    Latest Update

Mate got his wheel/hub motor assembly back from Ribble, repaired free of charge. Took far too long to sort and the misinformation given on the phone has left him feeling distinctly dischuffed.

Let’s see how long it lasts.

    UPDATE:

Mate had a response direct from Mahle Germany stating that the warranty is 2 years and suggesting that the matter is resolved with the company where he purchased the bike.

They stated, slightly tongue in cheek I reckon, that before Brexit every product has a 12 month warranty and 24 months for electronic devices. As the UK gov is far too busy to unwind EU legislation, Ribble are talking a load of piffle and balderdash.

For clarity he was informed during a phone conversation with Ribble that the hub motor had a 90 DAY manufacturers warranty.

Ribble have sent him a box to return the rear wheel assembly for inspection.

Ribble said via telephone that components are only covered by the manufacturers warranty. My understanding is that the consumers contract is with the retailer not the components suppliers.

Bought an S10 from Amazon Renew a couple of months ago. Very happy with it and can’t see the “benefit” of spending £1K+ on the latest model.

“Google search for this image” is a really useful but underused tool.

But not in this case ;-)

I use their sister site DiveInn on a fairly regular basis. Never had an issue and shipping, although not next day, was fine.

It looks like the boost pipes have been upgraded and the that an EGR replacement pipe has been fitted too.

I think my cost of a cam belt change can exceed the value of of the car comment wasn’t very clear. What I meant was when looking to buy, the cam belt history is a major factor in the value of the car.
Electric window regulators are likely to fail but there are low cost kits to refurb them available although it’s not a 5 minute job. The “possessed” central locking thing can have you questioning your sanity.

I have a 2003 Bora PD150 (Golf with a boot). It’s only showing 108,000 miles but I am pretty sure a few more have been “unrecorded”. Most important thing is to use the correct type of oil in the PD series engines. Also as they get older the cost of a cam belt change can exceed the value of of the car. I played cambelt roulette by waiting 8 years to get it done and got away with it.
There is loads of info and how to videos online, as this was such a popular car, so it makes a great bangernomics option.
The front wings are a known issue due to a piece of sound absorbing material, stuck inside the wing at the top of the wheel arch, acting as a sponge to hold water and let the wing rust rust from the inside. Ebay has pattern prepainted wings for £100 and they are a bolt on part once you have removed the front bumper etc.
Boost pipes/clips can be a problem but nothing that a couple of self tapping screws can’t fix.
Mine does 50+ mpg all day long and will easily swallow 2 bikes and enough stuff for a week away with the back seats folded down.

I bet Inkster and Onewheelgood are at the top of the list when you have too many positive people at your dinner party and you need a joy sucker to get people to leave.

Definitely over thinking it. The whole story was a piece of good news floating on top of a sea of awful news.

As above try moving the crankset closer to the BB shell by using thinner/less spacers. Also check if the cassette/freehub combo requires a spacer or not behind the cassette on the freebub.

The cold water tap in the kitchen should be direct from the mains before the softener.
You can test your supplies to see which taps are softened with test kit or just look at the pipe runs in the kitchen.

You can turn off the auto stop/start function to give your battery a chance to recharge after a jump start or just because the feature annoys you. Useful to know for the many cars that have sat around for the last few months.

I have now done both front windows on my VW Bora. Not a difficult job but don’t rush it. I replaced the drill out rivets with a cable tie.

I had a flight cancelled, it was due to depart on 30th May and opted for the refund as it was for a group of 6 mates.
I received an email on the 4th of July to say a refund had been sent to my credit card. I hasn’t appeared on my account yet but I am sure that will happen in due course.
I booked, at a later date, another seat on the same flight. I requested a refund on that seat but I have not received a communication regarding that refund yet. I think that 90 days is plenty of time for EasyJet to deal with these refunds and will assume that they manage to hit their deadline.

    Yes.

You need to stop the water getting inside the garage unless you have some sort of internal drainage system as any repair method that is positioned below the existing structure will just collect water.
Assuming that the corrugated steel roof has holes in it, I would attempt to patch those from the inside with sections of sheet, mastic and maybe fibre glass patches etc.

I use SPD’s on my road bike as I hate the fact that road pedals are always the wrong way up when setting off from traffic lights. I do a fair bit of suburban London riding and trying to track stand with a big red bus behind you is asking for trouble.
I use North Wave road shoes that allow the fitment of either mtb or road cleats. Works for me but I do appreciate that road cleats are more secure.

I had what looks like exactly the same damage on my GP5000TL. I super glued the outside and patched the inside.

The max inflation pressure on a 28mm GP5000 TL is 94psi and recommended pressure is 65psi. The tubed version has a max pressure of 115psi and a recommended of 95psi. That would suggest that they are designed to run a lower pressures, so try 20psi less than the tubed version. I started by running my TL’s at 80psi and have now dropped to 65psi. My seat of the pants feeling is that they are faster riding at the lower pressure and less likely to tear on sharp objects.
My first one only lasted 300 miles at 80psi due to a 1 inch slash caused by a piece of glass. I have no way of knowing if a lower pressure would have avoided this but I now carry a tubeless repair patch that fits inside the tyre just in case.
Pressure loss is down to how well the tyre is seated on the rim. My front tyre hardly lost any pressure over a week but the rear would drop 30psi overnight. I remounted the rear and it seals far better than my first attempt. I also added an extra 30ml of sealant as I am running non TL rims and they have lots of extra areas that need sealing compared to a specific tubeless rim.

Flow reducers come in all shapes but basically limit the amount of water coming in.
I presume the leaking ball valve is evidenced my water continuously running into the pan as that is how most modern overflows work. If yes, also check that the large rubber seal (that lifts when you flush) on the base of the flush tower is not covered in limescale, broken or has debris around the sealing surfaces.

Just checking that the faulty replacement part has the required flow reducer fitted if you are on a mains water system. They often fall out in the box.

I’ve used BikeINN and DiveInn several times. Never had an issue and delivery times are reasonable in normal circumstances. It took Royal Mail a week to get a 48hr delivery parcel from Merlin via their sorting office in Preston to me earlier this month so I would say that most deliveries are slower than normal. I would use BikeINN again.

Changed mine for a Pro 4 using the existing spokes. Worth it for the comforting clicking/annoying racket.
