    @Duane… correct

Might need Premium to correct the elevation.

I’ve done a basic check on a paper OS Map and the route I did plotted out very close to the Strava figure, so I’m going to stick to that moving forward. Also I can link it to the Just Giving page and it provides more stats, but looks like an extra day will be needed!

    Thanks for the ideas.

Have you calculated the total cost of getting the Blur to a standard you can ride? You could then accurately compare your 2nd hand options against upgrading. 26″ certainly isn’t obsolete yet but options may be limited in comparison to 27.5/29.

@superficial it actually makes “One of Those Days” looks a little dated! The third one still cracks me up every time though plus I bought the same Quiksilver jacket for £70 from TKMaxx!

I’d say proper mountain bike shorts are the essential. With your preferred combo of built in padding or no padding with padded boxers. If you get black they won’t get ruined in the mud and can match with any top.

Tops wise any sporty top will do. I prefer bike specific kit but always wait for a sale. If you’ve got the budget merino tops like Mons Royale are the pinnacle. Although their range can be a bit heavy on logos.
Tech Ts are definitely the way for local rides, especially in lock down when we can’t be hitting the gnar, or for going to the pub post ride when we can.

@colp wouldn’t that be MountainS Biking?

To be fair, unless you’re on an ebike these days, you’re not a proper mountain biker as it’s the only way you’ll ride all the way up and down a few in a day.

Intense are now direct sale from the UK if they will allow that.

Went to Davos in August. We rode the Jakobshorn Treble, Alps Epic and spent one day in Lenzeheide which may not be an option if you’re on public transport.

The Treble as it suggests is three different descents from the same lift station. One has a small extra climb at the end thats not really worth the descent. I’d just shoot back to the lift and spend the saved time riding the bottom half of the manmade trail under the lift a few extra times.

The Epic is incredible, not the most amazing trails but the best day out. 40km one way and a train back.

Third day there’s plenty on the opposite side of the valley and going over to Klosters which we didn’t have time for.

    Check out some highlights. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jb2O0-5MPag&t=525s

@stanfree thanks! Ha yea not a single bar! In fact even outside the bike parks the trail pixies had been out putting the occasional banked corner in or little take off before a drop.

@Northwind yea boi! K2 is near if not at the top of best trails ever ridden! Unfortunately we only had half a day in the park as we did Colle Della Croc in the morning and rode Pila the next day. Would happily have spent a week just in La Thuile!

If you get more flats than you can tolerate then yes. I’m planning on getting the new Nuke Proof set with a mate and using one each on the back wheel.

Bigyinn has a fair point. Needed a good smack with a hammer. Still, having never done it before I would not have wanted to put that much force onto part of an expensive component.

Yea makes sense there can’t be any play.

Only got some smaller sockets that came with a torque wrench and none are wide enough to allow the mount to protrude.

    Best rides of 2019

Ard Rock – did the Sport and just got onto the 2019 enduro!

Torridon – now my favourite trail in the UK

Ae DH – dusty downhilling in Scotland!? Hit the coffin jump for the first time.

If money isn’t a crucial factor and having to rent abroad is a concern why not buy a bike box?

Funn make a version of the Mamba which only has the spd one side. My mate has them and they work ok, still not optimum grip on the flat side bit could be a solution.

    OWN – only whats neccessary

    https://www.onlywhatsnecessary.com/

I’ve had these for a while, over all I’d give them a mixed review, but what they are excellent for is wet and cold weather riding.

The outer is made from kevlar, has zero padding and can’t get wet. You get two inners, one is thicker for cold weather. I have never had cold or wet feet since I started wearing them, including 6+ hour rides in the wet. In addition because they don’t get wet they don’t need drying either, which eliminates the slow drying or glue melting issues with other shoes, and the inners dry overnight.

On the down side they are not as grippy as 5.10s, they’re not bad, but definitely not as good. One of the main reasons I bought them was durability, as highly as I rate 5.10s I tend to go through a pair in about a year. I was hopeful these would be bombproof however unfortunately part of the sole has come off the bottom of the shoe. I’m hoping they are fixable and they’re currently at a cobblers, its hard to explain but the shoe hasn’t fallen apart and is still water tight, but the grippy bit of the sole has separated so should be able to be glued back down.

If the repair holds I’ll get a pair of 5.10s to wear in dry conditions, hopefully prolonging both shoes’ lifespan.

Was about to suggest the site letitreign beat me to! Will also second Ulloch Pike as a good 2nd day option. Will be unpopular but if it gets dangerously bad weather have Whinlatter as a back up.

For a big day out you could combine Penmachno and Gwydir Mawr (Marin). You can link them or shuttle in between, and can do all of both or highlights of both.

I went to a few of these a couple of years ago. Very friendly and relaxed vibe and you get multiple timed runs on the race track. They’re not full on DH tracks and only short, I’ve raced enduros that have tougher sections.

If you’re getting a headache it could be a neck strain. I had a similar thing a few years ago and one back massage to release tension in my neck stopped it instantly.

I had some good specialized ones that clipped together nicely with a magnetic strip that also added some stiffness

Rode NYA and Climach 18 months ago. I’d 100% say go to Climach. NYA is OK and they’ve put in a pump track but I found it a fairly dated trail center with a lot of fire road, more like a poor natural ride than a trail center. Climach is much more fun and has a lot of hidden stuff if you want.

Climach is closer to Dolgellau too.

I’m sure most SPD 5.10s have a fairly standard sole with a hole cut out for the cleat, might even have a cover you can clip over the hole if not using it.

Skiddaw (search SkiddawSlateyScreamPlummetDeath on Strava) and Ulloch Pike is hard to beat on a clear day. Could do back o’Skiddaw first if you wanted to add mileage.

This website covers most of the classics https://lakesmtb.co.uk/lake-district-routes/

One not on there that is worth considering if you’re up for a full dayer and don’t mind a hike a bike (or 4) is the 4 passes. http://my.viewranger.com/route/details/OTIxOTE=

There’s some fun trails and I didn’t mind the pedal up, but I’d rather see a day ticket option, £20 for a season ticket is fine for locals but a bit discouraging if you’re only likely to go once, which bearing in mind the location must happen a lot.

    OK that’s great.

    So what about format?

lesgrandepotato what would you like a company/guide/host do for you on a big overland route? Personally I’d want essentially rider support, all the advantages of bike packing without being encumbered by kit on the ride.

Or do most people only want gravity if they’re paying for it?

Look at Loam Apparel on Facebook. The shop is shut at the moment, think it’s a one man operation, but the clothes are cool and good quality
