I have just started using the torch WYSIWYG is suggesting. Best used so far when caving and you wish to burn your way out through solid limestone. It’s the shiz.

Rubbish!! Very few people do things where one mistake equals certain death. Millions may do activities where one mistake may carry a high probability of death if something goes wrong, such as driving on the motorway, but that is not certain death.

Lift your gaze beyond the m25. The world is a big place chock full of actual consequence.

Context is everything. Millions of people do harder things that carry equal or greater consequence everyday. This gets people going because its a bit naughty.

    Meh.

What Superdan said but then back up the West highland way and back down the Devils staircase to where you started. Awesome.

I have tried a couple of MTB SS set ups (26er and 29er) and whilst I love the simplicity and the weight saving I cannot get past the fact that I am a spinner not a masher. So on any of the steep climbs that take you places worth going I always found myself not enjoying the experience, grinding away and eventually getting off. I hate getting off.

Doesn’t mean I won’t build another though. There is just something about them….

I was definitely slower 3 weeks ago due to limited bike time across oct/Nov (lots of work plus multiple infections). I was averaging 17.5 to 18.5mph consistently during july/August. Distances upto 70 miles but a few months of limited bike time and it soon dropped off.

Like I said though, that was 3weeks ago. I’ve done about 15 to 20 hours quality riding in the past 20 days (Road, cross, my and fat bike) and back comes the power and endurance. Went out on a regular 23 mile road loop yesterday, 17.5mph again and 30 strava PRs out of 36 segments.

Chase catch and punish? No! She will just think “sod going back to the human, I just get told off for that” she won’t distinguish between the two events (coming back or chasing deer) she will associate the telling off with the last event. In this case, you catching her!

Two things to keep in mind from my experience.

One, the deer at that moment in time is the most entertaining/intoxicating thing going. You simply need to offer a better alternative. You just haven’t found d it yet. For our terrier Eddie (who lives to chase wildlife) it’s his ball that wins every time.

Second is showing your displeasure at your dog’s interest in deer before she starts the chase. Try her on the lead in an encounter with a deer. Then you have the chance to pull her in and say no at the moment she notices the deer. You could also try to treat her/positively reinforce the good behaviour when you see she is actively ignoring the deer (again, on the lead)

You are doing the right thing in going to the gun dog trainer though. He will know what he’s on about (unlike us wannabes!)
    Good luck with her!

Do you ever fall in or capsize?

    Yes > wear a helmet
    No > don’t bother

    Problem solved.

He’s there because of what he has done, definitely not because of what he can do. I’d go as far as to say it was dire.

Not as bad as Alfie Bow murdering Queen on the Gary Barlow channel though.

Strangely they are. This was my mad vegan sister who was staying with me for a few days. Her weird eating habits do weird things to her insides. Hence the need for dairy free laxatives!

Eddie is currently assaulting ‘sid the squid’ so it’s situation-normal.

My little terrier Eddie ate a 45g bar of 72% dark chocolate laxative this morning. It was enough to kill him.

Got him to the vets in time for some emetic therapy (drugs to make him puke). He’s back home now very tired but very alive.

All well that ends well Op.

Err, thanks poly for your help but the police did not prosecute me.(Sod it, it was me).

They told me so today. They raised no action in relation to this offence. They checked and everything. No head in the sand here. I laid myself on their mercy and was told I had nothing to answer. End of.

Well, my friend* went to the local police HQ today to throw himself on their mercy as he drives a lot for work and needs to be squeaky clean when it comes to motoring.

The kindly desk Sargent checked the reg and name against the computer.

    Nothing came up.

She then called the central processing unit who confirmed that the offence had been expired because the police did not prosecute within the appropriate time.

So my freind * is very very :D

My friend says thank you to all those who have contributed to the original question. He said he is not bothered about all the chuntering about if stealing from a bank is a crime or not.

He is considering a trip to the police station.

If its is proper windstopper material then it is the least breathable thing thing since suffocation. Hence all your hard earned sweat stays firmly on the inside.

I keep it to three separate layers in conditions you describe Eg over the Nan Bield pass in crappy weather on Saturday I had HH light weight thermal, pearl izumi thermal long sleeve jersey full zip and a montane waterproof jacket ( old style entrant DT). Felt warm dry and cosy both carrying up and blatting down.

The next time you are in Nidderdale. If Kendalls are doing their individual game pies (rabbit, pigeon & pheasant last time I had one) then they are not to be missed.

I don’t ride with a club anymore for many reasons but one of the thing that keeps me away from them is seeing stuff like this all the time around here.

It’s the so called ‘slower’ groups who seem to have no discipline. Riding in big jumbles, allowing large gaps etc. from what I read on my local club websites these rides are supposed to be led in some fashion. When I started riding road bikes with a club years ago, you learned the craft fm more experienced riders or got made to feel very unwelcome. Does this happen these days? I doubt it.

This generation of slx brakes are just amazing. Anyone who gets on my bike who doesn’t know about the power and feel of the brakes is physically amazed by them. They are just that good.

I must be a bit of a bike whore then because if it’s got wheels and you can pedal it then I’m on it like (insert crappy rhyming metaphore here)

It honestly cracks me up how anti-bike some cyclists can be just because someone likes a different bike.

Those of us who work in the outdoors (climbing, caving, paddling etc) have been rocking the onesie or ‘baby grow’ for decades.

It’s only recently they have been adopted by the chattering classes.

I could not live without mine. I have many for different activities/seasons etc.

They are so very very right.

Cheers for the opinions. Helpful stuff.

It’s based on a few things really. I have an xperia z phone and now love using android on that and I am getting chuffed off with stupid thugs like ios not supporting flash etc.

Might have to find a nexus 7 to play with. Off to ebay I go to set a few ipad in my watch list and see what’s happening.

    Thanks for the options folks.

I’m pretty sure I’d make it worse if I tried to fix it. Bikes yes, electronic gizmos no!

I’ve googled up a few places that offer screen repair in Leeds so I think I’ll try Tymbians approach first and then if hat fails I’ll take my chances with one of them.

That section the op refers to was a sloppy, clay-like mess when I went through it a week or so ago. It was therefore significantly worse for all users, not just us.

Whoever is behind these decisions needs a lesson in land management sharpish.

I wholeheartedly agree! My poor dog goes mental trying defend us fom the explosions. It’s proper stressing him (and us) out.

I’d like to see one night designated each year based on sensible logic (closest weekend night to Nov 5th?) for all firework displays to take place with fens for anyone caught letting them off any other night.

It’s all the random ones that really cause pointless stress to animals.

If it is an L 40 something ward then it must be the wrist clinic at the LGI you are going to. I may have been misremebering the number. TBH i’ve been there so many times over the last 18 months that I just turn up on full autopilot anyway! Say hello from me!

By the way, I see from the Italian restaurant thread that you may be Leeds based? Me too. If you are, and you’re not seeing them already, get yourself down to the wrist clinic in the LGI. Ward L42. Rob Farnell and Doug Cambell are based there. They did me and they are utterly superb wrist and hand specialists. Genuinely nice guys too who know how to listen to a patient and understand your needs when it comes to recovery goals.
