I'm doing Edinburgh, just starting my 16 week plan to take me up to the big day.

I'm running 4/5 times a week, but only 2 harder sessions and a long run on Sundays (75 mins this week).

I thought I'd hate the training but it's got me hooked at the minute.

Good luck to everyone else who's training.

On theme with today's tennis I'm putting in a shout for Roger Federer.

All round tennis superstar and clearly a bloody nice bloke to boot.

Pretty sure there's a review in the latest mag.

I've got one on order through the CTW scheme, but it was promised last Wednesday. I'll post up once I've got it.

If you can get the upgrade without parting with a major organ I would say do it.

I upgraded to World Traveller Plus for a trip to China and managed to sleep, for the first time on a plane, and arrive in a fit enough state to present at a conference the day I landed.

It's a cracking sport, though like you say the opportunities in UK are limited.

I'm wondering how focused he is on the Olympics this year. As ever he has been on decent form, but he seems to be skiing slower, maybe he is training to peak later in the year?

Bjoerndalen is an absolute star, almost re-invents himself every year to stay on top. This summer he decides he will change his rifle technique and become one of the fastest shooters on the tour and what does he do, exactly that!

Sorry the point of the post, the commentators did say the other day that Norwegian hats are for sale somewhere on the internet, but I didn't catch where. Also said they weren't cheap.

Sorry for the near complete lack of help

There's a great deal of variation depending on the industry you are looking to working.

In contract analytical work, food and environment, you are less likely to see the approaching 20K salaries for starters. I happily used to offer 14K to fresh MSc graduates, and there were no shortage of takers.

The industry will also determine the 'routineness' of it all. The closer you get to a research or development environment the more likely you will have variety in your job.

If you want to know more about contract labs, drop me a line.

Mrs Matt_bl could help you with a bit of Polish translation if required, but we don't make it over to Poland very often.

    Thanks for that.

It's an electric oven, so no gas problems to worry about.

Everything seems to work and the thermostat light does stay on, which is a good sign that it is the element according to Ed2001's link.

I'll take the old one out and see where we go from there tomorrow.

In the meantime I'll have to find another method of warming the girlfriends chips (or perhaps I could pop next door!)

Simple decision IMO. BWFC are an unfashionable club with second rate premier ship players and a relatively small kitty to plunder. They have however in the last 10 years left Burnley in their wake. It will take Burnley at least 5 years to get to where BWFC are now.

I think we'll manage 18th in the premiership, within a little less than five years.

I just hope that the 'bigger' club do the decent thing and don't screw us over compensation! (I don't hold out much hope though)

I think it shold be enough to leave us without the best manager we have had since maybe forever, well that I can remember (sincere apologies to Jimmy Mullen and Stan). Nice timing to do it in the middle of the transfer window as well, that should really make the place attactive to transfer targets.

Please don't come back looking for players, although I can see that taking the likes of Fletcher, Nugent and Eagles would add to the Bolton squad and speed the transition to Coyles way of playing.

I now hope Bolton get relegated, but I fear that with Coyle in charge the only direction will be up!

Looks like we might be getting Coyle

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/03/bolton-burnley-owen-coyle

Pretty hard to take if it happens. Every Burnley fan knew he would leave at some point, that's how football works if there's a club out there with more money, but I thought he stay the season and would go to a bigger outfit than Bolton.

That's not really a dig at Bolton, just that I think he is a good enough manager to be working for one of the top four at some point.

I think the article I remember from years back used a fairly narrow slick tyre, with the bead cut off, to protect the tube from the screws.

I think it was used for riding down the Cresta Run.

Tends to be odd or lightweight films I watch over and over,

    Starship troopers
    Sliding doors (sorry)
    Stardust
    The flying scotsman
    Dan in Real life

    to name a few.

Ton, you thinking of Mice and Men?

As above, used exactly that set-up for over a year. No punctures and only needed topping up every six weeks.

When you look at what has been actually won this year by the ten personalities up there it's ridiculous.

Alistair Brownlee or Steve Peat have had more significant wins than the lot of them added up!

I'll not bother voting for that list.

    Apologies for the hijack.

I am switching from very supportive trainers to some Vibram Five fingers and really enjoying the nimble, for want of a better word, style of running when my weight is more on the front foot.

The only issue I have is the stellar calf pain the day after, am I overdoing it and will I acclimatise after a time?

IIRC when the British track cycling team looked at the efficiency of the team pursuit positions, three came out the best.

A double shielding effect from one and two and four to smooth out the air behind them, so there appears to be some benefit. The figure was something like 60% of the energy required to ride in position three compared to position one.

I've got a Cotic Soul, no bends, breaks or cracks, despite being bounced of rocks from Surrey to Scotland. I'm not one of these 16 stone lightweights either. :-)

    Fantastic bike!

A mate of mine ran it in a borat mankini. Fair play to him. Well done Damo. Plus he did a PB.

The relatives said he was going at quite a pace when he ran past the NOVOTEL on Victoria Street! The missus thought he was a bit too teddy bear shaped to be wearing a mankini. Sorry :?

    Thanks for that.

I'm hoping that the wind doesn't blow too bad, but I'm making a decent go of the carbo-loading just to be on the safe side.

Anything under two hours and I'll be happy, then I've got six days to train for the Southern Sportive!

It's things like this that make me realise everyone is different.

I can't imagine getting used to being punched in the face, but I'm quite happy to get kicked up in the air for 90 minutes playing football.

Nitrile gloves give a decent amount of protection with this stuff.

Personally I'm not a fan of gloves, I prefer to not splash it about as means of prevention.
