Chipboard sheet doesnt last long in many applications in a garage anyway due to humidity
Valid point, I need a workshop! (to house my recovered chipboard sheet!)
That looks great project!
MatFull MemberAhh great yeah, a punch sounds a good idea to try first. Definitely don’t care if the legs get destroyed, it’s just the nice big sheet I’m after.
MatFull MemberCan’t see them linked above (apologies if I missed it) but these are great for setting a level with twine/string
MatFull MemberYou spend literally a third of your life on a mattress which you keep for ten years. It’s not something I’d want to buy by guesswork.
The matresses we’ve tried have felt ok initially but its when I wake up at 4am and can’t get comfy that’s the problem, I can’t tell that in 10 mins
Connect2 – that’s the kind of ‘do nothing and it’ll all turn out ok’ anecdotal answer I wanted! I’ll persevere for now and everyone will have to deal with my crabiness for a few days!
MatFull MemberAre the shops open near you? Go lie on some.
Ummm, we’re currently in lock-down?! Unless your local tescos has a beds section?
Buy a single mattress to each of your specifications, put them on a superkingsize bed frame.
Hmm that is a possibility, it is a superking we’re after…
Get a mattress you like, Mrs does the same, put them in separate rooms.
Marital bliss and a good nights sleep for all.I have been sleeping on the old bed in the spare room, Mrs Mat was concerned how seemingly happy I was with this arrangement…
MatFull MemberJust went to check what model bag I got from Alpkit (Pelmo) and realised what I got for £50 Jan-2020 is now showing on the website as £80! Albiet with a slightly changed design.
MatFull MemberAre you really not sure? 🙂
Haha no, I could have a good guess. Alpkit seem like nice people so I don’t want to go throwing accusations around :)
Perhaps that’s why the design has changed.
MatFull MemberBeing an alpkit fanboi, I got an alpkit one 18 months ago, waxed cotton and maybe made in the UK. They don’t seem to make the same one anymore but this is pretty similar. It seemed to be very similar to one of the scandi brands (fjallraven I think) not sure who copied who or used the same catalog! Other than not having tabs for the zips it’s been great (bought some off eBay)
MatFull MemberOooh, googled and found this not very old thread, perhaps that’s a no then!
MatFull MemberOk so you have
Sheet A
Name | Data Column 1Sheet B
Name | Data Column 2Do you want
Sheet B
Name | Data Column 1 | Data Column 2as in you want to add a new column to sheet B and add data to it if the Names match up?
For this sort of stuff I now use Power Query, it’s nuts how powerful it is (to my non IT mind), it’s opened up so much to me!
If I’ve understood your Q right though I’ll have a think about how to do it purely with Excel functions.
Edit: yeah what superficial says…
MatFull Memberhas anyone made a workshop partition in their garage using big curtains? I’ve got a 6x6m double garage with a pitched roof, draughty doors and vents so no chance of heating in an environmentally/economically conscious fashion! I was thinking though if I could partition off a quarter I’d have a good size work area I’d be able to heat more easily. Obviously I could do this with a stud wall but that would lose me the flexibility of a bigger garage, hence wondering if a thick curtain (heavy fabric or vinyl or something) would provide a decent alternative?
(apologies for the sidetrack OP!)
MatFull MemberThere may be a local wireless broadband provider too (not satellite or 4G). We had a wireless connection until we got FTTP a few months ago. A wee dish that connected line of sight to a local mast. I’d see how you go with the fibre available first though.
MatFull MemberWe’ve got 2 small kids, a Meaco 20L Dehumidifier, no tumble drier and dry our laundry on 2 Lakeland heated racks in our spare bedroom. Likewise opt not to tumble dry as loads of things can’t (or it buggers prints etc…). Can’t comment on costs, would love to know price wise if it’s better. Think it depends on how long you leave them running for. I think if we left the racks and dehumidifier on for 6+ hrs it’d probably be worse, I should try and measure one day
MatFull MemberBump, any thoughts on my pontifications?
(Other than: yeah, shut-up and build the effing thing)
MatFull Memberoh right, fair enough!
I’ve seen different approaches in peoples pics and there was a bit of discussion about this on P23. Should I have the rear brake and dropper lever (LHS bar controls) going into the double port on the LHS of the downtube is it prefereable to have them entering the oppoisite side of the downtube?
Inuitively I thought you’d be better off putting the LHS controls into the RHS of the downtube so you could have some slack and the cables/hoses wouldn’t be being pressend onto the frame. But the frame doesn’t seem set up for this because the double port is on the LHS.
From experience I’ll route stuff trying to do what seems obvious at the time and then find some cable rub pops up that I realise I could maybe have avoided with alternate routing. Granted it’s a bike for riding so should I care I suppose you could argue?
MatFull MemberBack with another build question! cable routing, what’s the consensus on which cables enter/exit from which holes? I guess it doesn’t really matter but I’d like to do it neatly first time!
I’m thinking…
Head tube end:
NDS | DS
Double port with insert: | Single port:
Rear brake/Shifter | DropperBottom Bracket end:
NDS | DS
Single port: | Double port with insert:
Rear brake | rear mech, dropperAlso, does anyone have any tips on which sequence is easiest to do them in (or any routing tips in general)?
MatFull MemberOk yeah I’m thinking of experiences of post mount forks (or one really) forgetting that they’re a magnesium alloy. Ignore me!
Still wish I could fit a hope 160 to 180 in there mind!
MatFull MemberI’m sure I’ve read discussions here about the rear rotor size but my searches are drawing a blank. My understanding is it can fit 180mm but not with a hope style adaptor (eg it has to be one that the caliper bolts directly to the frame with – 2 bolts rather than 4). The thing I like about the hope adaptors is you fit them and don’t touch them for ages, you don’t have to tighten/untighten them umpteen times when aligning the caliper then again whenever the brakes come off the bike. Also the threads seem less made of cheese and if you do bugger them you can just buy a new adaptor. It looks like if you did make a mess of the brake mount on the scandal frame it would be nigh on impossible to do a helicoil repair due to the seat stay.
The obvious solution to all the above concerns is “don’t be a crap hamfisted mechanic and there won’t be a problem”. But any suggestions on how best to do that? I’m thinking:
– make sure thread is as clean as possible
– use loctite
– use as long a bolt as I can get away with into the mount to make sure as many threads engage as possible
– make sure I’m not cross threading as I go in
– DON’T OVER TORQUE
– Get the caliper set up properly first time and LEAVE IT ALONE!MatFull MemberThey are gorgeous! I first heard about that Cat in this news article
Seems like an unbelievably cool school expedition!
MatFull MemberI know very little about this but hey! it’s the internet!
I guess it cuts both ways? the scenarios you list are rubbish but surely it makes it a lot more difficult to harass another country’s diplotmats with trumped up charges?
MatFull MemberI’d seen these on e-Bay, I’ve no bike I’m really looking to put them on but they certainly piqued my curiousity, I wondered if they’d fit OP’s bill?
Does anyone know anything about them? Are they a rebadged old fork from another brand? They certainly have the look of an AliExpress knock-off but the website at least tries to give the impression of a uk company. I can’t seem to find a physical UK address for them mind!
EDITED LINK
MatFull MemberThat was Rumsfeld. He’s bad, but not stupid.
I still use “unknown unknowns” myself, it’s a useful concept.
Haha I was going to say pretty much this. It was unwieldy but it’s a good breakdown of uncertainty.
MatFull Memberlooks like a 100k votes still to count in Georgia and >59% needed for a Biden win…
#prayformatsF5key
MatFull Member@Northwind yeah I’ve been struggling with the numbers reported (there’s slight differences across different sources) and what exactly the % of expected votes counted and what that means!
MatFull MemberReckon Biden could take Georgia still? By my calculations it looks like he’d need 70% or the remaining votes counted – if these are all postal votes surely thats not unfathomable?
(from the AP data saying 96% of votes counted – Biden 2321120 | Trump 2397173 | Other Lady 58180)
MatFull MemberThey specifically allow for late ballots to come in for I think the next week. So they have counted everything they have and are now waiting for tomorrows postbag.
Oooh ok great! so it seems improbable postal votes are going to change NV from blue to red surely?
MatFull MemberSo to clarify where we sit now…
Biden (by BBC) is on 224, assuming AZ (11), WI (10), MI (16) and ME (3 – 1 to Trump) that puts him at 264. His best chance at the moment of getting to 270 is with NV (6) who won’t give another update untill 18:00 GMT tomorrow?
MatFull Member…seems a little low. According to https://rechneronline.de/wind-power/ a 0.7m radius turbine in 9 m/s wind with 40% efficiency can generate 270 watts.
oops yep I went the wrong way with my mph to kph conversion! Fair enough, would need to be 0.35m.
MatFull MemberThanks for the continued suggestions!
Ok yeah to confirm we both use headsets! I’ve got a cheapy logitech H340 which covers both ears but there is no sound isolation at my end. The mic seems to work ok in terms of not picking her voice up, all the times I’ve apologised for background chat my coleagues have assured me they can’t hear anything.
Expensive solution but how about 2 pairs of Bose QC35’s?
Funily enough my wife got a set of those (I forgot to mention that) and as others have said they seemed much worse at picking me up owing to the mic being on the side of the headphones. I’d much prefer to have a mic on a boom!
Recomendations like that are what I’m after richardk! Thanks!
MatFull MemberNot that big – they’re around 400 Wh not 400 Ah. So if your turbine really can generate 20 W then it could half charge the bike overnight.
To do 20W you’d need a 1.4m diameter turbine and a consistent windspeed of 20 mph
(I’ve assumed turbine is 50% efficient in converting kinetic energy of wind to electric which I believe is still ambitious – 100% is stopping air dead)
MatFull Memberto clarify I don’t have a problem with e-bikes, I just wanted to give a viz top tips style answer
MatFull Memberwhat about some kind of pedal powered dynamo?
(ducks and runs away!)
MatFull MemberFuzzyWuzzy yeah both using headsets, I don’t think her issues are helped by the fact she uses a daft little bluetooth over ear single earphone/mic
MatFull MemberShould add, I work from a desktop (don’t have a laptop) and we both have multiple monitors. The calls we have generally need you to be able to share/see shared content via MS Teams so it’s a bit rubbish having to work from just a laptop screen.
How did it work when you were both working in offices ?
We had a good bit less in terms of calls, I sat next to my colleagues so you could stand at their desk and speak to them or go to a meeting room for more structured sessions.
MatFull MemberIn true recommend the one you bought style…
I got one of these 3 years ago as I was fed up with how long it took to dry my winter spd boots when they got drenched. Seems to do the job fine, my wife has now begun to appreciate it as an inspired purchase since we can use it to quickly dry out the kids shoes/wellies when they get soaked!
