I swapped out my tubeless G-Ones for tubed Nordic spikes earlier this year when we had the cold spell. When I came to swap back to tubeless I had all sorts of bother trying to get them to seat, they just wouldn’t! I tried all the tricks I could find, popping a tube in first, zip ties round the tyre to hold the bead in place (no airshot or compressor though). In the end I concluded the tape had deformed too much around the spoke holes. I retaped and they went up no bother! I wished I’d done that in the first place!

Was it me or were the levels terrible for certain acts? Thinking James Newman and then the Italians in the final?

No idea. Unless it is my brother sat next to me watching this 😉

Great 👍, Eurovision and an answer to one the big questions of our time all in one night!

Enjoyed the Italian entry, was struggling to think who it reminded me of but Royal Blood is it, thanks nuke! Maybe with a bit of RATM, killing in the name

Also as a complete tangent but is welshfarmer91 affiliated with welshfarmer?

Props to Mat for spelling the Icelandic entry with all the diacritics

lazy cut and paste from google I’m afraid!

Loving it, there’s been some great entries this year!

I thought Greek entry was pure eurovision.

Iceland and daði gagnamagnið get my vote! Was gutted they didn’t get to compete with “think about things”. Circular 3-piece keyboard-megazord was inspired!

I do wonder if the presence of clear rights (anything dotty/dashed on an English OS map is basically walkable) is a better way of getting people out to the countryside?

Waaht!?! Stop worrying! Follow rule 1, Read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code then go where you want whilst adhering to the prior points! You’ll be fine! There’s been a few posts on here this year about access issues in Scotland but I don’t think that’s representative of a wider issue. I’ve never had any problems.

As with other posters, I find the whole pink dotted line thing in England & Wales pretty alien!

We’re not up for renewal for a while but I always keep an eye on these threads for tips (so thanks everyone).

Those saying Barclay’s bike only insurance, does anyone have a link? I just seem to be finding home insurance policies.

I’m 5’11” with a 32″ inside leg, I bought Large frame and tried a mates Large before getting it built up (after reading all of the sizing chat on here). Was a Large with a 35mm stem, it felt too long when riding singletrack out of the saddle for my liking. I sold my frame and bought a medium which i now run with a 50mm stem. I’ve got a 170mm brand-x dropper (499mm length) which is maybe 15-20mm off min insertion. Loving the bike, rides great. When seated I could maybe be a touch more stretched out, would be sorted if I’d just slide the saddle back 10mm on the rails…

Can often pick-up blemished frame only for ~£260 on the PX ebay store, thats where I got my medium:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/planetx2020/Frames/_i.html?_storecat=2

Currently only XL but they’ve added more in dribs and drabs over the last year

Thanks both of you, it’s quite a long drive and the kids are pretty young so keen to let them properly let off steam as sub optimal as that is for security. What diameter pragmasis do you reccomend? was thinking 11 or 13mm, Also which padlock?

5 bed steading in NE Scotland, we’ve averaged 6-7L/day in the 3 years we’ve been here. You can look at boilerjuice to see what the price fluctuations are like. Building is probably so-so in terms of efficiency, big granite walls but lined rockwool insulation, double glazing throughout. We had a Rayburn when we moved in (no other oven or hob) and promptly replaced it with a regular oil fired condensing boiler and a Honeywell Evohome controller (so we can heat by room). We barely seem to touch the oil in the summer months (keeping an eye on the tank watchman) so I’m not so sure how big a component HW is.

I don’t think anyone is going to give you a hard time on here for buying a Carerra. Voodoo and Boardman are often touted as being great VFM bikes.

As others have said be mindful of what the ceiling is on that bike, 1 1/8th straight steerer and QR is going to limit you to lower end forks (as you note). You might be able to get a tapered fork in there but that’s still another £25 min on a new headset. Going tapered probably wouldn’t be compatible with 9mm QR either (would probably need a new front wheel – another ~£100).

You say spending £250-£300 on upgrading but are you going to get:
    – forks
    – cranks
    – tyres
    – bars
    – dropper

for less than £300? surely if buying new you’re looking at £400 or £500 at least. The second hand bike market is pretty buoyant right now, are you better off looking at what you could sell the current bike for and buying something slightly higher spec instead?

Something like this, Sonder Transmitter. Would probably want to splash another £130 on a dropper on top of that.

I’m not saying the upgrades are pointless and the bike is somehow flawed. I’m sure you’ll have fun on the bike (upgraded or not). Just that with what you’re proposing you’ll potentially end up walking into unexpected costs and for similar money you could end up with something better spec/more future proof.

perfect thanks gecko! I haven’t put the cranks on yet cos I wasn’t happy with how the bb had gone in, will make sure it’s clearing chainstays equally.

Folk on here saying not to use slik because of the Fox spat was another cause for me to hesitate buying. Manitou (the brand I wanted decals for) actually direct you to Slik as a reccommended suplier of aftermarket decals though.

Yeah, I ordered some last month, I think they were here within 2 weeks. No customs charges . Likewise I was a bit wary of ordering from Sweden but all good. Still not found time to fit them mind!

In the ‘further afield’ bin – a jaunt down to Ballater &/or Aboyne in Deeside. Some really great built trails and close to both villages so would be scope to do a few runs, get lunch/coffee/cake then do a few more runs after. Chris Roper (Ride in Peace Adventures) does local guiding.

That video: Jay from the inbetweeners and his mate being dicks on motorbikes.

That’s all I can think of when I watch the vids, he’s basically Jay in accent and character!

They could almost be a very subtle sitcom: “Look at that view, it’s Slough trading estate” 😂

(twinges of The Office, This Country, Inbetweeners, Detectorists – I know STW will burn me for putting detectorists next to inbetweeners!)

I can’t wait for the episode where we get their musings on Brexit!

Thanks for the replies everyone, lots of good points to consider. Yeah Northwind I think you touch on quite a few of my concerns/questions, I’m looking to get a kit with a view to adding to my on the bike toolkit. I’m thinking of getting a wolftooth b-rad mini that I can swap between bikes so the weldtite kit looks like it’d be too bulky. Also would want to use it on multiple bikes so don’t want bar end kits (as cool as they look).

I’m thinking something like this lezyne kit would be a good size. Not sure how important the rasp is though? It doesn’t look very substantial! Also is the knife and rubber solution that you get with the weldtite kit needed?

Yeah the lowers can be shorter due to the reverse arch (I asked the same question when I first got mine out of the box!). Makes it a bit trickier to gauge appropriate sag!

LSC does do wat it should but you have to actually ride the bike not car park squish. If you feel like you need more LSC add a click of HSC.

Thanks poah, will have more of a play!

Also I’ve realised the benefit of the tortoise and the hare on Rockshox forks! tweaking the Mattocs I’m always thinking does the + mean add more damping or remove damping and make rebound faster!

Does anyone’s lsc adjust do anything?

I’ve pondered the exact same thing! I’ve not really felt I’ve needed it yet mind. My experimentation has just been opening/closing and pumping the fork whilst stationary, it doesn’t feel like it gets any slower…

For servicing or setup? I have quite a handy setup A4 sheet that came with the fork, I can’t find the exact same one online. I can send a copy if needed.

Ignore the above, reading the rest of the posts I guess you mean servicing. Interested to know myself, I’d just assumed I’d use the generic guides.

I bought Mattoc Pro 3’s last year for my Scandal build that I finally finished a few weeks ago. I’m really enjoying them, they feel like they’ve bedded in nicely in the last few rides.

(They were bought on the back of big_scot_nanny’s Manitou love in thread)

:D – I can relate to all of the above, especially what honourable george and ta11pau1 wrote! I have been meaning to buy a 4 bar extension for in the garage for months now!

My wife is the polar opposite in that respect, there’s a seemingly none stop stream of packages arriving for her. She finds my deliberations infuriating!

Ironically I’ve found big life decisions fairly easy (proposing, having kids, which house to buy).

I’m definitely regard pouring over maps purely just to have a look as one of lifes great pleasures! OS Maps and big monitors are perfect for it! Even better when you find an old building/monument and wind up down a wiki-hole!

Looking at the pics it looks like the cassette isn’t far enough onto the freehub body, you can still see the splines behind the 10t

    Ignore that!

I’ve got 5mm of end cap showing.

I’ve got a Pro-4 boost with a microspline freehub and XT 12 speed cassette. I thought it’d all gone together fine without doing anything different to a normal HG setup. I’ll try and take a look at lunchtime.

The islabike post(/people damaging things so they can’t be reused) shocked me! I thought bad behaviours were generally down to greed/laze/fear but as others have said, going out of your way to damage things so that others can’t benefit is straight up malicious!

But that bike, maybe the pictures don’t show it clearly enough but that looks like a failure rather than an intentional cut? there doesn’t look to be an obvious plane on either of the tubes. Perhaps too many older siblings/parents playing on it? Or perhaps as others have said maybe there was a defect and its to stop others using it.
