    should be fine

second – penalties for stopping in an ASL should be higher.

third – penalties for cyclist flouting the law should also be greater

fourth – they should employ squads of keen cyclists as policemen – with gopros or similar – to chase down perps – whether car or bike – the footage is real-time fed to a bank of ‘judges’ who pass instant judgement and the bike copper can issue an instant fine or points, or whatever, with minimal overhead and then go on to catch the next perp/idiot driver/idiot ccylist.

I run a 2.1 TB with a 2.25 RR and the TB is a lot smaller than the Ron. Great tyre though.

Time to change the law. No tipper trucks on central London roads between 7am and 7pm.

There is a massive amount of development going on and huge numbers of these trucks rumbling around. For every house in South West London having basement excavation done there are numerous trucks taking away the dirt plus large numbers of big projects. This is new, we didn’t have these numbers before.

I’ve lived and/or worked in central London for 30 years. I know the Bank junction very well, it is not a suitable place for such commercial traffic during the day. The are is almost exclusively office, so having trucks there in the evening /.early morning will not impact residents. Implementing this will be easy as it can be made a condition of planning permission.

    You are kidding right?

So we have vehicles that are inherently dangerous to operate in a busy urban environment, being operated by companies that don’t adhere to basic rules governing insurance, and roadworthyness, being driven by people who don’t adhere to the basic rules of driving them.

and this can also be written as follows:

So we have cyclist riding bikes that are inherently dangerous to operate in a busy urban environment, being ridden by individuals that don’t adhere to basic rules governing insurance, and roadworthyness, being ridden by people who don’t adhere to the basic rules of riding them.

the beauty of the flash charger is that once seated you can carry on pumping or deflating to the desired pressure. Can you do that with the airshot?

Good to know – i recently invested in a Bontrager charger and it too is an excellent bit of kit.

How the person got there is irrelevant, we need to start acknowledging the elephant in the room.

im sorry but its very relevant – me walking into the middle of a road expecting to be safe is not sensible!

very sad news. I know the junction well and whilst a busy section, its equivalent can be found across London in various configurations.

The cycle lane on the inside of that junction. Judging by the positioning of the stationary lorry, my guess is the cyclist went into the cycle lane on the inside. Once the lights went Green the lorry turned left and the cyclist went straight, resulting in a collision and the subsequent head injuries which have resulted in another lost soul.

There are two things to consider:

    1. whether it is appropriate to have cycle lanes approaching junctions. In my view (and i commute via moped and cycle on a regular basis into london) is that all cycle lanes should terminate 50 meters before a junction – to avoid giving the cyclist the impression they are safe / have right of way.

    2. We can all play the blame game / unsuitable infrastructure / banning lorries. Banning lorries during the day into London would have a major consequence to business and livelihoods, at the same time major changes to infrastructure don’t happen over night. The key thing is to educate in safety and be hard on those who break the law / drive dangerously. To me the recent sentences handed down are far too lenient.

I have a new bike coming this week with a carbon post so I’ll be treading carefully.

New bike? What did you go for?

    Also what’s the target weight?

I would not go for di2 if choosing 1×11 – heavier than mechanical. Aso go with an xx1 rear cassette.

Going OT (again…), think we passed you on Saturday Mashie – were you coming down the Tarmac road through Denbies about midday? Someone on an Open hard tail came down!

Yep, that was me – in a mad rush to get back to an angry wife. Very late home as I extended the ride!

So? No-one was forcing them to. They decided that was what worth it to raise the profile of the brand.

but that’s the issue, the brands can throw money at this – like merc, Ferrari, Honda to succeed. I accept this principal as F1 is about technology and pinnacle of Motorsport. Some want it to be a bit like banger / touring cars with artificial gimmicks to make it more exciting.

I have watched f1 since the early 80s, every era has had its up and downs, this one seems to be more in the spot light, not because of what’s going on track side but more to do with politics in the sport.

For me, the sport needs to open it self up to a wider audience, not the middle aged yuppie / rich kid, more the techie kids. As for pit girls, scantily clad, waving flags, that has to go to promote gender equality.

The thing is, everyone is looking back in time misty eyed at big tyres and bucking bronco cars, in 88 McLaren won 15 out of 16 races in an era whic h was fuel and boost restricted – the Honda engine together with Senna and Prost kept things interesting.

In 92, Williams dominated with active suspension – technology ruled so they banned it all. I still think the hastily thought banning of active aids led to the death of two drivers (Roland and Ayrton) as the cars were simply too fast for the drivers to control safely.

In 2000 era Schumacher and Bridgestone dominated the sport – there was a rumour that Bridgestine were providing Ferrari tyres costing 100k each!

Today, the only thing that needs sorting is the tyres, they are frankly rubbish. We need tyres that can go the distance and give the current format 5 years to work. The alternative is to strip the cars back to basics, take the wings off, make them more like road cars – hang on that would be touring cars!

It ain’t broke, Bernie likes us to think it’s broke because it suits his agenda, it undermines Todt, pleases Ferrari and that’s all that he cares about.

On a 8.3kg Chinese Scott Scale copy at the moment (256-sl) and thoroughly lusting after a Pivot Les… mainly for the prettiness but also to dabble in SS.

I looked at the 256 SL frame, its super light and look great.

mashiehood, hypothetical buyer wise, what size is that Open frame?

Medium – im 5’8 with long-ish legs for a shortie so fits well. 90mm stem.

yep, seems odd to spec Chris King on a flat out XC bike. I have an Open O-1.0 and it is a superb bike. However, please don’t buy the frame and put lumps of cast iron on it! Do it justice, you can easily get it to 19lb with everyday parts carefully selected.

That Open, nice, anything to do with this?

Well spotted – that was banked a long time ago. The Open was a bit of a mid-winter project to see what I could build with weenie parts but for the bike to still be usable. Its turned out to be a very special bike.

A look at the carbon Lefty’s hydraulic lockout control and an interesting stem that has no apparent clamping device. Does this mark the return of the internal expanding quill stem? We would not be surprised.

What are they on about – do they have no idea abou the OPI stem thats been around for ages!

a bit of perspective needed – he’s only lost a race, cant win the all. The ultimate prize is the third world championship – and he still leads it and the stronger of the two drivers.
