A straw poll – how many people have tried a 32 front with an 11-36 and found it to be adequate. I have now ran it for 12 months and found it perfect

agree on the turbo era, the mid 80’s was a defining moment for F1 – technology, carbon tubs etc. There was also the emergence of lead designers like John Barnard and Gordon Murray who placed emphasis on design rather than out and out POWER!

I still think F1 today is just as exciting as the yesteryear’s, in my view what attracts the ‘ordinary folk’ to F1 is not just a bunch of cars racing around a closed circuit but also the lifestyle of the very rich and famous + the evolving car designs and the technology that develops in the sport.

Long may it continue – haters will hate (but they still watch it if only to add fuel to their hate)

the trouble with F1 is that despite wanting to hate it and not watch it, i still watch it!

tenfoot – have you watched any F1 this year? There has been a bucketful of overtaking (with KERS and DRS assistance)

on my commute today i saw a girl with over the ears headphones, dark glasses, no helmet, riding a boris bike go inside a tipper lorry which was stationary at lights, indicating to turn left. I pulled to the cab side and asked the driver if he was aware there was a cyclist on his left side. He shook his head, got out of the cab and politely told the cyclist she would have died if he was not made aware of her presence. She stuck two fingers at him and jumped the red light.

the behavior of some of my fellow commuters on Kensington High Street is truly baffling.

i changed from a cannondale flash 29er to a scalpel 29er. 20lb, an XX1/XTR hybrid. Have only ridden it once for various reasons but its an amazing bike.

the last time i rode hardcore downhill, it was with seat down and body armour – loved every minute of it.
99.9% of my riding is not hardcore and thus i rely on a QR to drop me post if i have to.

That said, im tempted to buy a reverb stealth and dropping the saddle does make descending a bit safer and more fun.

Have gone from 2×10 39/26 with a 36 at the back to a 34 XX1 upfront – brilliant. Completed the C2C and numerous rides since converting, don’t miss the 26 ring at all.

after almost three years with the Formula R1’s i finally changed, to Magura MT8.

Two things which annoyed me about the R1’s on my bike. Firstly the rather ‘on off’ feel, with little modulation and secondly the constant rubbing which was made worse by the slightest bit of dirt / mud or water.

So far, the MT8’s have none of these traits. Admittedly they are not as powerful, but power is nothing without control!
