If you want to take it riding then think carefully about the size of the body you choose. I have a canon eos 50d and it would be a complete pain to take riding unless the point of the ride was to take shots. It’s just too bulky and heavy.

If it is the case that you want to take more control over you photography and integrate it into your riding then you may be after a compact system camera. There’s loads to google about them so I won’t bore you.

Needless to say though, any body is only as good as its glass.

Not the same injury but I did have 400 days off the mountain bike last year ( and a bit ) due to smashed wrists. My best advice is to go ride some trails that are steady for you and you know inside out. It will allow you to gauge how you really feel and keep any anxiety to a minimum and just enjoy being back on the bike.

Unless you have been doing something else you will be way less fit. Just accept this and give it time.

It does feel bloody great to be back though. I can promise you that.

    Argh!
Thinking now I will persist for a while ( just got the epic bleed kit in anticipation of needing it) but keep my eyes open for replacement.

I stand corrected gentlemen. It was all much easier before sprockets hit double figures!

But a mech is a mech. So long as the pull ratio is same.

Er, mr blobby, I’d love to know why you say it wouldn’t? I have run many bikes with mismatched shifters and mechs. The mech doesn’t know how far it is allowed to go between stops, only how far it is allowed to go in its entire range.

I have two bikes in the cellar like this right now. One with 10 spd dura ace bar end shifters running an 8 spd xtr mech on a 9 spd sram casette. The other has 9speed tiagra shifters running a 7spd 105 mech over an 8of9on7 cassette (google this if your no sure what it is – it’s a sheldon brown trick)

The bottom line Jordie is that if your mech has the same or more speeds than your shifter it will work. In some cases, like I have outlined you can get the mech to stretch a little bit further than shimano intended!

Shattered both my wrists last year. 7 operations, 32 screws, 6 plates, fused right wrist, need wonky bars on all my bikes to hold on properly now. Wrists ache most of the time. Stopping never crossed my mind.

I’ve only just started logging my rides with Strava ( because that’s what’s it’s for!) and on one of my regular flatter rides I got a 3rd place on a section I didn’t know existed. I’m only a few secs off second but the KOM is by a dude who only logged that one insignificant section and did it at an average of 41mph! Therefore I claim 2nd by default!

Seriously, Use it to log your rides and measure your performance. Take no notice of the performance of others unless you want it to end in grief. There lies the road to ruin…

Keep the faith dude. I’m coming out of my own year and a half recovery. I had my 7th op today actually. In my early days I took some genuine inspiration from Chris Akriggs videos about his accident and recovery. Have you seen them?

Jeese… I only wanted to ask about battery performance. Can we all please be nice and get back on topic.

    UNTIL NOW

Ha, good point. Although a surly doubt my old head master is even drawing breath let alone frequenting this forum so I reckon I got away with it

I work at the local outdoor centre as quoted in the harrogate news article (Dave will be amused that his appearance in the news has ended up here!). We are now taking groups there and its great for teaching.

It is what it is. Short but very good considering the circumstance. Yorkshire water are very clear on their policy for building more – if they perceive the demand they will allocate the funds. So ride it, tell them you like it and the good folks at Yorkshire water will put their hands deeper into their pockets and build more.

Sit here and slag it off and then see how much free trail building takes place. I know which tack I will be taking.

His choice. All the way. I’ve been watching his career since the beginning and he has always impressed me. I have a lot of respect for someone who knows there own mind and has the courage to follow it no matter what the challenge.

Big floor tiles are pretty easy to come by on eBay. Lots of colours and easy to fit/clean/ replace. I use them in my camper van.

When I was a kid my mum (a teacher) got
fed up of crap spelling in letters from school so she highlighted all the mistakes and sent it to our local paper (south Wales argus). It was then picked up by the sun who ran the story. My sister and I could barely keep straight faces in the assembly where the head master held the paper aloft and went purple with rage describing what he would do when he found out who sent it in. We were never busted.

I’ve just got an xperia z. After having similar thoughts about being too big I am very happy with it. It seems to tick your other boxes so I would say check it out. I also seem to remember rumours of a mini version being promised. Waterproof too!

10th in the road challenge here. If i had done today’s 77km yesterday I would have made 5th i think! All good training miles for the tour de Ben Nevis in a few weeks.

My dad uses it all the time (motorcycle enthusiast).

I got some and the first thing I did was make a mount in one of the vents of my road bike helmet for a tiny tiny little veho muvi camera. Works a treat. Only issue is that sticky tape won’t stick to it. Other than that, top stuff with a million uses.

I don’t do ‘heros’ but JMC comes as close as it gets for me.

I remember finding out whilst watching cycling on eurosport at my grandads house and David Duffield announced it in the middle of his race commentary. He couldn’t quite believe what he was saying and I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. Google wasn’t an option back then so it took a while to be true.

Real Russian madness has its roots. If you can find ‘ A glorious way to die’ somewhere it is well worth a watch if only just to see what the privations of pseudo communism will drive men to do.

    Meanwhile, here’s the Trailer[/url]
