“Victorians are not the great craftsmen that everyone thinks 🙂”

Victorian craftsmen were great. Victorian builders were just like modern ones, I suspect.

But surely you need the 12 setting Royal Doulton dinner service that you will literally use twice in 20 years, like us? 😂

We had a ‘list’ at John Lewis as my wife’s mother insisted, we basically went round scanning random stuff and hoped no one would buy it  seemed to work apart from the Doulton as we mainly got given cash.

Best wedding present we actually got was an ounce of homegrown weed from one of my mates.

Luck isn’t the same as a wheelbarrow- it works better if you don’t push it.

My Delonghi Perfecta is over 10 years old now, still works perfectly. Took the time when new to test the water and set the descale alert properly and I just do that when it tells me to, plus a good cleaning out every now and again.

I’ve bought one. I e got a Tempest that I really like & I wanted a relatively cheap hardtail frame to build a bike to keep at our caravan. Was looking at cheap Chinese carbon frames but this looks ideal…

As you can see, those Bomber Z3s moved to quite a few bikes over the years!

It’s our 20th wedding anniversary on Thursday, so a nice dinner for that. Then a bbq on Friday with friends, followed by 2 weeks away in our caravan.

“mattbee Paper records are normally demanded if they think you have something to hide. Have you been a bad lad? 😉
(Sometimes they are required for a selection of tax-payers when they aren’t looking for anything, though getting a bit uppity may raise suspicions).”

We had the ‘random fickle finger of fate’ CIS inspection a few years ago and when the meeting was arranged they said “by the way, a VAT inspector will be coming along too.”

Nothing to hide and they didn’t find anything but it wasn’t the most pleasant experience.

Tell that to the VAT inspector… That’s a joy, I can tell you.

A pint every couple of hours in a warm, lit environment surrounded by company is probably cheaper and than heating your flat on a state pension and means you actually get to interact with people rather than staring at your damp, peeling wallpaper…

£35 spent on ti saddle clamp bolts for my Magura Vyron seat post. Although the Ti top cap bolt might be more pointless ever so slightly, along with the carbon top cap it holds on. Replacing the rear cage plate on my AXS mech with a carbon one saved a whole 6g and cans really be seen let alone felt either.

I have been lucky enough to own rather a lot of the bikes on peoples lists- Klein, Proflex, San An, Turner, GT RTS & LTS etc… Still do own a Klein.

I would like to have had the chance to own a Pace RC, an ATX-1, a Spooky Metalhead, or a GT Lobo

Erm. Since 1992 when I got my first mountain bike I have owned 49 of them.
I currently have 4 but that does include one from 1992 (Klein Fervour) alongside 2 mtb and a gravel bike.

Boost is a hub ‘feature’ so the bottom bracket has no bearing on it.
Some chai sets do have different spacing to accommodate the chain line changes caused by boost rear winds but that’s almost always in the ring itself if not the crank arm so the bb spacing shouldn’t need to be worried about. Basically the total width of the frame’s bb shell and spacers used is a set distance so if you add a spacer or similar on one side you need to take the same amount out of the other side.

Not Acolyte but I’ve just had my first ride on Advent X 10 speed.
Wanted to build a bike up to leave at the caravan and the bits pile was full of everything except a drivetrain so I thought I’d give it a go. €160 from Bike24 for shifter, rear mech and 11-48 cassette.
Took about 6 days to arrive including the Easter holidays.
Setup was a breeze and it works just fine. I’ve been on either Di2 or AXS for the last few years so it’s a while since I’ve used a mechanical groupset but I’m really impressed with it for the money.

Of the 3, Poole. I live in Portsmouth. It’s nice being close to the South Downs but I’d move to Poole area myself if I could make it work commuting etc.

We have a caravan on a seasonal pitch in Wareham & spend as much time as possible down there, the Purbecks are ace for walking, climbing, and the riding is pretty good too.

Perfect timing on this thread! Was looking at getting a cheap e bike for the wife to keep at our caravan on it’s seasonal pitch.
Bought one of those Calibres today and the £100 gift card makes it a crazy deal!
Ordered a Tongsheng motor and 15.6ah battery for £590 from a UK based seller.
So that’s sub £1k all in. Bargain!

Just a PX Tempest but I really like it.

Sram Rival (with carbon cranks/Garbaruk ring), Zipp 303 wheels, Pro bars/stem with Redshift hand rear things.

Comfy and fast enough for me on South Downs tracks and roads. I do prefer the GRX on my wife’s bike though, the hoods are more comfortable and I do find the double tap shifting a bit irritating at times.

I arrange for people to hang from ropes and fix things, clean things or paint them. Also have the delightful task of sorting all the H&S related paperwork for the above.
Sometimes I dangle off things myself but nowadays that’s usually trees, while I make them smaller.

Not really thought about it before but I guess it goes something like-

1- Gorilla bucket in back garden for weeds and stuff.

    2-Car washing bucket #1

    3- Car washing bucket #2

    4- Bike washing bucket

5- Mop bucket that I hate as the Mrs leaves the mop on the raised ‘strainer’ bit and it falls over all the time

6- Collapsible bucket in back of car for bike/dog rinsing after muddy trips out.

Whilst I don’t think listing them has made my life (or yours) any richer it does show how Middle Aged I have got. Used to have one bucket in the shed that I used for everything!

Berlingo. Had a Galaxy before it and had to take front wheels off and drop posts to fit bikes and my 29er hardtail (size L) was still a squeeze.
The Berlingo allows an even bigger fs bike to just wheel in with both wheels on and the post still extended, just with one of the back seats popped out (& left in the boot).
That’s a previous gen Berlingo on a ‘65 plate, not sure what the current one is like.

Ah, damp. Caravans from dealers are always bone dry when you buy them but damp when you sell. I’d not trust their damp check, get an independent one done.
We bought our first caravan from what is now Marquis in Gomshall. Spent £5k. Damp report was absolutely fine. We only kept it for 6 months before we decided to upgrade to a bigger/newer one (using some money from an inheritance) at the same dealer. When we took the ‘old’ van in for the px it was apparently riddled with damp that had been there for years. They seemed to have forgotten they had sold it to us and were very red faced when I showed them their own report from 6 months earlier.
Similar with the motorhome we sold last Feb to buy a caravan (we had it for 2 years but decided we preferred a caravan for various boring reasons).
Purchasing dealer saying it was damp in all lockers despite habitation service that we’d had done a month earlier showing no damp. Argued but gave us the price we wanted in the end. 6 weeks later, saw it for sale with no mention of damp and the pictures clearly showed that no work had been done to the ‘affected’ areas.

You’d get far more for your money buying a caravan and a cheap towing vehicle.

I wonder if rather than making them mandatory, you could attach a discount to insurance to voluntarily completion of one to encourage people to do so.

It’s been hit and miss ordering online. Managed to get some last week which was lucky considering both me and the Mrs tested positive.
Here in Portsmouth the council have said they will continue to provide up to 5 tests a week free for PO postcode residents until the end of June.

We have ours on a winter seasonal pitch every year, from October to March.

    <span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>Currently a ‘16 Bailey Unicorn Rimini. </span>

Means we still get to enjoy it without the hassle of towing on often wet and salty winter roads.
Never had an issue with cold; we have an insulated cover for the aqua roll and it’s hose. Has done the trick so far.

Personally wouldn’t have a dog for a working line unless I was able to give them the equivalent stimulation; how much fun for the dog if it’s made redundant as soon as it changes owners?
Then again, when we were looking (14 years ago now mind,) none of the working dog breeders round here would even let me know when they had a litter ready as the dog would have ‘only’ been at work with me all day on a 14acre paintball site, this wasn’t considered to be what the dogs were for. So I became the lucky owner of a Springer x Lab which was definitely not second best.

Why would you expect an 80 year old item to be ‘new’? It’s patently not new due to its age. It’s not like you can also get current ration books and the buyer was mislead into thinking it was one of those.
