145mm hubs make sense to me. you increase triangulation between drive and disc side spokes and bring the disc side tension up too.

    I’ve thought the same thing.
My ritchey stem s slimmer than the carbon or alloy spacers it sits on.

I’m confused, are the hive saying that you can’t braze stainless?

I know exactly what you mean. I just used another brand of more pliable outer housing as even cutting the jagwire shorter wasn’t the best solution.

Just use another brand on that last link piece as the rest of the cable kit is great!

you need a crown race setter or ‘equivalent’ tooling.

    My opinion is twofold.
Titanium stems ( like carbon stems) offer no real world advantages over generally cheaper and lighter alloy counterparts.
Titanium stems can make the bike look a little too much like you want everything to be Ti for the sake of it.

This scares me and if it weren’t a freak occurrence, would make me want to bring some of the afore mentioned gauze on rides.

That said, I wouldn’t be prepared and possibly composed enough to deal with it.

I’ve found the grand prix tyres awful in the wet and punctured easily. the gatorskin hardshells have been a lot better and if you want a 23c then the vredestein fortezza Quattro is awesome.

To be honest with you, the way it reads would suggest you are threatening them when you state you will be seeking compensation for losses incurred.
2 weeks is not a bad time frame if that is the time taken to resolve the issue.

    yes and none!

they have an alloy body so get cut up a bit as expected but otherwise have been great.

should also come with boxes bt its not always the case!

Even if that group did drop out of the first container coming out of China, it should come with cables.

My Topend alloy frame rides nearly as well as my carbon

    have you ridden them?

The steel could be made of gaspipe and ride dead whereas the ally could be spritely and awesome!

Oops, missed the part about them being cartridges. Small smear will suffice!

Tubs have a lower rolling resistance and because they are glued/ taped on are a fair bit lighter in most cases too.

Most tubs will require removal and repair in the event of a puncture unless you run tufo tubs which can be used with their own sealant (you can run a sealant in any tub)

Tufo are also easier to stick on with their gluing tape which centres the tub as you peel the backing off.

Shops should put a proper amount of grease in if they’re doing their job properly.

Had a few friends with these including a heavier friend with no mechanical sympathy. All wheels are running like they’re out of the box. I like the ease of minor truing and the theory that they are stiffer because they aren’t drilled and because of the ribs. The new ones look like a whole improvement over this generation.

Do a proper job of it. Most decent aero wheels are hidden nipples and its an unfortunate fact of riding tubs that they’ll have to come off every time something happens.

its due to the cable pull ratio.

The pivot/parallelogram locations differ between road/mtb which means that every millimetre of cable pulled by the shifters does different things to the derailleurs.

you run a 130mm drop from the top of the saddle to the top of your bars?

    That seems extreme to me.

There are variables like arm length but many of the people complaining about their position are better off for a lesser drop from one to another.

all i’m saying is that i’ve seen a lot of guys try to emulate pro’s with a tiny frame and a longer 120mm + stem.

This tends to put their weight over the bar which is great for sprints and handling but not so for sportives or climbing.

i would also disagree with ‘sizing down’ – get the bike that is the correct size in the first place.

I’ve found that a 50mm drop is suitable for most and anything further (i’m dealing with all ages, abilities and levels of flexability) tends to put more strain on neck and shoulder muscles.

I face bb shells as a matter of course when bullding bikes.
It’s amazing to see that mid way through facing a frame, you can sometimes see paint and material removed from one part of the face but not the other.
I also chase threads through to make sure they are aligned with one another.
For me it’s simply correct practice to make sure that the bb is starting life off in the best circumstances possible.

I hate to say it but odd numbers mean nothing at all.
Just because the bianchi was a 57cm doesn’t actually mean it was either bigger or smaller than the other bikes you mentioned.

Just look at cube for instance, their 56cm is most people’s 54.

also with the smaller frame longer stem theory, that can sometimes put your pedalling dynamics out massively which can affect power output and climbing comfort

all of the above is well and good unless he’s knocking out centuries where more weight over the front end is great until he hits 50 miles and his back aches! (again, if he has long legs)

    don’t just go on height!

so many people make this mistake.

Take a book, shove it as far into your crotch as possible and measure from the top of the book to the floor.

If you are say 5’6″ with a 30″ inseam, you wont need to worry as much about head tube length as someone the same height but with a 32″ inseam (me).

what about deformation during the frame build?

the bb especially, you have 4 tubes joining the bb shell with an awful lot of weld?

    mathewshotbolt

except for the new Dura Ace which is specific in that the diameter is now smaller.

Lots of the Dura Ace groups from merlin didn’t come with cables and weren’t shifting properly when people stuck their own in there.

    mathewshotbolt

as it has a tiny head tube.

generally speaking if you have longer legs (and a shorter torso) then a small headtube won’t be as ideal as say the z5 frameset.
