I didn’t really consider a damper change, the price puts me off. It would soon get cheaper to just go with a new fork and sell the old ones, especially considering I’d get the fresh warranty like you mentioned.
vmgscot- was the ACS a big step up in plushness and sensitivity over your previous config? What MRP mods did you have fitted?
matt007Free MemberDon’t know anything about the ituyo, but I bought an r4+ just over a week ago to replace my ancient magic shine. Used it twice so far and it been ace. Only use it in the race mode, climb on lowest power, descend with it on max.
The beam is great, nice and wide and of a constant brightness across the beam if you get me, not a bright centre spot.
The battery and all the mounts, and the head unit feel really good quality. The bayonet type mound is very secure and feels solid, no slipping when riding.
I’d buy again.
matt007Free MemberI’ve got a 58cm charge plug I’m selling, the steel version before they went alu, has full guards. If you were after something to tide you over it would meet the kid carrying requirement and guards. Email in profile if you’re interested.
matt007Free MemberI finished up a loop of ambergate and black rocks by going up black rocks in the gloom and coming down in pitch darkness on Saturday, on my lonesome. Slightly spooky!
Especially since over the summer up there I came across a group of guys stood in the undergrowth jumping up and down and chanting some sort of tribal sounding lyrics…. it was very odd.
matt007Free MemberDo many people get their cars broken into then? Never ridden cannock at night before but was planning it for this Thursday, was just going to park next to water works at start of the monkey
matt007Free MemberWell, tried to phone today when I could whilst at work and couldn’t get through to anyone. Sent email last night but no reply as yet.
Had a reverb stealth I’d also ordered turn up today, was supposed to be 30.9mm and they’ve sent 31.6mm……. something else I’ll have to sort out.
Never had a single issue with CRC orders before and I’ve shopped with them for years. This does all seem off.
matt007Free MemberWe got a full lap of the practice on Saturday before they shut S4, then completed the enduro yesterday. Agree with others, the rain overnight Saturday made things better on S1 and S5 as it diluted the claggy clay!
it was still like riding around a 30k tough mudder course though!
trout, your tunes gave me a real boost too, trying to get up the hill towards S2 as quick as possible, to get out of earshot of you playing right said fred’s ‘don’t talk just kiss’ lol!
matt007Free MemberIm less worried about tyre choice on the bike (minion DHF 2.5 WT front, minion DHF 2.3 rear) and getting more worried about towing my caravan on and off the camping fields in my front wheel drive car….
Fields 1 (around the expo) and 3 (the one without loos / facilities) looked to have the flattest on/off routes last year.
Anyone have any info on how the camping ground is looking?
matt007Free MemberMost of the stumpjumper fsr 29ers will in combination with a bike yoke adapter, got a ccdb coil on my 2016 stumpy fsr.
matt007Free MemberIve been running minion DHF’s front and back with the recent dry weather, was up the amber valley yesterday evening and even after the quick dampening down / hail shower I got on the steeper loamy trails I was wishing I had my shorty on the front…. after reading this I think I’ll put that on tonight as default for the weekend
matt007Free MemberI’m running a Cc DB coil on my stumpy, love it.
I’m 200lb geared up too.
matt007Free MemberI’m in, seeded mid pack in the masters at no. 360. Nervous already!
Never ridden Grizedale or any of the previous PMBA’s using Graythwaite.
The vids I’ve looked up mostly look like either fresh cut off piste which looks rooty and pretty wet, or what looks like trail centre established tracks.
Any pointers?
matt007Free MemberI’ve just retired my old m162’s and went for a pair of the 2fo cliplites (ones with boa laces) very impressed so far. The boa laces make it really easy to get even tightness on both feet compared to just Velcro or lace closures.
matt007Free MemberI’m selling a 31.6mm 150mm drop reverb stealth, used maybe 6 times max and immaculate, doesn’t fit current frame or I’d keep. It’s got 5 months left on warranty as I bought from croc so I’d sort for you if needed. Message me on email in profile if interested.
matt007Free MemberIve had 2 of the praxis BB30/PF30 (its the same kit, you just throw away the delrin sleeve for BB30) ones, on MTB and road bikes. MTB was a stumpy with a PF30 BB. Was absolutely flawless and creak free for 18 months hard use.
Now running a Token one in the new 2016 stumpy, just because the LBS had one in stock, so far its been perfect. It has the same 2-piece screw together design as the praxis one. Only been using it for 2 months though.
Both of those on the MTB’s were to be able to fit 24mm HT2 cranksets.
matt007Free Memberstayed in the bunkhouse at torrent walk campsite a few weeks ago. 20min walk into Dolgellau from there. Cheap as chips at £12 each per night and they have a shipping container lockup.
matt007Free MemberI think you will have more options readily available to fit an enduro than I had for a stumpjumper. I’ve seen lots around with Ohlins coils, rockshox monarch+ and heard of folk getting fox X2’s that all have the specialized type mount.
matt007Free MemberHas your current shock got proprietary specialized mount type shock shaft?
If so, and you want to widen your range of shock options, have a look at bike-yoke. I just fitted one of their yokes to my 2016 stumpjumper, and was then able to fit a standard eyelet shock. You need to spec a slightly shorter eye to eye shock when using one of their yokes though.
matt007Free Memberive got a ’16 stumpy fsr 29er, its ace. Sold my 165mm ‘enduro’ bike as it was making my normal trial less fun for me, and got the stumpy. Its the second 29er stumpy ive had (last one was a non-evo ’12) and I find it the best all round bike ive had.
Currently got it built up with a bias towards the descents, lyric RCT3’s, maxxis 2.5/2.3 DHF’s and even with a cane creek DB coil on the rear now thanks to bike-yokes adapter.
matt007Free MemberI’ve had good results with the good ridge branded stuff off CRC, made a huge difference with my cable disc brakes on the commuter
matt007Free MemberYou can buy my XL nomad CC for less than the price of either of those alloy frames
Excellent condition, with hope headset, invisiframe kit, and monarch plus rear shock. Im in Derby.
matt007Free MemberI’ve greased the headset bearing seats on 2 stumpjumper frames I’ve had, and used for 2 years total, neither have had any issues. Both have been bearings straight into carbon headtube without alloy inserts.
My thinking in doing so was that I didn’t want and annoying creaking or clicking if the bearings were to be be shifting ever so slightly.
Like I said, no problem in 2 years use. I used rock n roll red devil.
matt007Free MemberKask Mojito again here, finish detailing was much better than some helmets at twice the price when I compared them in the shop, but most importantly it fits my head like a glove.
One thing I’ve learned from experience, I’ll never buy another helmet without trying one on in a shop. Bought a few online previously that I’ve found uncomfortable.
matt007Free MemberI went through the same issue after last winters rain… I bought a lezyne strip drive pro. The rear of the body and the lens are co-moulded, meaning no water entry points or seals that could leak. the USB charge stick is downwards facing and has a decent rubber bung cover. Its been faultless so far, loads of modes and super bright.
matt007Free MemberI’m in the process of getting rid of my ‘proper enduro’ 170/165mm bike, to go back to a 150/135mm 29er as I was quicker everywhere Inc up and down hill on the one I had previously.
120mm travel 29er will be fine for enduro races in the uk.
matt007Free MemberBarnoldswick is where they make a lot of the rolls Royce fan blades, maybe some other bits too. I think a load of the hope guys are ex RR. Pretty sure there aren’t any design offices up there though, most of RR’s design work is done here in Derby.
matt007Free MemberPMBA Nationals
Ard rock
Ard moorsEntered the above so far! Some motivation to keep riding through the winter
matt007Free MemberI’d second a diverge, recently bought a lightly used 2016 diverge comp carbon for way less than your budget, to replace my niner RLT that got written off some time ago.
The diverge is great. Plotted a road route some time ago, which due to my own fault took in a whole load of unsurfaced roads (i.e signposted as ‘unsuitable for motor vehicles’), I didn’t dare take my Super6 Evo down them, so spent ages diverting around….. went out last sunday and blasted round the same route on the diverge, but took in all the unsurfaced bits. It was great fun, made a road ride much more interesting.
Im sure all of the aforementioned bikes would be great though.
matt007Free MemberI’ll be trying to enter myself along with 3 mates, got entries to the 2017 ard rock Saturday event, so would be nice to do this too. Rode the ard rock on the sunday this year, was the best enduro event I’ve done.
The ard moors is on my old local stomping ground as I grew up near there, I did a few DH races up there in the mid-late ’90’s as part of the NAMBS series on the carlton bank DH course. From looking at some youtube footage it looks like one of the 2016 sections used a lot of the old track off the top of lord seat.
matt007Free MemberLezyne macro drive 600xl here too, also run it in the high / lowish 2 mode option too, try to use lower mode most, lit roads or climbs, if I hit a quicker unlit section it’s a simple quick button press to toggle to high mode. Can’t imagine needing any more than that high mode on the road.
Run it with a lezyne strip drive pro on the rear, super bright.
Both USB rechargeable so can charge at home or work as needed. Great lights I think.
matt007Free MemberI’m 6′ and had a large, was good in that I’ve got long legs for my height so extra seatube length was welcome. Top tube / reach was only just long enough for my liking. Rode great, really enjoyed it, particularly good on the descents.
matt007Free MemberYep, I’ve done it many years ago. We hired from a local company and made sure they were ok with taking it abroad and that it was in the T’s+C’s. Cant remember how we got around the booking with no reg plate though……
It was back in our younger more stupid days, trying to do it on a shoestring, there were, ahem, more of us in the van than there were seated belts put it that way (yes, stupid I know)….. we had it all planned to a tee, booked 2 guys onto the ferry as passengers in the van, the rest of us dived out of the side door in Dover on the road to the ferry and walked on as foot passengers, just in case we got pulled over going through. Reversed it at Calais and hightailed it to the alps.
All seemed to be going so well till we got pulled over, by an armed and uniformed officer as we were going through a toll road booth / gate thing soon after leaving the alps on the return journey. I was driving, I sh@t a brick I tell you. He asked to look in the back of the van. We opened to door and he eyed up our suspiciously ‘stereotypical illegal immigrant’ look a like friends in the back of the van sat on a mattress behind all our bags and bikes. After checking all our passports, he turned to me and said “it is lucky we are not the police”, before waving us away…… relieved is not the word. Made it home without issues, including going through the jumping out, foot passengering it, jumping back in rigmarole on the way back. Nowadays, I’d fly……
matt007Free MemberI’ve done it before… but the bike tart in me just wont let me ignore it….
Running all maxxis now, mainly because I like the EXO casings for good blend of durability and weight for all round use
matt007Free MemberI used a pair of the airwave ones last night, first time I’ve bought proper tubeless valves instead of cutting them off old tubes! no issues in use and look nice on the black rims being all black. Tyres still have air in so no issues! I bought a pack of replacement cores at the same time for when the originals get gunked up with sealant
