don’t go with rev spokes Flagemeister. they are stretchy spokes which when combined with tubular rims make a nightmare wheelset.

sorry, 1mm wider per cup plus 2x 1mm spacers would make it 4mm too wide.

a 1mm spacer on your xt cups would make them 3mm too wide

the meausrement of the cups is ever so slightly larger on mtb compared to that of road.

If my MX bike is ok with 31.8 then i’m sure my MTB will be ok.

The thing is, your mx bars are 3-4 the wall thickness of an mtb handlebar.

that said its their cock-up so won’t be a warranty case.

One way or another they’re going to have to replace the buggared crank arm.

seriously though, if they can’t thread a pedal in straight then walk away.

why in gods name would you put carbon paste the bearing seats in the headtube?

don’t put paste in your headtube, this is only likely to mean the bearing doesn’t sit true in the cup if you have even slightly more on one side to the other.

carbon prep paste only need be in the seat tube.

maybe to actually manufacture the different parts of each car yields an £8000 difference but that may not actually take into consideration build costs?

maybe the maufacturing costs of a Porsche are 8k different but then the nature of assembly is greater?

    this is incorrect

I’ve heard this from a very good source too

Get one of those in Matty-boy!

I have a full range of sizes and colours in my top drawer, just in case i change frames.

i decided to stock up before they increased the prices!

The perception of margin is very, very wrong. Margin is the profit made after tax and on high end is generally 20-25% after tax.

with custom gear that gets reduced further.

I know of a £550 ax lightness stem where the profit after tax was 15p

That also excludes the phone call to order it which cost 30p!

The low end is where the big margins are.

cycle king and all the other stack em high sell em cheap stores will be making 50-60% on bikes sold.

is that a trouser length or an actual inseam?
Often when we ask people they state their trouser length which is generally 1-2 inches shorter than actual inseam.

Arm length is important but torso length is too.

The critical measurements are effective (horizontal toptube length) followed by headtube length.

if you have long legs you may struggle with a short headtube unless you’re made of elastic!

if you wear the races on c+c hubs they’re OK.

If you murder then races then the hub IS dead.

No matter what you do, if the cups are scarred then the hub will run rough or with play.

normally the warranty is at your cost unless you bought it from a bike shop when i’d expect them to take it apart for you.

they won’t pay to have it taken i apart i’d imagine.

new dura ace has replaceable cups now too.

harking back to the guy who was sat on a french bike shop floor, it is nigh on impossible to properly adjust c+c hubs without an axle clamp and vice. small adjustments aren’t simple unless the axle is static.

a decent cup and cone hub WILL spin as well if not better than a cartridge bearing hub.

    adjustable preload is the key.

not sure any of those are actually ‘pretty’

The Colnago road bike is lovely and the first bike in this post is too.

they deal with lateral loading better – apparently.
they’re also better because of the fine adjustment available with cup and cone.
Most cartridge hubs have no preload adjustment, just preload.

it wouldn’t surprise me if you bent or snapped such a long, skinny seatpost by riding off-road.

good luck with a 54t outer ring is what i’d say.

unless you plan on time trialling, the move from a compact 50t to a double 54t will be large

thats funny, i’ve just been on the bundy!

anyone know where to get it in the u.k?

    mathewshotbolt

I’d agree with some of the above there.

53cm horizontal does seem short especially with a 73 degree seat tube.

i’ve just ordered a custom Enigma steel and being 5’7″ with a 32.5″ inseam they’ve put me on a 54cm top tube with a 140mm headtube.

This sits well with me as i already ride a 545 on a 100mm stem.

Is it worth consulting a second builder for another opinion?

They are imported and distributed by Poshbikes in the u.k.

From the bits and bobs i’ve seen of them they look to be a highly versatile bikes which can be adapted for different uses.

Good to meet you the other day Amos, i think it must’ve been you who came into my shop looking at bikes.

Its a real shame you aren’t a few months earlier as we had an opening for an all rounder + mechanic!

    Nope,

Poshbikes are the only distributor in the u.k for tune.

On my 5" bike i run a 22-36 chainring combo with an slx 12-28 cassette.

in the scottish 7 stanes i never found the need for total bottom gear on long days out.

i have to reccomend the cube reaction too.

i did a few seasons worth of racing on it as well as using it for general purposes and it was fantastic.

the frame is better this year too.

that sounds right for your height.

If you do go for a custom, just make sure that you don't have it build with soo much headtube and soo little seattube that it looks like a wheelie bike!!

    I've seen em about.

The xcg is really only a bashguard and not strictly a chain device.

i use an e13 on a double set-up which is great but as faw as i'm aware there isn't really a decent device for triple set-ups

I've looked at lew's but they are almost impossible to get hold of!

Paul Lew now works for Reynolds and i'm told these are designed to be a heavily rectified vt1.

I can't wait to build these up now!

give it a whack first, it can't do any harm but if both metals have bonded, simply turning it with a big lever may tear out all of your threads.

get your welder to put in a new bb shell?!

but seriosuly, try and give it a knock, the impact may release any bond between the two materials.

sorry my mistake, the zeus stem is £560

its the thm fibula brakes which are £860!!!

The ax saddle is nice but i feel that the tune concorde is a nicer saddle.
The sides curve over to form rails and so negating the need for a proper 'core' and rails set-up.

because of its design, the saddle flexes a good amount giving a little extra comfort.

i do however like the look of the ax zeus stem at £860!!!
