The finishing on that Cicli Barco is absolutely sublime. Best welding in the game.

So even decent bars weigh 600g??!!
I don’t think I’d give it the time of day to research this personally!

Sussed out also did my friends lefty a while back. Very thorough service compared to others I’ve used.

There seem to be more and more shops trying their hand at wheel building round suffolk Nick.

A quick glance at Facebook shows there are more than a few building them without actually looking!

We have a PK Lie stand but I still prefer the good old Kestrel as it is less sensitive.

I race on 1×10 but then I mainly race in East anglia.

To me, the big jumps on xx1 would be a deal breaker.

From what you’ve written above Peter Poddy, I think we’d get on well!

So many other shops that build wheels without giving thought to where the logo sits relative to the valve or even building them with rim logos (h+son for instance) facing different directions.

    the details count

And re the previous question regarding a wheel being true but having uneven tension, I would suggest you take more time to build the wheel next time and de-stress the wheel properly. It may take a year or so to build truly great wheels and reduce the time period in which you do but its all about being methodical and careful.

I’ve built hundreds of sets in my time and used a Dt Tensio for the majority.
Spokes, rims and in some rare cases hubs have tension ratings for good reason.
I consider it a great tool for beginners but it takes out all the guess work from building wheels properly for those with experience.
The plucking thing doesn’t work 100% of the time. I checked this theory once again last month to show someone. I plucked two spokes with the same tone but very different tension readings.
It is certainly possible to get a wheel round, true and dished with even tension (within +/- 5%) but this is made much harder with second hand rims or cheap parts.

    Blimey it’s a good job!
£190 is a lot of cash for a full strip down but I suppose it is in London!
Whenever I get a full strip down in, I love to strip calipers down and they’re always sweet as a nut afterwards.

Cube also improved stand over clearance this year so ow everyone should be fine.

I wouldn’t bother with them. They haven’t been torqued properly so I could never trust that it hasnt caused a stress riser.

Have you seen the testing on the enve dh bar?

I’d like to seethe on-one out up with that!

And also, goods bought via the scheme are sold at full price so then chance of someone paying more than £900 is doubtable.

Not unless you wanted to commit fraud.
The scheme is a hire agreement between you and your employer so nobody else could ‘buy’ this from you.

A longer stem also helps to put your weight over the front wheel to aid climbing what with the slightly steeper head tube angles found on xc machines

Dirty habit and unt clothing brands are rarely seen much anymore.

I used to have a DDG Shooter with drop off 130’s and planet-x BMF rims shod with gazzaloddi tyres back in the day.

M friend rode a 24 bikes le toy and still has it but it was a heavy old Bertha!

I’ve been riding a pair for well over a year and love them.

They are superbly made with great machining.

I’m about to build a black set for someone on stans arch rims.

Given the geometry of the Salsa, surely the Kinesis fork would be too short in comparison to the standard fork.
The spot brand fork looks ideal.
I have a vaya and love it but would also like to lose some heft for my commuting duties.

There’s a bit more to it than just the reducer. You also need an alloy spacer, a spring washer and some plastic washers to dial in the fit correctly.

I second Rorschach on this one and have seen it too many times (even by other shops)

The aren’t any spacers to remove on road cranks either.

Why not just find out the length Hope use/used when they built their hoops on the crest rim?

A good number of the builds using 40t evo hubs have equal spoke length.

I feel I might have been mistaken about the 12mm bit! But still a bugger on a 130mm setup.

    mathewshotbolt

Length is the main reason for sram. A lot of em are 112 or 114 links which on a sus can be too short.

    mathewshotbolt

The xd body only works with a 12mm through axle set-up which probably rules out most wheels/frames for you!

I saw a cube with a similar issue once but rather than the rivnut coming loose, the material around the rivnut had come away resulting in a larger hole. That was warranted though.

This week just gone I have built up 4x H+son archetype rims, 2x Stans Grail, 2x velocity a23 and 2x Pacenti sl23.

All users have said they have felt the stiffness benefit over their current factory wheelsets which are an assortment of mavic, shimano, fulcrum and some basic builds.

Of all the rims I build on, I have found the Archetype to be the best mix of price/stiffness and weight although if I was building a higher end wheelset i’d go with the Pacenti.

Where are you riding? Tyre pressures can also change with certain terrains or simply rider preference/style of riding

a good number of carbon frames simply run a molded bb shell with no alu insert.

Shimano have made composite cups to help with any intolerance in the molding process.

Do you have a link to your trek’s spec?

I’d say the things you have mentioned above are some of the least important.

I know discs and a cassette is considered a rotating mass but if they’re in good nick I wouldn’t bother.

If you are looking to shave weight why not consider a carbon bar or seat post which would help look after you during the race too?

What sort of budget do you have?
