    I love big old Citroens.

Holidays to France are always a good opportunity to spot them

When I was younger my parents had a BX estate which was probably the last quirky family car they made. That had the green suspension globes.

As others have said Ebay/Paypal dispute process means you’re covered. But

Really? You bought something on Ebay without a photo of the actual item? You may be little too trusting.

    Hope everything works out.

Right now i’m wearing contact lenses for distance and +1.0 readers for my phone / ipad.
Much easier for me. I’m 49, 50 in February

Over the last year or so I’d got to the point where varifocals were needed.

For my glasses I’ve got some fancy Zeiss lenses that are very good.

I was planning something similar for my contact lenses. But the optician suggest getting one lens for close up and one for distance. As long as you don’t think about it your brain just copes. I assumed this would be awful but it’s brilliant. Sight restored and no need to buy expensive lenses.

If you are at all interested in space then An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield is great.

A mix of biography and guide to how to be an astronaut. A very talented and modest man.

if it’s a dual electric make sure you have a suitable electricity supply available.

Ours is on it’s own fused spur from the box

I’ve had a Smeg range cooker for about 12 years.

    Key points:

Get electric oven and gas hob.

I have two ovens but the smaller one is so narrow it’s rarely used. For 95% of the time a really big main oven would be better.

Find out how much the parts are. I’ve bought a few new elements now and I could have bought a new oven given how much I’ve spent.

I’ve just discovered that my 56 plate Passat does this. Cool

    Why would you want this?

Having recently hit the age where I need reading glasses as well as distance glasses I’ve gone for the multi focal in both glasses and contact lenses.

For the glasses I went for the most expensive option. (Price seemed to control how much of the lens you could actually see through). Generally they are excellent although you do get an odd sensation if you tilt your head while looking at something. A bit like a tilt shift movie.

For the contact lenses I went for the cheaper approach. Basically one lens it optimised for distance and one for close up. You’d think it wouldn’t work but it has been brilliant. A lot cheaper than multifocal and (from what the optician said) better.

Sinn is a good call. Proper watchmaker. I love mine. But I think it busts the budget.

There are cheaper models but starting price is around £750

I’ve been wearing them for 20 years. Generally brilliant.

Recently I’ve needed my glasses changing for close up work. A quick tweak and I can continue using my contact lenses. One eye does distance and one close up.

If you can use the dailies then do. They have been the most comfortable ones.

And you soon learn to put them in and take them out without pain.

Pro tip: avoid taking your lenses out just after cutting raw chillies.

but lack of train sounds like my regular trips to London or airport could be a challenge

There is a direct train from Shipley to Kings Cross every morning. Gets in before 9.00.

Lots of good suggestions. Wherever you end up I’d recommend being on the train line. That’s one problem with Otley.

Being able to go out in Leeds and then easily get the last train home is a definite advantage. The Aire valley and Wharfe valley train service is generally excellent. Anyone who suggests otherwise should try commuting into London for example.

Personally I like Oakleys and have 4 or 5 pairs.

Obviously cheaper ones are available. But if you buy a pair for £3.50 of Ebay would they block UV etc. Not sure I’d want to take the risk.

I’ve sold stuff to Europe and beyond.

I think Royal Mail is OK for small items. Otherwise I use Parcel2Go to get the cheapest price.

I made my own. Got the wood cut to size when I bought it. Easy to do. And so much more heavy duty than the ones you buy.

Just voted. No one else there.

Of the 10 names on the Euro ballot at least 7 could be easily labelled as Nutters. Including what appeared to be a party wanting independence for Yorkshire from the rest of the UK!

Yes it is. Just not in Leeds, West Yorks.

It’s always fun when visitors ask where the castle is.

My dualit 4 slice toaster was bought in 1998
Perfect toast every day for 16 years so far

Our two-slicer was a wedding present in 1995. Haven’t had to change an element yet.

My two slice dates from 1998. Still on the original elements .

Perhaps Dualit realised that making a toaster that never breaks was not a good long term business model.

Etymotic do lots of different ear buds so you should be able to get a good fit.

I have a pair with a remote that controls the iPhone which is quite useful.

    Bit pricy though.

Everyone of a certain age will say Texan bars.

When I was a child that was my weekly treat. A texan bar to eat while watching The Muppets.

High price, high margin stuff I will haggle on. Jewellery for example.

If they offer interest free credit then you know they’ll knock something off for cash.

A few years ago I went on a sales course with work. The trainer was very keen on haggling. After the course I tried haggling on lots of things. My wife and I were looking to get new coats. I asked if they could do us a deal if we bought both. Apologetically they said they could only give us 10% off. So about £50 saved by just politely asking.

    Parrot here.

Does music, calls and sat nav. Remote control.

Invisible once fitted. It has a bluetooth connection and also a wired lead which will also charge the phone.

Total cost was about £200 including fitting.

Why was the vicar not in church giving a sermon or whatever when they were watching the Andrew Marr show?

They don’t watch the programs live. There was something the other day that said they saw them a few times before the show is recorded.

Still, it helped prove my argument that we didn’t need to put stupid plastic covers on all electrical sockets because the RCD consumer unit would ensure they couldn’t electrify themselves by pushing something into the sockets anyway.

(I didn’t *win* the argument, but my point stood).

I thought that the current view was that the plastic covers were dangerous as they circumvented the covers to the live and neutral that sockets have.

If you’re trying something new, use tiny amounts rather than a pile of food.

Spot on. With ours the first step was just to have some on the plate. Then move on to just sampling it.

I know we have probably been too soft with him.
But now the HV has said to plate up his tea (a smaller portion of our tea) and if he does not eat it he is going to have to go hungry until breakfast!
    He leaves and goes hungry!

That sounds hard but it’s probably what I would suggest. And his diet doesn’t sound bad. At one point our eldest would only eat chicken nuggets and garlic bread.

Do you eat together? A family meal can encourage them to eat. Not you all sat around telling him to eat. Just eating together. And praising him when he tries something new.

My youngest daughter could often be persuaded with a race. First one to finish your peas. And let her win!

The card can be kept in the wallet but not the paper that comes with the card.

It does if you fold it neatly.

You have to replace the photo card every 10 years or so anyway as they need an up to date picture. You can do it online but they charge more for that than filling in the form.

    Neither of those are sheds

Agreed. I have two sheds but neither are quite a nice as those.

Do people actually sleep in the Pool House? Given how far north you are I would guess it is quite chilly.

Obviously happy to vote for you. I assume we can vote online multiple times.

My Seiko SPORK, (not the one pictured) is more accurate than my TAG Heuer quartz. Took a bit of tweaking, mind, but I could do that myself, not something I could do with the TAG. Took four attempts.

How do you tweak it? Mine can be slow at time.

See the pink bit near the top of the picture? There is pointer and a scale from “plus” to “minus”. Moving the pointer to “plus” should make the watch run faster.

Warning – You need to remove the case back to do this and you could break your watch. A watchmaker would be able to do this easily and time the watch accurately.
