It’s up to 69 pages now so you’ll need a fresh mug of tea but here is everything you want to know!

Ha! I enjoyed that. Some very natty observations that have haunted my bicycle fetish also. N+1 doesn’t even been to explain it!

I know its only a bike but its not only a bike! That is genuine MTB heritage. Please, whoever buys it, look after it or I will find you and I will hurt you!

In my utterly unscientific tests I have noticed no difference between using FGS chocolate drinks and milk+nesquick+banana in a blender, the latter being considerably cheaper. That said I do like the FGS drinks and will happily scoff one post-ride. The concept is spot on of feeding your muscles with protein and carbs ASAP after a hard/long ride to promote recovery.

Well that was a fun read! The op shares his good news that he is off the tubby list by fair means and just gets a load of grief from Solo for not posting his full medical history and backing up his methodology with a **** Harvard system based reference list.

    Mental. Just mental.

At that age I used to do exactly the same thing. We would drink, have camp fires, eat over cooked baked potatoes and wonder where all the girls were

If he asked you and his mum to help him out with getting some booze you are on to a winner. If he was pretending that it would be all tee total, then i would worry. He will probably get smashed. It probably won’t be the last time. But so long as there are plenty of other things in his life he is bothered about then it will only serve to teach him that getting paralytic in a field is a mugs game. Life is best learnt by doing it. For everything else there is the Internet.

Keep talking to him and all will be well.

I would say that it will work so long as you are trying to cover the amount of sprockets it was intended for. In other words, if it is a 9spd mech it may be a no no with a ten speed cassette.

And I think the difference between this two mechs is cage length.

Never seen that before. Looks like a straight up manufacturing fault. If they don’t roll over with a refund and an apology I will be very surprised. I would also hesitate to ride that brand again. I don’t want to even imagine what would have happened of you had had to hop a curb and pulled up on the bars! 8O

Just had operation number 6 to fix my double wrist fracture in April 2012. So that was my most recent crash! Got a double wrong at Mabie and it cost me a year of the MTB. Nearly there now though.

I had those rebas on my swift. Do you find them flexy? They made me crap myself every time I grabbed a bit of front brake. I swear they flexed 7 or 8 cm back under braking. 8O

    It won’t work.

    Lorries and coaches are why.

Think about a long vehicle leaving the roundabout. When they have to pause in the exit zone to give way to cyclists, their arse is left out in the roundabout. All traffic flow stalls behind them.

    Dumb idea.
    Next.

I had a guy buy my go pro. Same story as you, all working until a week after he received it. Sounded suss as he had waited a full week to tell me ot was not working. He asked for a refund. I refused and suggested the first of all he try a firmware upgrade, then if that didn’t work it could have been damage in the post and in which case he could claim against the carrier as it was insured.

The winning move for me was when he agreed it was probably damaged on transit. So I offered him the details by which to claim against the post office. Nothing from him for a week then an email saying the firmware upgrade worked, it was all fine and sorry for bothering me!

Lesson? Don’t just rollover and offer refunds at the first sniff of a problem.

Avoid diclofenc. It inhibits bone knitting. That is from Mr Rob Farnell, consultant hand and wrist surgeon who has rebuilt both my wrists.

I go for the over the counter paracetamol (500g) and codeine (8g) from boots. Seen me through knee surgery, broken heel bone, two cracked ribs and 6 operations on my arms.

Guess what? It depends on lots of things. Needless to say, buy a good quality bike and good quality wheels and you shouldn’t have an issue.

In answer to your question, I think they are easier on rear wheels. It stands to reason.

Out of interest what wheels are you trashing?

You need to know the width of your bb shell. Normally 68mm or 73mm.

I nicked from an old stw thread as it explains it well. Thanks go to Matthew h for this one.

You definitely need at least one. If your BB shell is 68mm wide then you need 2 on the driveside and one on the non-drive. If your BB shell is 73mm wide then you only need one on the dive side. They mount between the cup and the BB shell.

    Tons.

Yarnbury lead mines north of grassington.spin up the road to grassington then conistone.
Head up from conistone past the TV mast towards mossdale scar, take the tracks that lead south east towards the lead mines. Mess about on the old lead mines. Once you’ve had enough fun, head back down the track alongside Hebden beck (great descent but look out for gates ) then scoot along the lanes back burnsall.

We do this quite regularly, its a lovely ride.

If you don’t fancy that, head into threashfield moor to the west.

    Have fun!

The reason you see so many T4s and 5s is they are bloody great! Here’s mine. Ikea children’s bedroom storage, bed/seat from cannons forge, wall carpet from maplin, table made by me. All in for under a grand and its my everyday vehicle too. Faultless and great to drive.

Get one, you won’t regret it.

Crashing is a bad thing. I haven’t ridden my Five in over a year now thanks to 2 broken wrists, 6 operations and il’l never regain full use of of my right wrist. Crashing sucks the big one.

He should have used his mirrors (seeing you), indicated ( you would have seen that) and then both of you would have made a move in full awarness of what was going on. So technically he is in the wrong.

However, My personal rule number one is assume all other road users have not seen me, then plan my move accordingly. It has served me well.

I’d love to have the cash to try out one of Jeffs bikes. Regardless of the aesthetics, I have to applaud him for continuing to ask big bold questions about bicycle design. He is the closest thing to Alex Moulton that the MTB world has and that can only be a good thing.

I don’t think we will ever know the answer until someone does some back to back tests on otherwise identical bikes with PowerTaps or similar.
In fact, considering the marketing budgets of the big manufacturers, it’s surprising none of them have done this to prove that their new bikes really are better than their old ones.

Or have I missed it somewhere ?

They haven’t done this because they all still sell all the wheel sizes. Simple.

Er, man bites work mate and gets 10 days off? Football should be ashamed of itself for the following:
    1) Employing violent idiots
    2) being unable to properly discipline the idiots when they are violent.

Dogs and kids. That’s the issue here. Not which dog but any dog.

I own a high energy patterdale terrier. He’s daft and thinks everyone wants to play. So many kids are fearful of dogs and get jumpy around them, Eddie thinks its play. So I keep him on a lead around kids and never leave him alone with them. He won’t bite but he could push them over easily. I think that makes me responsible. More dog owners should be.

Dogs will more often than not just mirror a humans behaviour. If you are calm, they are calm. If you run, they run. If you are aggressive…you know the rest. Why this fact is beyond some dog owners is beyond me.
