I use these for walking my dog, wouldn’t say light but very comfortable and waterproof.

I’ve owned a Cotic Soul and a Genesis Croix De Fer, both i’d describe as good all rounders.

If it was me I’d go for a Vizla/Pointer but remember he’ll want a lot of exercise even on the days your not on the trails

@fudge9202 Tell me about it! Ours is walked for 3-4 hours most days, doesn’t leave a deal of time for cycling if i’m honest!

@ simply_oli_y Yeah it’s wierd how I took him though the local woods on tight singletrack and he wouldn’t run behind kept trying to get infront, then when he got infront he kept stopping to make sure I was there!

He just runs and runs at the side of me!

I always pick his poo up and wouldn’t dream of taking him to my local trail center 😉

I have a German Shorthaired Pointer and Vizsla cross, I get tired of pedalling before he gets tired of running!

I only take him on fireroads and farm tracks though, he’s terrible on narrow singletrack as he’s only happy running at the side of me he won’t settle infront or behind.

He’s currently pestering for his weekend morning 12 mile walk! 🙄

We had one last year and employed our own fitter.

Beautiful kitchen at a fair price but the salesman measured up wrong. Also they sent wrong units, cupboard door instead of dishwasher etc.

This resulted in extra work from our tradesman which they refused to cover.

You just get put on hold from their call center so we kept on at the branch. After they have got your money they don’t give hoot, couldn’t care less what mess they’ve made.

After a long wrangle we got our money back through the Ombudsman.

We look back now and laugh but at the time it was a very stressful and unplesant experience.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

I have a Pointer/Vizsla cross who has just turned one. We were wondering what the hell we had done when we first got him, as he was totally full of energy even though he was off his lead and roaming/chasing a good three hours a day.

He’s ruined the lawn with his wee, done a bit of chewing (nothing we couldn’t replace) woke us up countless times jumping on our bed at 3am wanting to play etc. and was very late at toilet training 😕

We were advised by other gun dog owners to buy a crate and it’s worked a treat. For a couple of months he was in it when we were at work (4 hours max) and at night (5 hours max) we now leave the gate open and he uses it as his bed/den. He’s never locked in anymore but seems to be a different dog because of it? might be worth a try?

I went in ’99 and 2000, both brilliant from what I can remember.

Got in with a dodgy hand stamp for £10 in 99 and over the fence in 2000.

    Happy, carefree days! 😀

Health reason for me, had two big operations on my spine when I was 19 & 23 disc’s fused etc. very messy 🙁

Broke my ankle 10 years ago and the physio advised me to take up cycling, so I bought a Hard Rock and fell in love with it. Upgraded that to an Orange G3 then a Cotic Soul which I rode all over Peak, Lakes & Wales until in 2014 my back went pop again at Cannock.

Luckily they could cure it with an injection at the Claremont in Sheffield, where the boffin specialist advised me strongly of any rough and tumble on my bike. Sold the Soul and now I ride 50/50, I’ve got a Genesis Croix De Fer for (Sherwood Forest) fire roads and a Cannondale CAAD 10 for the road.

Miss my Soul evertime I fancy a spin 😕

I go every year late June early July and would advise as early start as you can as I find the heat gone 11am baking hot!

The roads from Torre Del Mar north up to the mountains are very challenging and the Vuelta passes round there sometimes.

I rode a Genesis Croix De Fer, and there was only a few small rocky paths i’d have prefered to be on a MTB for.

I did the 73 mile Massif and saw a fair few on big suspension MTB’s.

Portland Sunset, named after the pub wall we drank it on. Stolen bottle of Pernod mixed with a cheap bottle of Bucks Fizz in a pint glass.

    Ended bad.

@DezB i’ve plenty but not sure how you post on here?

I’m sure he is as plenty of people tell me when I walk him!

I find that when I walk my Vizsla/GSP cross his two hours plus off the lead is spent chasing about after anything and everything, squirrels, rabbits, phesant, butterflies & bees etc.

So the 45 mins he spends running at the side of me on the bike is less intense than his daily walk.

I spoke to the vet about ‘too much too young’ and he agreed that both breeds he comes from need a lot of exercise and as long as his running isn’t on concrete he’ll be fine.

I have a 10 month old Vizsla Pointer cross and occasionally take him for a run at the side of me, he’s always been really good, just canters along at the side on fire roads and bridleways.

Woodland singletrack is a different matter though as he can’t be at the side he’s all over the place, and it’s dangerous for him and me.

It doesn’t tire him anymore than a good walk either.
