sorry Mr Nutt, but I could probably do with a few more blocks on there for the loam/sand/mud/clay round here.

when they had all the knobbles on, how did they ride though?

Lizard Skins Peaty. Not too fat and still grippy under horrid clay mud.

(and more importantly, available in white)

hmm, just seen Mr Nutts ad for the magic knobble removing ignitors…

Might just stick with what i know and go for the bonys then (plus will support the lbs)

even more importantly – what are ignitors like as an all round tyre? Am looking at a LUST set of these and tubeless ready Bonty ACXs.

they are very hard metal. have a set of fat ones that were not quite fat enough to fit my old klein dropouts, and despite a lot of effort i could only remove about 0.0001mm of material.

You are welcome to my MKS chaintugs for £10 posted if you want?

i have been suffering from this since being stupid enough to solo at SITS last year. Lots of rest has helped, but it still niggles. Reading the Andy Pruitt bike medicine book, it would seem that dropping the saddle height a little can help (seems to have helped me) and also look at the angle of your cleats if you run clipless. He says that too much toe pointing ‘in’ can aggravate it too – putting pressure on the outside of the knee.

It is also suggested that a decent ‘base’ mileage of training is helpful to reduce this, so build uo very gradually. Although oddly, I have been finding that riding SS off road is not too bad (probably due to standing a lot) whereas even a fairly short gentle road ride aggravates it a lot.

I got a pair of Stans Flows on Pro2 SS which seem to work well. Nice and wide so your tyre has a good profile and easy to fit/remove tyres on too. I went for the extra wide ones as they added very little weight over the Arch and I need my wheels to last a long time.

I love the noise from the freewheel too :)

i have both SLX and XT on different bikes. I am not sure that I would bother spending the extra again on XTs though (although they look better, have neater calipers and say XT on them)

cheers for the tips. I have also seen on mtbr that cold weather can make them worse. That’s useful on a winter SS

    Mine. 1993 Klein Fervor

Now has a yellow flite and some pedals:

Has been retired and replaced with a generic inbred – i wanted discs and bounce (and better modern handling)
