    Been there, made the comeback.

    My story….

Things do work out better than you think. I’m back kayaking properly now too. Ran my first grade four post-accident the other day. Next purchase is a pull up bar as I’ve been given the all clear for climbing again.

    Chin up fella.

Judging by the amount of threads about thefts from garages may I suggest you start with some kick ass security?

I’m not too sure what happened tbh. It was mounted on the frame twixt the saddle & the mech.

    User error

Ah, experience. Life’s cruel yet effective ( sometimes) learning process.

My wife and I had the exact same problem in Hebden Bridge the other day (Calderdale council?). Easily solved.

Valid ticket blown on to floor due to open window/not using the sticky bit . CEO wrote a fine for us. We found it. Wife sent a letter with a copy of valid ticket to the address for disputes that was on the fine. About a week later we got the reply saying all was well and no fine will be enforced.

Hope it works out for you OP

That’s some bad luck there Jekyll but…..

How the fudge does a light mount result in a mech hanger snapping? I just can not picture that one, where the funk was the mount mounted?

Light ‘probably’ ok. Battery ‘ probably’ crap, charger will ‘probably’ go bang.

My solution to your problem has been to get a Solarstorm x2 head unit (about £13 off of that there ebay), then a battery from Torchy (find him on here) and I already had a safe charger ( Torchy can do those too)

I managed two episodes of the wrong mans before the predictability become too much to bear.

Drifters made me chuckle though. Living in that neck of the woods made it work for me.

Now, radio comedy is where it’s at. Have you heard any of the New comedy awards on radio 4 extra? and if ’Tom Tuck goes straight to DVD’ comes up somewhere again you will thank me for it. Truly genius.

Cheers Jamie, that fixed it. But it’s a gaff that shouldn’t occur.
Have the powers that be at STW seen how the Cyclist magazine digital sub app works? It’s bombproof and pretty. Worth a change to avoid the grief?

Salsa bend 2s here. 17 deg flavour. I switched to them after having my right wrist partially fused and they are ace. Very comfy and my mates often comment on how natural they feel even with normal wrists. I run them with deluxe bar extenders which gives a lovely bit of extra width and control.

I got ‘fat curious’ a while back and scratched the itch with an On One Fatty. 20+years of mountain biking and I can easily say it one of my favorite bikes ever. (Apart from the avid brakes, they are pants)

I’d keep it just for the silly amount of grip it has but it’s about so much more than that. If you ride because riding is fun then do not hesitate. The chubby side is for you.

Peatys in Guisley are good too. I’ve used them and Triple S for frame respray. Peatys had a lot more choice of colour and finish and were cheaper too. Quality was spot on from both outfits though.

It was there in pocket mags a minute ago. I downloaded it, got distracted, came back to it and issue 85 has gone from pocket mags. Rubbish.

Simple answer to all this is
Just ordered the Solarstorm head unit £13
    Battery from Torchy 34.99
Charger for £9 from Adam at http://www.bikelightsuk.com (UK plug and CE Certified with 12 month warranty)

    All in £57.00 I think that’s a Bargain!
I suppose the proof will be in a few months if its still running.

Me too. Seems like the logical route to let’s of cheap(ish) safe lumens.

Hey Tom. Posted this on my FB page as a heads up to mates and a non-cycling friend replied that he has seen many “snazzy looking bikes” for sale down Leeds market. If your feeling adventurous you could always have a wander through and see what you find. I would if it had been mine that was pinched.

Quick look at history shows lots of bike parts. But this means nowt really.

I just can’t understand why people with expensive bikes sometimes write such crappy adverts. Yet they do.

Jeez, sorry to hear so many are getting nicked in Otley. I’ve been here a few years now and never really thought of it as having big problems like that. This proves me wrong though.

Personally, all my bikes live indoors. Underground in the cellar. Whole reason for taking this house.

As far as positive action goes If you must keep it in the garage or shed then I agree with the simple-yet-effective rape alarm/trip wire setup. Spook em and they will probably leg it empty handed.

Feckless **** out on the rob deserve everything they get if you can catch em though. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the bikes. Any colour or other details you can offer Tom?

As an aside, there are loads of car boots around here. I never go but I wonder about bikes turning up at these sales?

    My story

Take the Physio option and do everything they say. Do your own research and learn the function of the joint so you understand what you are rehabbing, how it works and what you are really doing to it. Experiment with bar shapes ( I am now a confirmed salsa bar fan – cowbell/bell lap on road bikes and bend 2 on mtbs)

And be patient. You can get stronger.

    Teach outdoor ed.
When you’re getting paid to go climbing, canoeing, biking, gorge exploring etc, with kids who enjoy it, you can never argue with the pay.

My office is where most people play and, yes, I am quite smug about it

    Thanks for the replies folks.

With the offer of a cheap set of Formula rx brakes from a mate I think I will prejudge these brakes and swap them out before they have a chance to be crap.

Better from a simple case that there is only one ‘joint’ between cranks and axle as opposed to 2. In climbing we refer to this as the safety chain. Not so critical in MTBing but the logic is the same.

The bb life thing though is an issue. I had some old shimano UN54 BBs that went on for donkeys regardless of how I treated them whereas some external BBs (inc simano and FSA) have been made of stiffened tissue paper and give up at the first sniff of winter.

Hope external BBs on the other hand. Like that popular singer on the hair advert says

    ” because you’re worth it”

…. Is a very STW thing and I have yet to see it done in a useful or non-juvenile way.
So you’re suggesting that it would be more useful not to tell the OP that the information is already available?

    No.

Patience. And show them you are not scared of whatever it is too. Many owners of nervous dogs show anything but confidence when the dog freaks out and this only makes the pooch think they are right for being scared! If it looks at you and you are taking a confident interest in the thing it’s scared of it is more likely to think its ok.

The bad news is that most of what a dog is scared of is sealed in the first few months of its little life. The good news is old dogs can learn new tricks.
