    Hi there,

I have a 09 MK2 genius. I’m 184cm (6 foot & 1/2 inch) and I have a medium frame. It’s plenty big and superb for handling. I tested a large but the medium is a mich better fit. Only complaint is I have to run the seat post on the limit but besides that all OK.

Second shout for Lauterbrunnen. Go to end of the valley and get cable car to Gimmelwald some amazing views to be had from singletrack there. The tourist office in Lauterbrunnen will give you maps. Also the campsite in Lauterbrunnen is amazing.
The bike shop (can't remember the name) in Grindelwald rent out GPS units with loads of good routes, well worth a look…

I agree with RHSno2. Surely the dual will make it more exciting and push you more, depending on who you're up against of course. Quite looking fwd to the Shredder now…

Going myself this year and am interested in similar.

Do a search for VTT location (MTB rental) on google. It throws up this site with some naff Halfords-esque bikes http://www.velo-corse.com/fr/location-velo-vtt-vtc/

Yeah I saw that too but then emailed them and they replied very quick to say there had been cancellations. Should still be able to enter.

P.S. went to AE yesterday, and had second thoughts about entering… very slow course due to trails being very muddy and chewed up….hopefully they'll be drier in May.

I have a Genius and love it. Super climber and well able for the downhill stuff (have done uplift days at Innerleithen)
However, I find it is better sutied when in 130mm (front) mode as it feels more like it's natural, whereas the Remedy is designed as an All-mountain bike. I demoed a Remedy (8) before buying the Genius but thought it was too big and heavy compared to the Genius. The Genius has more adjustability, which I love…
Tough decision, but I'd go for a Genius. Demo them both first if possible as they are totally different bikes.

    Hi all,

I'm new to this. I was out on Wed in the pentlands. Left harlaw at 6. It was super calm, hardly a breeze at all. I saw 2 other lights heading up towards West Kip as I was returning to Harlaw. Other than that, all quiet.

I'd be up for this Wed again.

My bastid arrived the other day, after 4 weeks. I've also got the extension cable from EBay above. When I plug the extension in the green light on the back of the bastid turns red! Any reason? Battery fully charged and all that. Too much volt-drop perhaps?

Cheers Trekster, I must get the OS and check it out. Not sure when I'll go, I live in Edinburgh and just fancy something different….might have to get it in soon before weather turns.

Do you have any .jpgs from memory map etc?

Looks like it, apart from the 15mm bolt thru.

For the price I reckon it's worth a look at…

Another shout here for the Scott Genius. Lightest in class, 150mm adjustable rear travel with Fox TALAS up front (110-130-150mm). IMO a simply superb bike, look no further.

The Body Shop do one, can't remember the name. It did work but not as good as Mitchium (full of aluminium)

Is it the aluminium that causes the staining on shirt pits? amoungst other things?

It's a Scott Contessa 20 2007 model, silver, medium size. Only upgrade was a Hope silver seat clamp (2009) and a yellow bell!!!

Thanks,, nicked from Edinburgh University Old College building, near south bridge. It was locked with a decent lock… Hopefully insurance will cover it…nightmare though.

Already tried cahs converters there, I'll scout around during the week. What are the chances of it showing up before the weekend trip? Slim I guess.

As it was spec'ed with the bike and used to work OK, I don't think it's a compatability issue. I was wondering more if anyone had similar issues and if there is any vertical adjustment, althought I couldn't see any slotted fixing plates etc.

Alb, thanks for that but the Genius geometry (seat post thickness) won't allow direct fit.

Cheers for info, I reckon it’ll be worth a shot anyway.

Just got this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNSmzzLGt48 on youtube…..might be a bit tamer with the recent dry spell.

I’m gonna leave the studs out and see how I get on, I don’t intend to walk too far in them anyway. I might look out for shorter football studs sometime…. Cheers

I’ve just been to Arthurs seat, cycled up the radical road and then ripped back down to the lake. Too many walkers etc (etc being buckfast brigade with shirts off) to make it worthwhile, reckon an early morning ride would be better.

I searched for notices about cycling, the one near the small bulding at the front of the parliament says ”mountain bikers – please refrain from cycling off the green paths and roads” there is a list of the regulations at the holyrood park education centre in the park on the left heading towards the meadowbank exit which as Geoffj says about only says that more than 2 abreast is prohibited.
The fine is a max of £20 anyway so no big deal…

According to the website its 14 miles of off road until Garva Bridge and then 26miles on road from there. Reckon I’ll be changing to slicks at Garva. Nice pics Matt, anyone got the route profile or memory map in a .jpg?

Yeah, agree with most here. I have cheapo Wellgo V8 copies on my hardtail and they are ace, decided to pimp up on the Full Suss and got 5050XX…..hate to say it but £12 wellgos are better.

The 5050’s look well good but ridge in middle means if you don’t have 5Ten shoes or similar and use the extra long pins you’re not going to be happy.

    Cheers,
Was concerned that they might put strain beyond the design on the headset etc..
    Are larger discs thicker too?

You could ask the person you sold it to where they live, if near to the border and agree to travel to collect you can send it to a P.O. box in a post office on the border… I’ve done this before when selling to a guy that lived in Sligo. The post office were very co-operative.

I have the 09 Fox TALAS RL on my Scott Genius, they are superb. They have 150mm travel, adjustable from 110-130-150, with rebound adjust and lockout. I have coil sprung Revelations on my hardtail and thought they were good…but the TALAS are immense. I use the travel adjust all the time, whack it down to 110 for a climb, 130 for the less intense decents and 150 for that buttery smooth feeling that makes easy work of any trail
