constant HR updates and for her to jump out of bed at 11.30pm and start running around because Karen from accounting is beating her at a step challenge. On the plus side I’ve learnt you go into fat burn mode while taking a dump!

I use Burgtec Penthouse as I find they offer the most grip, are very durable and stay stiff (don’t spin) for ages.
A friend has Saints and initially didn’t like them, however you can adjust the screws to give more grip and add extra ones to the side of the pedal, after which he found them much better.
Only heard good things about Vaults too.

I agree with Zilog, deadlifts definitely help. James Wilson’s YouTube has a guide cycling specific ones (as well as loads of other exercises).

Making sure you up set up is right with good grips and working brakes and fork certainly help[, but some people are just more susceptible to arm pump than others. Remy Metallier recently put his lack of race results down to incurable arm pump.

I think a proper bike cleaner makes a difference, and it’s good value if you buy it in concentrate form, which also allows you to tailor the strength if you’re worried about it damaging parts of your bike. I prefer Fenwicks to MucOff because you apply it to a dry bike rather than having to rinse it first, which is annoying if you’re paying for a washer.

You’ve basically described Liguria! It goes mountain, picturesque Italian seaside town, beach in about a kilometre! And the riding is unbelievable- see Finale Ligure EWS!

I took my 5.10s with the same problem to Timpsons and they did for either £5 or £10, cant remember, either way they’ve not separated since and £10 is much better than nearly £100 for a new pair.

Thanks guys. Devils Bridge was the original plan but it’s shut in November, as are a lot of them. Will probably have to go up to Dolgellau I think.

I posted the slowest time at this years Grizedale PMBA Enduro!

I flatted at the start of stage 2, swore a lot, pushed down to a fire road, swore some more, chatted to the marshals, arsed around, fixed my puncture then eventually cruised down and actually posted a time. Most people who end their run just post a DNF! Even more annoying, there was a lite version of the race cutting out stage 2, so if I’d have pushed back up and cancelled my run I could have posted a decent time in that category.

I went on holiday to Slovenia this spring (sadly not with bikes) and it was an amazing country, I’d highly recommend it. Message me for ideas of where to stay if you go.

If I had the time I’d do a big road trip in Northern Scotland, take the chance to explore places like Skye and Torridon that you can’t realistically access over a weekend.

Borrowdale bash is an excellent loop, There should be plenty of routes online, my favorite way of doing it is starting Keswick and riding up Walla Crag. That way you finish in town so can go the pub, and can go to Borrowdale YHA for mid ride refreshments.
