  • RedBull Hardline – Bigger In Real Life, But Is It Worth The Effort?

I think i saw somewhere Shimano are 48.8mm but can’t find it now.

Hmmm RaceFace, I have the SixC bars and lov’em. But having already been stung on buying a ‘niche’ brand I may stick with big S.

I’m not far (other end of Surrey Hills) and would like to ride over that way sometime, may do. Tooth count would be handy tho.

Simwit ta, what rings (tooth count)?

“However, the Soul is designed for chainsets with a 50mm chainline and the Shimano 2×10 systems have a 48mm chainline and larger inner rings so may not clear the chainstays. Srams double chainset has a 50mm chainline and will work with your Soul frame.”

Hence, I want to hear from someone who has done it.

I have a Truvativ (SRAM) crankset but the rings are worn out now and either impossible to replace or ****ing expensive. Since I need a BB too it may just be cheaper to switch to Shimano and be done.

Funny think is David, Cotic said SRAM may be a better fit. Or did you think I was asking just to exercise my fingers?

    No.

By the way mboy my meaning with the comment you quoted was on the 2.1 vs 2.25s. I’m happy with the 2.25s and doubt the ting weight loss of the 2.1s would be of noticeable benefit.

I figure I might as well save probably 1lb of rotating weight off my bike if I can as it will be less effort at least

I noticed the benefit immediately, it’s a big win.

    @ tinaspoon – how long?

Hard to say – but I ran SRAM 9 speed chains on Shimano for years with the very occasional breakage, about the same rate as anyone else.

Since I went to 10 speed it’s got stupid though.

That apart my 2×10 with SRAM shifters is a great set up, I don’t want to revert.

Ta – should pretty much any Shimano 10 speed work or are some specific to their cassettes etc? I’m on X0 shifters/mech with a SRAM cassette, Truvativ crankset.

He’s highly competent but please point me to what we should be running if we’re missing something. We’re running Postfix, with Google Postini handling inbound spam management.

I want to be able to send email, with the from address correctly set as my business domain (of which there are several) with no “on behalf of” nonsense, while connected to the net with Virgin Broadband. I currently use Zen successfully for this but will probably switch to Virgin soon if I can resolve this.

50mm stem – twitchy surely? Tried a small frame?

I’m the same size as Cotic Paul and rode a buddy’s 29er and felt the same: I’d say Cotic have it bang on in that quote.

26 is right for me, for what I do. My taller riding buddies ride 29ers very well. We both ride what’s in proportion and it looks/feels right.

Follow up: Google Apps looks to be a PITA for multiple domains.

    I’m trialling this: http://www.authsmtp.com/

Seems to do just what I need.

Maybe that’ll help someone in the future.

    I am calm

god help us if he gets angry then!

Ive had a large soul & it just didnt feel quite big enough

    how is it set up?

I’m bang on the cusp between small and med, Cotic advised me to get a small and I did, not totally convinced.

I started with 660mm bars on a 90mm stem and it felt just wrongly sized, I was convinced I should have got a medium.

Then I messed about a bit and tried 725mm bars on a 70mm stem, it’s bang on and there is no way I would want a longer tt (and hence stem shorter or bars narrower).

Cotic actually recommend a short/wide setup somewhere, turns out they were right!

    Perhaps you could try that.

bugger look wot u done. yesterday I was happy & content with my bike, now I want a droppy post and a frame to match it.

    mattjg

Tim for reasons we can only guess and Cotic probably won’t disclose, it seems they don’t want to make what you want. Perhaps they feel their time and energy is more usefully invested elsewhere, but that’s just conjecture. Right or wrong, that’s their privilege.

Also, speaking as a lower-medium height person, who’s too small to make the best of a 29er IMO, I think Kelvin’s point is valid. If a 26er fits me nice, surely someone your height would be better on a 29er.

But if you know what you want, go get a frame builder to make it for you. In essence, it’s a bunch of metal tubes welded together, it’s not magic. You can do what you want really, (other then use someone else’s trademarks, so you can’t call it a Cotic).

hmmm I do feel a dropper coming on if you’ll pardon the expression.

… does that mean I need a Soul with a bigger seat tube?!

… and does that mean I then need new headset cups for my inch and eighth forks? and won’t they look pants sticking out of a wide tapered headtube?

back where we started I think

    mattjg

I’m still in the “dropper is another piece of kit to go wrong camp”, but several people whose opinions I respect love them.

It’s probably only a matter of time …

    mattjg

wider bars, I’m only 5’8″ and am very happy on 725mm for XC/ST

    mattjg

did the top plate get bent or damaged somehow while it was off the bike?

if 2 grown ups with the kit in hand can’t resolve it, it’s unlikely posting on a forum can I think

I guess you need to find a buddy with the same widget and try theirs. I am in Surrey and have X0 bought last autumn if that helps.

    mattjg

Have done this many times and never had an issue.

    The obvious things first:
    * you have the plate orientate correctly?
    * something inside is fouling it laying down correctly?

why can’t they sell x10 XL’s world wide then?

perhaps they can but have concluded the people who would buy them might be inveterate whiners

Cotic’s marketing is brilliant, this forum is full of Cotic threads. How do you think I came to buy one when I decided I wanted a HT?

    mattjg

    And it does look nice.

Reassuring to see so much seatpost on that pic, mine’s like that, more than once I’ve been told it’s too small for me, it’s way fun to ride tho.

Of course. Get one, go wear it out.
