I have an Orange Clockwork 100. 29er, 2017 model, which is neatly in between old school and new school geometry. It will be the xl size, will check later to confirm.

I am about to strip it to sell the frame and some parts as it doesn’t get used much.

I’m 190cm I think (6 feet 4 inches). I want something a little longer so it might be a good fit for you.

    Thanks nogoodknees.

I feared that the Brompton may well still be the one. Looking at the specs noting seems to fold as small.

And yes, second hand prices are strong, but I guess that does mean I will get my money back down the line.

    Thanks Wally.

Hmm…will have a look at the quality and see what bi think.

Had marathons on my old commuter for years and never had a …ahem…issue 😉

We had a 20+ year old combi replaced in November with a Worcester 30i.

It is much better. House is warmer, water is hotter, it uses noticeably less gas.

I’m expecting maybe 25 percent cheaper to run for a better performance.

    We are on lpg.

You want a 12 inch piece of rubber tubing?

    Durrty boy!

    Corn chowder.

Or for a real surprise, pear and watercress is amazing, but a bit more of a summery soup.

I fitted a 32 narrow wide oval ring to my race face triple cranks. I used some of the spacers from CRC to space out the crank bolts. Looks a bit neater than just using shorter bolts.

I went SRAM NX 11 speed but would spend a bit extra next time and go GX 12 speed to get the 50 tooth rear cog.

    I absolutely love it though.

Merlin seem to have some good deals on at the moment. I got my stuff last year from a number of online and lbs as they had different offers on and it saved me about 50 quid.

I had ITB issues a while back causing a painful knee.

Had a (painful) ITB massage by my physio, using her elbow!

Followed by a few weeks of Foam rolling.

    All sorted.

I have found that as I get older, 54 now, I need to do plenty of stretching and rolling just to keep supple and keep the niggles away.

    It’s a cheap Inbred frame!

Hang it on the garage wall if it ha sentimental value, and buy a new cheap frame.

    ;-)

Id recommend you contact MTB batteries. They made me a replacement battery for a troutie light but with a lumicycle connector.

U.K. Made, excellent service and good prices.

Ive played about swapping bits between a set of 26 revelations and some 29er recons.

All seemed interchangeable. Ended up with 150mm 29er revcons and 26 re-
    Lations

    All worked well.

The fork lowers might dictate which damper you can use as the rebound knob on the recons is well recessed, whereas the revs are fully exposed.

    Yep.

6 year old and 18 month old grand kids here for a few days. Plus son and his missis, plus their two mental dogs.

Just about sorted and sneaking off to bed. Was really easy this year, bless ’em.

Now, that thread about having no kids or pets and a nice clean tidy house? That was us until this afternoon. Now looks like someone lobbed a grenade through the window 😄😱

54 in a few weeks time.

    Welcome 😎

You are only an hour from Rhayader. Give us a shout in a few weeks and we can arrange a spin out over this way.

Interesting that a lot of these experiences happen when you are knocking an older house about.

We’ve had a number of experiences when we have been doing old properties up. It seems to disturb something. It then generally settles down when the work is completed.

Enough to make me believe that there are some odd things that we can’t explain. As a result I am open to the concept of ghosts.

I’m not on SRAM 1×11 road, but will be at some point and now I know this is on here.

I’ve listened to a few Revisionist History podcasts. Malcolm Gladwell is a merkin but I don’t find him whiney.

i found the paralysis, pelvis one captivating even though I’m not a big Levi’s or music fan.

I’ll look up some of those suggestions too.

I have some Sealskins Winter Extreme gloves from 6 or so years ago.

they come out when it gets proper cold.

used for at least 4 winters doing a 6:30 am start 25 mile commute Derbyshire in to Nottingham.

never had cold hands and I suffer from Raynauds.

You clearly don’t want or need anything. So don’t bother.

we don’t buy anything for each other. Not even a token thing to open.

we have four generations round for the Chrisrmas “weekend” so there are lots of presents, but no one notices that we haven’t bought each other anything, and it already costs a fortune catering for that lot!

I’ll be looking out for some Smoove or Squirt now then, cheers for the suggestions.

    More good suggestions, thanks.

I’m edging away from Muc Off for sure. I got this one as a spot prize at an event so gave it a go.

I used to just use TF1 Teflon spray lube on the road bikes for that clean non-oily drivetrain.

Might give that a go on the mtb.

ta11pau1 – used to use paraffin for everything back in the day. Not had any for years, but a good shout, will get some in as a general degreaser.

As for a hairdryer Epicyclo – not sure that we even have one. I’m follicly challenged, and my wife is a wild Welsh woman with such a mane that she has neither a hairbrush nor a hair drier :-)

    You might be right Vincieup.

I think I’m gonna stick with ordinary light oil from now on. It’s not too gritty mud where I am now so don’t end up with grinding paste.

Easier to clean off and re-apply.

    Well the results are in.

Hot water, freshly boiled kettle, with good old fairy liquid, seemed to do an admirable job of softening and loosening it.

Finished off with a scrubbing brush, once the water had cooled sufficiently, shifted it nicely.

    Gunk – Nah.

    White Spirit – Nah.

    WD40 – Nah.

    :-)

Ha ha! Probably should have done that really 😀

It does need a bit of a deep clean tbh.

the cassette is now in soak until the morning.

    Thanks Paceman and simons.

I’ve been using silkolene dry and muck off ceramic. Not sure which has left the residue but suspect the silkolene dry.

Will whip the cassette off in a bit and soak it overnight.

Not had chance to try WD40 yet. Will give that a go- not got any gt85.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Without knowing the detail I’d say £2k Max.

Boiler can be had for £1200 ish depending on spec, then labour and bits.

Another benefit of a dropper is for starting off on steep uphill bits.

Drop the saddle a little so you can get your bum on it. You can then get your weight over the rear tyre for grip when you stab the pedal down. Pop it up to climbing height once you are clipped in.

A few of us went to Nant yr Arian for a change. Dodged a few showers around the Summit trail.

stopped half way down Mark of Zorrow for the 11am silence which was cool.

makes a change from the natural trails round here and it’s only 50 minutes drive away.

was surprisingly quiet for a sunday

Will be putting in decent shift around Rhayader tomorrow.

Been nursing a torn medial meniscus and stress fractured tibia the last few weeks, so I expect to feel fat old and slow!

Just revel in the fact that you are keeping up with your mates on your “old” bike.

And being more eco friendly 🤓

Thats what I do on my 8 year old 26er with 10+ year old wheels, and even older tyres!

which goes on a 12 year old Pendle bike rack on my 14 year old (owned from new) Honda!

We went a couple of years ago.

    wont be going again!

The constant wind is the least of how crap it is.

Its full board because they can’t trust the locals near money. You are an easy target when you do leave the hotel as you can be identified by your full board wrist band, be warned.

some of the beach bars were fine, but you will get harassed while walking to them.

The restaurants felt more like being in a school canteen.

you will not be able to get drunk on the free booze, not even a bit tipsy, they keep it that way so people dont get drunk.

this was a Tui one. Can’t remember which one.

we still had a sit in the sun week and a nice rest really, but not somewhere I would return to.
