Kayak23 Thats my usual ride, do you live in Ilfracombe.

And to respond to the OP I ride anywhere put I use common sense, I left Baggy point alone the other day as it had quite a few walkers on it and I only ride watersmeet in Lynmouth after 18:00hrs as the ramblers are gone. I put walkers on the back foot by being overly freindly most of them comment on how you must be fit to ride the bikes up the hills and so on, a trail centre is opening in a few weeks so that should keep me away from the walkers

I just got my chain and cassette from Rose bikes, cheapest I found it and got a suprise free bowl, very random suprise.

KMC make millions of chains I imagine they make shimano and sram chains. I’m on my 2nd one and can really recommend them as there the lightest I’ve seen and held. You dont really need them but I got the power link spliter and connector tools from superstar pretty cheap

I think hes a good role model for the kids by doing and introducing the outdoors to them. Its entertainmaint TV and needs to be taken at that value, He was 21 SAS and yes its not the same intense 6 month selection process but you still have to pass an extremely tough criteria.

I’ve personelly done Ice breaker drills in Skjold, North Norway, It was minus 32C at the time and just being out the water was F%%%%ng Freezing, but the reason why you roll in the snow is to remove as much excess water as possible, It doesnt work that well but anythink to help, the experiance of your body starting to shut down is pretty mental but if you follow the drills and get your core warmed up quick enough you can survive

I think your talking about initial inertia there big dog which is heading in to physics and I may leave my self out gunned and embarrassed , but the way i think of it is if my 29 inch wheel weighed less than yours then no it wouldn’t, if my tyres had a lower friction coefficient then that could also help, its the same with bearings, so you have to add those factors in to all wheel types.

thanks for you tips you had best pass them on to the bike industry so they stop The foolish production of 29ers We can just struggle along with flat tyres instead.

But a simple lesson in mechanics is required for you on gears and ratios, if I have a 2:1 gear and I move one gear 2 revolutions to make the other gear move one revolution, if the one revolution gear is attached to a 26 inch wheel it will move 26 inches if its attached to a 29 wheel it will move 29 inches, with me so far. You can change gears but your wheel will still move the same distance per revolution, any questions so far.

Go tell your friends what you have learnt

The long haired chief of staff would throat punch me if I even thought of getting rid of my 26″ bike, the price of bikes I couldn’t justify an extra 3 inch’s, should would rather that 3 inch’s was added elsewhere :-).

I would like to get a 29er for a long distance bike packing ride though as riding my mates I noticed it smoothed out the small bump chatter and the extra ground you gain with the same peddle revolutions is something else which makes me think the 2 wheel sizes shouldn’t be in the same competitions, but I guess you have a choice

servicing is cheaper than you think, its £45 – 60 here in North Devon. I would get the BG thing though as a circuit board is nearly £200 the parts for a boiler our outragous and they can go at anytime.

The nissan micra 2nd generation 92 – 03 my wife used them at here work which was a kids home, the staff and kids ragged them the kids used to beat the shit out of them and the weather on Exmoor would smash them they put in big millage going to London and Plymouth but the cars were indestructable, its what i would gun for in your position. Good luck with the hunt dude

I worked as a gas engineers in social housing, going on the new estates and in the new properties made my piss boil, they would all and i mean all be trashed, they dont have to pay there hard earned money for it or fix it so they treat it like shit. My mate lives next door to a bunch of tracksuit warriors, hes ex 59 commando so a quick threat at night time when they were acting like only that type can andnthey have behaved ever since as the path of least resistance was cut of for them

Youve tried to support your local shop and they have failed you, I would go and tell him about the stem and bars just to let him know his works a pile of shit
The bright side is you will always check your bike before a race from from now on like a good engineer should :wink:and I imagine you be putting your engineering skills to good use on the bike from now on

Ive done 35000 in my Nissan x trail 58 plate with no dramas, its a good drive obviously its no Audi or BMW for comfort as you have a bit more wind noise and body roll

The boot is massive I can get 2 bikes in with the wheels of and my bags and tools, Fuel wise it does 36 at the very best

If you dont need a massive boot then a more economical estate car would be better, stick a set of winter tires on an Audi A4 or A6 or similar and you will be in just a good a position but save on fuel and road tax

My rubber queens 2.2 Black chilly were awesome at cmwcarn, really confidence inspiring and gripped like shit but were fast rolling as well, I use them on Exmoor as well and porlock is very root and rock infested again brilliant.

Ive only had these, Bontrager mud X’s in winter mud and the Paneracer Cedric garcia AM 2.35 which I didnt get on with so i’m no tire expert

The grey grit is from when the Heat exchanger is blasted during manufacturing, It is in every trap when you service the Bosch boilers.

Firstly you shouldnt realy touch a boiler unless your Gas safe registered, the condensate trap needs filling with water before you put it back or gases can escape through it and you may get on air trap stopping the syphoning action

The boiler will shut down automaticaly if the condensate is blocked also make sure your pressure is at 1 bar on the guage this will shut the boiler down or not let it get above a certain temp

Hope this helps, Bosch do a really good service its worth having it checked out properly as its gas, electrics, water, fire and gases in a box on a wall in your house

Ive got an xtrail and it sounds like it fits his bill, the 4 wheel drive can turned on from 2 wheeled and there is diff lock and hill decent. so you can save money by not running 4×4 all the time.

Mine has been reliable and you can fit 2 bikes in the back with loads of kit, wheels off though. Its comfortable not as comfy as a audi allroad but still ok.

I would avoid land rover as basically there shit, I spent 10 years repairing them.

tell him to give putting winter tyres ago we had to do that in Germany and Norway and there brilliant and might save hi having to buy a thirsty heavy 4×4

Ive recomended Canyon to all my mates that have got intrested in biking after taking them out on my spare bike, one lad is just getting his from an ebay win and the other is buying direct.

I think there excellent top spec bikes, the frame costs over a grand to buy alone all the parts are from major companys and as there a direct company any problems well there there direct. The guys saying oh there might be a problem who do you call well its not like Trek are in my back yard, you would have a better result at getting it sorted with a Canyon than if I tried bothering my LBS about my Trek

I would prefere to ride a high spec bike than a crap spec with a badge I reconise, i’d say do it and put the saved money into improving other things.

Good luck with your purchase and Ive noted your site and hopefully come out and ride in the future with your company

I run a jones mud x front and back in the winter, its and amazing winter tyre but, Cuts through the mud and grips.

I beleive the idea is to have a smaller width tyre for mud so it cuts through rather float

On a rare dry spell hand railing the river from Simonsbath to Tarr Steps is a good ride, all the above rides around Horner woods are awesome and some of the best natural trails anywhere, In the evenings or early morning when there are no dirty walkers about then looping Watersmeet in Lynmouth is ace.

As for a bike Im on a trek fuel ex 9 and thats fine for the job, the climb to Dunkery Beacon made me think about getting a 29er HT

I’m going to the gravity enduro this weekend near Porlock, the details are on the Shred magazine which currently wont open on my laptop so I cant put up the link, but it promises good riding so might be worth a look

I rode my hardtail around North Devon today because my Brakes are broken on my Full suspect, it was crap, HTs are only good if you like your arse hammered by your seat over every little bump. I felt no more at one with the floor as I do on the FS

I use the Endura singletrack, it has a nice superthin gel pad on the palm. they have updated it to the single track 2 put I prefer the older ones that had a strap as getting them off when there wet is a ball ache

I own a fuel ex 9 I love it but your right its a fair whack to pay for a bike, My mates are getting into the sport and there budgets are the same as yours, so I’ve been looking at bikes with the best kit for that price, my preferance is for it to have Fox suspension,

I think the Canyons are great and also noticed the Cube AMS 130 29er and 26 inch are well specced with Fox forks and kit

    Hope my waffle helps

Change your routine, eat little and often and smash out some big leg sessions and incorporate legs into your workouts a few times a week.

The reason being legs are your biggest muscles and burn more calories, muscles burn calories/energy.

Try also doing a fasted sprint session or intense training before you eat in the morning

    Enjoy

Hi there I live in Ilfracombe and its tough to find public paths belive it or not, I head up the Tors staying high and down through Lee woods and back for a quick burst or over to Croyde around baggy point via the Tors and Woolacombe for a mid size ride Pubs are grampus in Lee, Red barn in Woolacombe and for the best Cream Tea or cake the sandleigh tea rooms at croyde side of Baggy .

As for Lymmouth get there early for free parking and to avoid the miserable walkers all telling you its a footpath as they did today and head to watersmeet then to Brendon/ East Lyn river. Its some of the best scenery in England, also Horner woods in Porlock and Simmonsbath to Tarr steps Dulverton in is amazing riding but i would avoid the higher exposed ground at the moment as its very boogy at the moment.

The coast path is short down hills, hike a bike up hills and not great for long ride stretchs, hope this helps and you enjoy your stay here its a great part of the world. If you need any more help just ask

Thats a nice way for a company to make one of their employies feel unwelcome and unappreciated. A christmas bonus should be given with the spirit its intended, no discression means theres nothing to stop them. I would raise my feelings with my manager, its little things like this that annoy good workers who get on with things and dont normaly say anything. Sometimes you have to say how you feel
