If you suffer from Hayfever take lots of medication. It’as right in the middle of Hayfever season and ruined it for me when i went.

Infact if i ever went back i would actually wear a full face respirator, and claim it was some steam punk fashion thing.

I thought the film was ace.

The film could never explore the depth of character the books can achieve, but cruise does a very good job. Don’t get hung up on the height thing just enjoy it.

As a community development officer I can safely say academic knowledge/skills would in no way prepare you for how social housing really is. Saying that I did artificial intelligence at uni so what the hell would I know?!?

Woodford reserve is good. Also although not really bourbon, I’m enjoying a bottle of gentleman jack, real smooth and less burn but with the smoky/woody taste of bourbon.

    A wet halfpipe.

Something you only do once though

If you really have no responsibilities and can drop everything, then do it. Life’s too short.

Just remember to start a thread entitled ‘right I’m off’ just before you leave and keep us all updated.

In the meantime why not ride with a club? It’s a great way of riding your bike with company.

Lightweight race hardtail with a mix of old and new bits.

Currently pondering either 100mm or rigid carbon forks, first race is end of feb so really need it done by jan so I can get used to riding it.

I thought the op wanted cheering up, not putting cycling for life.

Plenty of chuckles in there, but some of them must had severe injuries from those face plants

Years ago, an old mate of mine had an over the bars when he hit a parked car. Lying on the bonnet he seemed fine, until he saw the blood and realised he’d caught his sack on one of the thumb shifters and ripped it open.

He has kids now so can’t gave done too much damage.

Website reckons about 5km and it’ll take 30 minutes a lap for normal people.

The OP is worried about entering the Fun cat but is talking about training.

There is a ‘first timer’ category that just didn’t seem right. Then it goes ‘fun’, ‘enthusiast’ then ‘pro/expert’.

I ride on average once a week, and at 33 am no spring chicken. I am planning on using this race as a warm up for the midlands xc series which I’d like to have a go at.

Like many I’d like to be fitter, but always find excuses not to ride, I am hoping entering a race will give me the focus to get out more. As a reference for my fitness, on a good day I can do ftd at Cannock in about 40 minutes, surely that’s not considered fast?

In fact he does pretty reasonable and informative videos and runs the Silly Cyclists website which highlights good and bad roadcraft from cyclists.

Nice find that site, never seen it before.

I must admit i thought the guy a bit of a tool, but i have just watched the latest episode of silly cyclist and tbh it’s changing my mind.

He recalls that the pilot made a pass over the school and waved to kids in the playground before turning round to drop a bomb.

Speechless. That has made my blood run cold

This place does get a bit mumsnet sometimes.

Why not take the oportunity to show your kids the ‘stinky people sucking on death sticks’ and explain why it’s so bad?

Your can’t hide things from kids, so educate them before someone else does.

Used to do it all the time in my late teens, hanging out at maccies in my mg metro turbo with mates who had similar 80s hot hatches.

Mainly it was nerdy blokes talking about dump valves and polished manifolds, with the chance to check out each others cars. Although we would cruise around playing loud music and revving our engines there was no proper racing, and in fact most were pretty well behaved.

But like most groups of people there were idiots who always took things too far and often ended up crashing, getting nicked or killing someone.

When max power magazine started featuring cruises in their mag, which mainly involved dangerously young girls getting their baps out, I just realised it wasn’t for me.

Back then I would fret over what colour HT leads matched my oil cap, nowadays I worry will my nukeproof stem look good with my ragley bars.

Not much has changed I guess

Get a cheap one off eBay and give it a go.

I found that, rather than tackling the halfpipe, just practising basic things like manuals, flat 180s and fakies was fun with little chance of falling off, plus they are skills that help on the mtb.

Don’t worry about the yoof, they won’t bat an eyelid

I work in boldmere which is great for lunchtime blasts round Sutton park, and right opposite a bike shop too!

I was planning to ride into town tonight down the sustrans route through perrybar, until I saw the weather. But I’ll be doing that next time if anyone’s interested, it’s about 5 miles of flat cycle path through the parks

Having a bit of lunchtime search for tunnels and this came up

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham/content/image_galleries/tunnel_vision_fierce_gallery.shtml?5

It’s an old Railway tunnel that has been disused for years, and runs from the mailbox to new street station. It’ll be securley locked up, but they did open it in 2007 for an art exhibition.

I might try and find out who owns it, and see if they would let us in to ride it.

How awesome would it be to hoon down that at speed?!? it’s gotta be a few hundred metres long!

nicely timed bump it is too, i was just looking at google earth for riding spots!

I know steps and multi storey carparks are on the agenda, but i quite fancy riding some tunnels. There seems to be a canal tunnel by the edgbaston uni campus, so perhaps we could ride from five ways through the campus (as there are bound to be some steps there) and then over a bridge through the tunnel and up the canal to Brindley place. It doesn’t look too far, and who knows what we might find on the way.

Blimey quite a few to sample, cheers guys!

Just got in from a very wet ride, went for some slayer in the end, followed by focus – hocus pocus which had me pedalling like a maniac.

Going to have a browse later and put together a playlist
